Chapter 181 - search.

I'd polish and expand it like this while preserving the same pacing, tone, and events:

"Fuck."

That was all Mewtwo muttered.

At almost the exact same moment, Detective Scooby let out the very same curse under his breath.

This man had been nothing more than bait.

And if they were right...

Then their principal suspect was probably already running away.

The realization hit both of them simultaneously.

Without wasting another second, Mewtwo sent a telepathic message directly into the detective's mind.

"I'm sorry... but I have to go alone now. If I stay here any longer, whatever chance we have of catching him will disappear."

Scooby didn't even have time to answer.

The next instant, psychic energy erupted around Mewtwo.

He shot straight into the sky.

To the detective's eyes, it was as if the young hero had transformed into a violet flash of light before completely disappearing into the heavens.

"...Fast..." Scooby muttered to himself, staring upward.

Meanwhile, Mewtwo didn't look back.

The moment he had enough altitude, he activated Agility.

Once.

Then a second time.

His speed exploded.

Until now, while carrying the detective, he had intentionally restrained himself. He had no idea how much acceleration and sudden deceleration Scooby's body could safely endure, so he had flown only somewhat faster than a car. It had also helped conserve stamina over the long trip.

But that restraint was gone.

If the serial killer truly was nearby...

Every second mattered.

Every heartbeat counted.

So Mewtwo stopped holding back.

He accelerated to his maximum cruising speed.

The landscape beneath him immediately became little more than a blur.

Roads stretched into endless gray lines.

Forests melted into green streaks.

Mountains vanished almost as soon as they entered his field of vision.

The trip that had originally taken nearly two hours...

Was reduced to only a handful of minutes.

He never slowed down.

Not once.

Not even slightly.

When the church finally appeared on the horizon, Mewtwo immediately extended his psychic senses far ahead of himself.

His telekinetic perception spread across the entire building.

He wasn't searching for his target first.

He was making sure his entrance wouldn't endanger innocent people.

Only after confirming there was no one directly beneath him...

Did he dive.

A sphere of brilliant psychic energy engulfed his body as he descended almost vertically.

The impact was explosive.

He crashed straight through the church roof.

Wood splintered.

Stone cracked.

Glass shattered.

Yet none of the debris actually fell.

The broken beams, fragments of stone, and shattered pieces of the ceiling froze in midair, suspended by invisible psychic force before they could even touch the floor.

Mewtwo didn't move from the crater he had created.

Instead...

His psychic awareness exploded outward.

It expanded through every hallway.

Every office.

Every room.

Every hidden corner of the church.

Searching.

Listening.

Feeling.

Looking for even the smallest trace of another mind.

...

Nothing.

The entire church was empty.

"Fuck."

This time he said it louder.

There was no one left.

Whoever they had been chasing...

Had already escaped.

With nothing else to do immediately, Mewtwo contacted the authorities.

First the local police.

Then Hero Bureau Central.

More specifically...

Kaina.

He gave a concise report of everything that had happened—the false lead, the driver, Priest Diora's testimony, and the abandoned church.

The moment he finished the call...

He didn't wait for backup.

He immediately began investigating the scene himself.

Mewtwo immediately expanded his psychic senses throughout the entire church.

Nothing.

There wasn't a single presence left.

Even so, he refused to rely only on a superficial scan.

Slowly, he began examining everything in greater detail.

Every corridor.

Every room.

Every piece of furniture.

He paid particular attention to the religious imagery scattered throughout the building, especially the wooden statues and crucifixes.

After all, the suspect's Quirk allowed him to transform people into wooden religious figures.

If he had left one behind...

It could easily have been mistaken for ordinary decoration.

One by one, Mewtwo inspected them with his psychic powers, analyzing their internal structure rather than simply their appearance.

Nothing.

Every single carving was exactly what it appeared to be.

Plain wood.

No hidden victims.

No concealed evidence.

No traces of his target.

Seeing that, Mewtwo silently floated toward the priest's office.

Unlike his dramatic entrance through the ceiling, he now moved with absolute care.

He avoided touching anything.

His feet never even reached the floor.

This room was now the primary crime scene.

Breaking through the roof during the initial assault had been acceptable given the possibility that the suspect had still been inside.

It had been an emergency.

But now...

Every object could potentially become evidence.

Every fingerprint.

Every misplaced document.

Every speck of dust.

As he drifted across the office, his eyes carefully examined the room.

Everything appeared surprisingly organized.

The shelves were neat.

Books stood perfectly aligned.

The desk itself was clean.

Almost...

Too clean.

Then his gaze stopped.

Resting neatly at the center of the desk was a single folder.

It looked as though someone had intentionally placed it there.

On the front, written in elegant handwriting, were only two words.

To Raiden.

Mewtwo's eyes narrowed.

Without touching it, he lifted the folder using telekinesis.

The pages opened by themselves, suspended in the air before him.

He began reading.

First, I want to apologize... and reassure you.

I haven't harmed any of the people you know.

The truth is... I'm not a monster.

I don't punish people who don't deserve it.

The children I worked with here are good children.

They simply grew up under unfortunate circumstances, but they're innocent.

Mewtwo continued reading in complete silence.

The letter went on.

Now... now...

You're probably asking yourself...

Then why are there reports of entire families with children among the victims?

Did they deserve it?

Sadly... yes.

They were beyond redemption.

You see... evil often takes root much earlier than people believe.

Perhaps you don't know this, but psychopaths are born—not entirely made.

Yes, environment matters.

But only to a certain extent.

The children I killed... they were already beyond saving.

If you investigate deeply enough, you'll discover what they truly were.

They hurt animals.

They bullied their classmates.

They stole.

They assaulted others.

Yes... children make mistakes.

I understand that.

But these children enjoyed it.

I'm certain they did.

Their families covered for them instead of correcting them.

They tried to protect them... but they failed to guide them.

So before those children could become something far worse...

I stepped in.

It wasn't an easy decision.

But...

I'm convinced it was the right one.

Mewtwo remained perfectly still.

The letter continued.

Evil cannot be allowed to prevail.

Even if our own hands must become dirty to stop it.

I admire heroes.

That's why I wanted to meet you.

After all, you've already defeated one of the most evil men in Japan.

I admire your conviction.

It's truly remarkable.

However...

I cannot remain here.

I still have work to do.

The final page slowly lowered.

The papers continued floating silently before Mewtwo.

He closed his eyes.

So...

It really was him.

The priest.

The serial killer.

And he was lying.

Mewtwo knew that with absolute certainty.

The evidence contradicted nearly every justification written in that letter.

Among the victims there had been infants.

Babies.

Children too young to even understand the world around them.

Yes, a handful of older children had records of bullying or violent behavior.

That much was true.

But what about their innocent younger siblings?

What about the babies murdered alongside them?

What about the parents whose only crime had been trying to protect their families?

No.

Those arguments weren't convictions born from justice.

They were excuses.

Carefully crafted rationalizations.

Nothing more than the twisted logic of a psychopath trying to convince himself that he was righteous.

"Fuck it... I'm going to find him."

The words escaped Mewtwo's mouth almost instinctively.

Without wasting another second, he expanded his psychic reach once again, this time far beyond the walls of the office. Instead of searching for minds, he focused on the structure itself.

Every wall.

Every beam.

Every empty space hidden beneath the church.

If there was a concealed room, a tunnel, or anything that could help him continue the pursuit...

He was going to find it.

...

And then he did.

There.

Hidden behind one of the walls.

A hollow space.

A secret passage.

Mewtwo immediately shifted his psychic perception, carefully searching for any mechanism that could open it. His telekinesis brushed across shelves, decorations, and wooden panels without disturbing them.

Nearly a minute passed before he found it.

A small concealed button hidden behind part of the bookshelf.

Click.

A deep mechanical sound echoed through the office.

The wall behind the desk slowly slid aside, revealing a narrow passage concealed inside the church.

The moment it opened, Mewtwo contacted Kaina.

"There was a hidden passage beneath the church. I'm following it."

The response came almost immediately.

"Understood. Be careful."

That was all she said.

She probably would have forbidden him from entering alone.

She would have insisted on waiting for backup.

But things had changed.

She trusted him now.

At least when it came to combat situations and immediate danger.

She knew he could handle himself.

Ending the call, Mewtwo floated into the hidden corridor.

The instant he crossed the entrance, he accelerated.

The tunnel stretched endlessly ahead of him.

Its walls were reinforced with solid concrete.

The construction looked professional.

Old.

Stable.

"Looks like he took his time building this..."

Mewtwo frowned.

"But how? He only arrived here recently..."

The thought lingered for only a moment.

This wasn't the time to solve that mystery.

If the killer was still within reach...

He had to catch him first.

Mewtwo increased his speed.

The passage descended deeper and deeper beneath the earth.

Its path twisted constantly, curving left and right like a serpent.

The farther he traveled, the more the tunnel resembled something far larger than a simple escape route.

Then...

He reached something unexpected.

Train tracks.

Or at least tracks for some kind of small industrial cart.

"...A mine?"

The resemblance was striking.

Without slowing down, he followed the rails.

The tunnel continued for what felt like an eternity.

Even flying at full speed, it still took him nearly three minutes to reach the end, mostly because of the tunnel's endless winding turns.

Finally...

The passage ended before a single reinforced door.

Mewtwo already knew what waited beyond it.

His psychic senses had scanned the area ahead.

Nothing.

Only a staircase.

He opened the door and immediately began ascending.

Flight made the climb effortless.

Step after step...

Until daylight finally appeared above him.

At the end of the staircase stood a small wooden cabin.

It was almost completely empty.

A modest kitchen.

A simple table.

Nothing else.

No luggage.

No clothes.

No traces of its owner.

Only...

Another piece of paper.

Placed neatly at the center of the table.

Waiting for him.

Of course.

It was addressed to him.

Mewtwo lifted it with telekinesis and unfolded it.

Sorry.

I've already left.

I know that, in your eyes, I'm a villain.

Perhaps that's true.

But given that you haven't committed any crimes...

I can't allow myself to be captured yet.

I still have a mission to fulfill.

That was all.

Nothing else.

No signature.

No explanation.

Just another message.

Mewtwo slowly lowered the page.

"This bastard..."

It was obvious.

The man was mocking him.

Or perhaps...

Mocking everyone pursuing him.

It fit perfectly with the psychological profile they had built.

He wanted to stay one step ahead.

He wanted them to know that.

Stepping outside the cabin, Mewtwo immediately rose into the sky.

From above, the surroundings became much clearer.

Dense forest stretched in every direction.

Beyond it...

The coastline.

The cabin stood far outside the city, hidden among the trees near the beach.

An ideal escape point.

"...Where did you run?"

Mewtwo muttered while scanning the area below.

Then he noticed it.

Fresh tire tracks.

Only one vehicle had left the clearing recently.

The marks continued toward the nearest road, disappearing in the direction of back to the previous city? really?.

Without hesitation, Mewtwo reported everything to headquarters.

The investigation had now become a nationwide manhunt.

At least now they had something concrete.

They had the suspect's face.

They knew one of his escape routes.

And, most importantly...

They finally had a city where the chase could truly begin.

__

Hello, guys!

First of all, I want to apologize because the updates have been a bit slower lately. Work has been keeping me pretty busy, and on top of that, I've been spending some time designing a few new fics. I just need a little variety from time to time.

Now that I've gained a bit more experience as a writer, I feel like I can create something interesting in other worlds as well.

That said, don't worry—I have absolutely no intention of dropping this story. Not at all. I simply enjoy exploring different ideas, and these new projects will just be side projects while I continue working on this one.

At the moment, I already have the basic framework for three different stories. As usual, each one borrows concepts from other series to make things more interesting, but I always make sure they fit naturally within the world's own logic and power system. I really don't like breaking a setting's internal rules. For example, I wouldn't just throw chakra into One Piece for no reason. Everything is adapted to the world it belongs to so that it feels like it could genuinely exist there.

So, I'd love to hear your opinion. Which world sounds the most appealing to you?

Jujutsu Kaisen

One Piece
