Chapter 462: When You've Got Clout, Things Get Done Easily

Outside the Infected camp, after leaving the guerrillas' area, Steven arrived at an empty stretch of open ground.

Since he had already resolved himself to completely shattering that ominous premonition, it was only natural for him to make every possible preparation.

Even with Yelena and her Yeti Squadron guarding Alina, Steven still felt that something was missing. If he truly wanted to ensure there were no loose ends, then additional measures were necessary.

Fortunately, he did have the right people in mind—and those individuals would probably be more than happy to sell him a favor.

Standing alone in the snowy field, Steven didn't do anything complicated. He simply took Shoggy out of his inventory—the creature was still devouring that chunk of condensed Originium—and let it lazily crawl onto his shoulder. Like a cat, it let out a comfortable purring sound.

After all this time, the portion Steven had previously harvested from its body had fully regenerated. Not only that, Shoggy had grown noticeably larger again. The price for that growth, however, was visible in its half-transparent body—the remaining condensed Originium crystal inside had shrunk from the size of a fist to something no bigger than a jujube pit.

At this rate, it wouldn't take long before it completely absorbed all the energy and essence contained within.

Of course, letting Shoggy out wasn't for its sake—it was merely a way to get in touch with certain people who were usually hard to reach. So Steven didn't let it linger for long. After giving it a bit of fresh air, he returned it to its Pokéball.

Even so, that brief moment was more than enough.

Just as Steven had expected, the snowfield before him changed. It was as if a mass of black clouds surged toward him—pure white snowflakes turned pitch-black the instant they touched the ground, embodying filth and ill omen.

Three men emerged before Steven, appearing as though they had always been there. They wore strange black trench coats, their faces hidden behind respirator-like masks, with peculiar devices strapped to their backs.

There was no mistaking their identity.

The Emperor's Blades.

However, when they realized that the source of the signal they had followed was Steven, all three of them froze for a brief moment. Clearly, this was not what they had expected.

"Relax," Steven said, raising a hand casually. "I just used a fragment from a Collapsal I took down earlier as a signal. Otherwise, tracking you down wouldn't exactly be easy."

With that, he waved at the three oddly dressed Blades, making it clear he had no intention of attacking—or fighting them at all. Only then did he look at them with a friendly smile.

"I know there are bound to be eyes planted around the guerrillas by him, but I really didn't expect there to be as many as three of you."

His gaze swept over them calmly.

"So, tell me, are you standing here as hunters, or as Emperor's Blades?"

The pressure radiating from the three men was immense. It was no wonder Patriot had once said that even he couldn't guarantee a safe retreat if faced with more than three Blades at once.

But Steven didn't seem bothered in the slightest.
