Cherreads

Chapter 4 - Souls That Defy DestinyThe Warring States Era.

An age where children learned how to kill before they learned how to read.

Deep within an ancient forest...

Two boys walked side by side.

"...You're late again."

Madara Uchiha crossed his arms as he leaned against a tree.

Hashirama Senju scratched the back of his head before laughing awkwardly.

"I had to sneak out. Tobirama almost caught me."

"Hmph."

"You'll get yourself killed someday."

Hashirama simply grinned.

"Probably."

Madara rolled his eyes.

"You're hopeless."

The two continued deeper into the forest—their secret place, hidden from the endless conflict between the Senju and the Uchiha.

But today...

Something was different.

The wind had stopped.

No birds sang.

Even the insects had fallen silent.

Hashirama slowly frowned.

"...Madara."

"I know."

Madara's crimson Sharingan spun silently.

His sharp eyes swept across the forest.

Nothing.

No ambush.

No chakra.

And yet...

Every instinct warned him that someone was nearby.

Hashirama placed a hand over his chest.

"...Why..."

"...does my heart feel so calm?"

He couldn't explain it.

It wasn't chakra.

It wasn't relief.

It was as though the entire forest had become peaceful.

As if every tree...

Every flower...

Every living thing...

Was quietly welcoming someone's arrival.

Madara, however, felt the exact opposite.

His muscles tensed.

His breathing became shallow.

His instincts screamed.

Danger.

Not because he sensed killing intent.

But because something beyond his understanding had entered the forest.

"...There."

Hashirama pointed ahead.

Both boys stepped into a small clearing.

And they saw him.

A young man no older than seventeen stood beneath an ancient tree.

Long brown hair rested upon his shoulders.

Strange orange headphones covered his ears.

He wore flowing white robes that gently swayed despite the absence of wind.

His golden eyes remained closed.

Completely motionless.

Completely relaxed.

Yet...

The space around him felt sacred.

Hashirama unconsciously whispered,

"...He's beautiful."

Madara ignored the comment.

His Sharingan locked onto the mysterious young man.

Then...

His vision changed.

The world disappeared.

Instead...

Thousands upon thousands of translucent figures surrounded the young man.

Old warriors.

Children.

Women.

Monks.

Animals.

Countless souls stood quietly behind him.

None looked hostile.

None looked enslaved.

Every one of them looked upon the young man with absolute reverence.

As though they had willingly chosen to follow him.

Madara's pupils shrank.

"...What..."

Then—

A colossal shadow slowly rose behind the sea of spirits.

Its body was wreathed in endless flames.

Its eyes opened.

The Spirit of Fire.

For a single heartbeat...

Its blazing gaze met Madara's.

Madara's breathing stopped.

His Sharingan trembled violently.

The vision shattered.

He instinctively stepped backward.

"...Impossible..."

Hashirama immediately noticed.

"Madara?"

"...Did you see them?"

Madara's voice was unusually hoarse.

"...Who?"

"The spirits..."

Hashirama blinked.

"...Spirits?"

"I only feel..."

He looked at the mysterious young man once more.

"...peace."

Madara slowly clenched his fists.

"...No."

"It wasn't peace."

"My soul..."

"...warned me."

For the first time in his life...

Madara Uchiha experienced fear.

Not fear of death.

Not fear of battle.

But the instinctive reverence of a soul standing before someone whose authority far exceeded its own.

Meanwhile...

The young man finally opened his eyes.

Golden irises calmly rested upon the two boys.

He had known they were there long before they entered the clearing.

The spirits had already told him.

His gaze first settled upon the cheerful boy.

Hashirama.

No...

Not merely Hashirama.

Behind the boy stood an immense spiritual silhouette.

Warm.

Gentle.

Boundless.

It radiated life itself.

An ancient soul.

Then Hao shifted his gaze toward the silent Uchiha.

Another colossal presence stood behind Madara.

Cold.

Proud.

Unyielding.

It carried endless determination.

Two extraordinary souls.

Neither belonged to ordinary humans.

A soft chime echoed within Hao's consciousness.

The Great Spirit Interface

Unknown Spiritual Signatures Detected.

Ancient Soul Fragments Confirmed.

Origin...

Unknown.

Analysis...

Incomplete.

Notice:

These souls have undergone repeated reincarnation over an immeasurable period.

Hao silently dismissed the message.

"I don't need an answer."

"I'll discover it myself."

His lips curved into a faint smile.

"So..."

"This world possesses souls capable of transcending destiny."

Neither Hashirama nor Madara understood those words.

Hashirama tilted his head.

"...What do you mean?"

Hao calmly looked at the two boys.

"One of you carries the soul of someone who wishes to nurture the world."

His eyes shifted toward Madara.

"The other..."

"...carries the soul of one destined to challenge it."

Silence filled the clearing.

Neither boy understood.

Yet both instinctively felt...

The mysterious young man before them wasn't talking about their future.

He was looking directly into their souls.

High above the mortal world...

Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki silently watched everything unfold.

"...He noticed them."

Not their chakra.

Not their bloodline.

Their souls.

A realization slowly dawned upon the Sage of Six Paths.

"The Great Spirit..."

"...truly sees beyond the cycle of reincarnation."

And for the first time in centuries...

Even Hagoromo began to question whether the fate he had long watched over was about to change forever.
