Cherreads

Chapter 162 - date

Both of them chatted for quite a while inside the restaurant, and honestly, the two spent a genuinely good time together.

The atmosphere between them became much lighter after Nejire's sudden confession, and surprisingly, neither of them seemed uncomfortable about it anymore.

If anything—

It felt natural.

At one point, while stirring her coffee absentmindedly, Nejire suddenly tilted her head slightly as if she had just remembered something important.

"Now that I think about it," she exclaimed, "you only modified your clothes to fit your tail, right?"

Raiden blinked.

"Well… yeah," he admitted.

Nejire immediately pointed at him dramatically.

"Then why don't we go buy something actually fitted for your new body?"

The proposal completely caught Raiden off guard.

Still—

Nejire honestly had a point.

After the changes in his body, he had mostly relied on quickly modifying his old clothes with his psychic powers whenever necessary.

It worked, yes.

But it definitely was not the same as properly tailored clothes made by someone who actually knew what they were doing.

So after thinking about it for a moment, Raiden simply nodded.

And the two of them ended up going shopping.

The first place they entered was a fairly generic clothing store.

In this world, fashion was much more varied than in normal society due to the existence of Quirks.

There were entire sections designed for people with mutations or partial transformations.

Extra sleeves.

Adjustable backs.

Openings for tails, wings, extra limbs, horns, and countless other body variations.

And if the modifications required were relatively minor, most stores even adjusted the clothes for free.

Once inside the store, Nejire immediately became energetic again.

She practically disappeared between the aisles while gathering clothes at alarming speed.

"There!" exclaimed Nejire while returning with several pieces in her arms.

There was a hoodie, a long coat, and a couple pairs of pants.

Raiden took the clothes from her and honestly—

The combination actually looked really good.

The hoodie gave him a relaxed and casual appearance, while the coat added a certain seriousness and elegance to the outfit.

It fit surprisingly well with his current appearance.

Especially now that his body looked sharper and more imposing even in human form.

The only problem was obvious.

None of it properly fit his tail.

So after buying the clothes, Raiden went to the modification section of the store.

And indeed—

In less than an hour, everything had been adjusted perfectly for him.

Meanwhile, while the store attendant worked on the clothes, Nejire had taken the opportunity to browse for herself as well.

More specifically—

She had apparently decided to pick a dress.

So by the end of the hour, both of them walked out of the store wearing completely new clothes.

"Nejire," exclaimed Raiden softly.

"Hmm?" responded the girl with a bright smile while turning toward him.

Raiden looked at her quietly for a second.

The dress she had chosen fit her perfectly, elegant without being excessive, and combined with her naturally cheerful expression, she honestly looked stunning.

"You look incredible."

At Raiden's words, Nejire's smile brightened instantly.

"You too," she answered back.

Contrary to her usual bold and energetic self, this response came out slightly shy.

And somehow—

From Raiden's perspective—

That only made her look even cuter.

That thought alone made him smile unconsciously.

And seeing his reaction immediately made Nejire smile too.

"Come," exclaimed Raiden while extending his hand slightly toward her.

"Follow me."

With that, Raiden slowly began to float upward.

One of the advantages of having provisional hero licenses was that they were allowed to use their Quirks publicly under certain conditions.

Nejire quickly followed after him without hesitation as Raiden continued ascending higher into the sky.

Slowly—

The city beneath them started becoming smaller.

And smaller.

And smaller.

The buildings eventually looked like toys.

Then like dots.

Then almost like nothing.

As they continued rising, the air gradually became colder and thinner.

At that point, Raiden decided to transform.

His body shifted smoothly into his Mewtwo form while psychic energy expanded outward.

A translucent barrier formed around both of them.

The temperature at that altitude was becoming dangerous, and the oxygen levels were dropping rapidly.

If they continued without protection, breathing would soon become difficult.

And more importantly—

Raiden could not maintain a barrier this powerful unless he was transformed.

Once both of them were safely inside the psychic barrier, they continued ascending higher and higher.

Until eventually—

Everything below them became unimaginably small.

Even the curvature of the Earth slowly started becoming visible.

At some point, Mewtwo activated Calm Mind to increase the output of his psychic powers and Agility to sharpen his reactions and maintain control at such absurd speeds.

Then—

He gently took Nejire's hand.

And accelerated.

A couple more minutes passed.

And then—

The sight before them became absolutely breathtaking.

Space.

Well—

Almost space.

The sky around them had darkened tremendously, and above the horizon, the sunlight illuminated the curve of the Earth in a way neither of them had ever seen before.

The world beneath them looked endless.

Beautiful.

Fragile.

For a long moment, neither of them spoke.

They simply stared at the sunset above the planet while floating at the edge of outer space.

There, inside the glowing psychic barrier, Mewtwo held Nejire's hand.

And Nejire squeezed his hand tightly in return.

At that moment—

Raiden understood something.

This felt magical.

And because of that…

He also knew it could not last long.

His barrier was already starting to suffer damage at a rapid pace.

Most likely from radiation and the immense environmental pressure surrounding them.

So reluctantly—

They had to descend.

In one smooth movement, Mewtwo spun through the air with Nejire still beside him, and together they began falling slowly back toward Earth.

Their descent remained controlled thanks to Mewtwo's telekinesis, reducing their speed enough to avoid being scorched by the atmosphere as they returned above the clouds.

However—

They did not stop there.

At some point during the descent, both of them suddenly started moving playfully above the clouds themselves.

They flew in sync through the endless white landscape, weaving between the giant masses of vapor while laughing like children discovering something completely new.

As they moved, Mewtwo started using his psychic powers on the clouds around them.

At first it was small things.

Simple shapes.

Waves.

Floating spirals.

But soon enough, he began molding the clouds into entire figures moving across the sky.

At one point, he created a group of giant horses galloping through the heavens beside them, their bodies made entirely of white mist.

Nejire's eyes widened immediately.

And after that—

Mewtwo simply kept going.

More shapes formed around them.

Birds.

Dragons.

Floating castles.

Massive creatures swimming through the clouds as if the sky itself had become an ocean.

Then, wanting to surprise her even more, Mewtwo focused harder and shaped the clouds into a gigantic whale.

The creature was enormous.

More than twice the size of a real whale.

It slowly "swam" through the sky beside them, surrounded by drifting vapor and glowing under the orange light of the sunset.

For a second, Nejire genuinely looked speechless.

Still—

She did not stay behind either.

Almost immediately, she began playing with her own Quirk as well.

The natural energy produced by her Spiral Wave Motion started illuminating the clouds from within, causing the giant figures Mewtwo created to glow softly in shades of blue and gold.

And not only that—

She also made small spirals and sparks of energy dance around the cloud creatures, making them look almost alive.

Soon enough, the entire sky around them transformed.

The clouds became a magical landscape filled with enormous glowing creatures drifting peacefully through the heavens.

At that point, both of them were openly laughing.

Not worrying about villains.

Not worrying about hero work.

Not worrying about expectations.

For once—

They were simply enjoying themselves.

"Hahahaha! I didn't know we could use our powers like this!" exclaimed Nejire between smiles while spinning through the air.

"Me neither! Hahaha—this is incredible!" answered Mewtwo honestly.

And it truly was.

The two of them realized something important in that moment.

Neither of them had ever really tried to use their powers for anything other than fighting.

Training.

Rescuing.

Combat.

Control.

Strength.

That was all their abilities had ever represented to them.

But now—

They were affecting the weather itself.

Creating art across the sky.

Turning the clouds into living fantasies.

And somehow, that realization gave both of them an entirely new perspective on their Quirks.

They continued playing above the clouds for almost an hour.

Only once the sun had completely settled beneath the horizon did the two finally decide to descend back toward Earth.

When they finally returned closer to Earth, the two of them continued flying calmly through the night sky.

The stars had already started becoming visible above them, and the cold wind felt refreshing after everything that had happened during the day.

At some point, Nejire suddenly pointed downward.

"Look."

Below them, hidden between mountains in the distance, there was a lake reflecting the moonlight like a giant mirror.

Even from high above, the place looked beautiful.

Without really needing to discuss it, both of them slowly descended toward it.

By the time they landed, they realized they were already very far away from the city.

Far enough that returning would probably take a while later.

Still—

Neither of them cared much about that right now.

The place they had found was honestly breathtaking.

The lake was pristine and crystal clear, surrounded by a quiet valley covered in grass and trees gently moving with the night wind.

There were no buildings.

No lights.

No noise from civilization.

Only the sound of water, wind, and distant insects hidden among the vegetation.

The moonlight reflected softly across the surface of the lake, making the entire valley feel almost unreal.

When they finally touched the ground, Mewtwo slowly undid his transformation and returned to his human form.

Still—

Even after transforming back—

Neither of them let go of the other's hand.

For a while, they simply walked together around the edge of the lake.

Slowly.

Without hurry.

Sometimes talking.

Sometimes just enjoying the silence.

Nejire spoke about random things at first.

Funny stories from school.

Embarrassing moments during internships.

How Tamaki probably would have died from anxiety if he had ever tried going on a date.

That one actually made Raiden laugh pretty hard.

Meanwhile, Raiden talked more than usual too.

About his powers.

About how strange things had become lately.

About how sometimes he felt scared of how fast he was changing.

And surprisingly—

Talking about those things with Nejire felt easy.

Natural.

She listened seriously whenever he talked about his fears, but at the same time, she always somehow managed to make the atmosphere lighter again immediately after.

Eventually, after wandering around for quite a while, the two sat down beside each other near the shore of the lake.

The grass beneath them was soft, and the cold breeze from the water moved gently around them.

At some point during the silence, their shoulders slowly ended up resting against each other.

Neither moved away.

The atmosphere between them became quiet again.

But not uncomfortable.

Warm.

Peaceful.

The kind of silence where words were unnecessary.

After a while, Nejire turned slightly to look at Raiden.

And Raiden looked back at her.

For a few seconds, neither of them spoke.

There was no teasing now.

No jokes.

No nervous laughter.

Only the sound of the lake beside them.

And naturally—

Almost as if they had been slowly pulled toward each other since the beginning of the day—

They kissed.
