Chapter 109 - Chapter 109: The Legend of the Water Tribe!

"What the hell?"

The young man who hadn't left yet looked at the scene and said indignantly, "What's wrong with this Squirtle?"

"Why does it listen when somebody else says it?"

Natsume glanced at him.

"The other side's Poliwag has the Ability Water Absorb."

"When you first had Squirtle use Water Gun, Squirtle already explained it to you."

"As a Trainer, learning to understand Pokémon is also a required lesson."

Onami listened to Natsume's words and showed a slightly surprised expression.

Because this Poliwag really did have the Ability Water Absorb.

Taori was a Trainer who had only recently started traveling, and his family was fairly well-off.

This time, he had come to the Water Tribe Breeding Center to buy a suitable Water type main battler.

After hearing Natsume's explanation, he recalled Squirtle's earlier actions.

Taori knew Natsume was probably right.

Still, he said stubbornly, "Bro, you really think you're a Gym Leader or something?"

"You say it's Water Absorb, so now it's Water Absorb?"

A staff member suddenly said, "Uh... this Poliwag really does have the Ability Water Absorb."

Taori's face turned red.

"I know that."

"But there was a reason I had it use Water Gun, all right?"

Someone nearby laughed. "Yeah, right. What reason could there be for using Water Gun on a Pokémon with Water Absorb?"

The Ability Water Absorb lets a Pokémon take no damage from Water type moves, and the Pokémon can also restore its stamina from the Water type energy contained within Water type moves.

Taori said angrily, "I just wanted to see if this Squirtle would actually listen to me!"

"What are you all arguing about?"

"If you're really that good, then let's battle... battle... bat..."

As he spoke, he pulled out a Poké Ball.

Just as Taori was about to send out his Pokémon, he suddenly saw a Dragonite with Mudkip on its head slowly fly over to Natsume.

Taori suddenly started stammering.

"To, to...."

"Dragonite?"

Dragonite: Want to battle?

Natsume looked at Dragonite.

"You're done playing already?"

"Dragonite~"

Dragonite let out a cheerful cry.

Natsume looked at the Mudkip on Dragonite's head.

"Looks like you made a new friend."

Mudkip greeted Natsume.

"Mudkip~"

The people around them looked at Natsume's Dragonite in surprise.

"Dragonite?"

"Damn, who is that?"

"Wait, I thought he looked familiar just now. He looks like that Leader Natsume guy who's suddenly gotten really popular in Hokkaido."

Someone took out their phone and compared the photo, then shouted, "It's really him."

Natsume listened to the murmurs around him and looked at Dragonite with a smile.

"Looks like you're more famous than I am, Dragonite."

"Dragonite~"

Dragonite scratched its head.

Natsume patted Dragonite's chubby belly, then said to Taori, "I am a Gym Leader. You wanted a battle?"

Taori opened his mouth, but said nothing else.

A battle?

Against your Dragonite?

Who's supposed to go in?

It can't be me, right?

Taori silently put away his Poké Ball and lowered his head as he pushed through the crowd.

He was gone. Gone.

Natsume didn't pay much attention to this little episode.

"Miss Onami, I want to buy both this Squirtle and the Mudkip on Dragonite's head."

"Please come with me."

Onami led Natsume further inside.

Onami looked at Natsume and asked curiously, "Leader Natsume, how did you tell Poliwag had Water Absorb?"

Natsume picked up the Squirtle following beside him.

"This kid told me."

"Squirtle~"

This Squirtle clearly had quite a good personality.

Natsume thought to himself, "There's already a Bulbasaur in the Farm."

"Now there's a Squirtle too."

"If a Charmander shows up too, then the original Kanto starters will be complete."

But if it's Charmander, it seems there's only one place in the country that has them: Fire Dragon Valley.

Decades ago, the volcano in Fire Dragon Valley erupted, blocking the river.

That formed five connected volcanic pools.

"Next time I go to Towada Lake, I should make a trip to Fire Dragon Valley too."

Natsume held Squirtle as he thought to himself.

Onami looked at Natsume.

"Leader Natsume, you can talk with Pokémon too."

"Too?"

Natsume caught the keyword.

Onami lifted the necklace at her neck and smiled.

"Leader Natsume, have you heard of the Water Tribe?"

Natsume nodded slightly.

"Of course."

"Legend says the Water Tribe are guardians of the Prince of the Sea, Manaphy."

"They're warriors of the sea, blessed with incredible powers."

"So."

As Natsume spoke, his gaze fell on the necklace at Onami's neck.

The pendant hanging above her snow-white chest seemed to flow slowly like a drop of water under Natsume's stare.

"Are you from the Water Tribe?"

Onami nodded.

"That's right."

"My family records say that when Manaphy is about to be born, it will come to the Water Tribe."

"We'll escort it back to the sea and find the Temple of the Sea."

As she spoke, Onami lowered the pendant in her hand.

"Of course, these are all just legends."

"In truth, it's been a long time since anyone last spotted Manaphy."

"I wonder if I'll ever have the chance in my lifetime to see the legendary Prince of the Sea."

Natsume said, "Then if there ever comes a day when you really need help carrying out a family duty like that, Miss Onami, I'd be glad to lend a hand."

Onami smiled at his words.

"Sure."

"If that day ever comes, I'll definitely have to ask Leader Natsume for help."

As Onami chatted with Natsume, they arrived at the rest area inside the base.

Pokémon sold from the Breeding Center all had to be registered.

After Natsume paid and signed, he officially received Squirtle and Mudkip from the Water Tribe base.

"Leader Natsume, would you like to stay here for the night?"

After the handover was complete, Onami invited Natsume.

"Our hotel facilities here are actually pretty good."

Natsume politely declined.

"The Farm has things to take care of tomorrow, so I won't impose today."

"If I get the chance next time, I'll definitely come and try it out."

After saying that, Natsume climbed onto Dragonite's back.

"Dragonite~"

Dragonite waved at Onami.

"Alright, then goodbye, Leader Natsume."

"Goodbye."

"Dragonite~"

Dragonite carried Natsume into the night sky.

Off the coast near the Water Tribe base.

Flying through the air, Natsume could still hear the waves crashing against the shore.

The sea breeze drifted through the air, carrying a cool chill and the damp salty scent unique to the ocean.

In the distance, the lighthouse and the stars overhead guided the ships drifting across the sea.

The ocean was always full of mystery, always drawing people in.

"Nice view."

Natsume muttered, patting Dragonite's body.

"Let's go, Dragonite."

"Let's head home."

"Dragonite~"

.....

Takamagahara - Farm.

"That should be just about everything cleaned up."

Misaki helped Lopunny and the others put away the kitchen supplies.

"Lopunny, what do you all do when Natsume isn't around?"

"Lopunny~"

Gardevoir helped translate.

"Lopunny says, of course, we wait for Natsume to come back."

"Lopunny~"

Lopunny nodded.

"Dragonite~"

Dragonite's voice rang out from the night sky.

"Lopunny~"

The Lopunny, hearing the voice, immediately ran happily outside.

Dragonite landed in front of the cottage.

Just as Natsume jumped down from Dragonite's back, he saw two Lopunny bouncing over toward him.

"Lopunny~"

Natsume looked at the Lopunny with a smile and opened his arms.

"I'm home."

"Lopunny~"

The Lopunny threw themselves into Natsume's arms.

Their soft tongues licked Natsume's cheeks.

Natsume picked up the two Lopunny and looked at Misaki, who had come out after them.

"Has Kiko already left?"

Misaki said, "Flygon already took her back."

Natsume nodded slightly.

"Alright."

"By the way, let me introduce you to two new friends."

"Come on out, Squirtle, Mudkip."

As Natsume spoke, the two Poké Balls on him floated out.

"Squirtle~"

As soon as Squirtle came out of the Poké Ball, it cheerfully greeted everyone.

"Mudkip."

Mudkip looked much shyer, quietly standing in place.

"Bulbasaur?"

Bulbasaur looked curiously at Squirtle and Mudkip.

Natsume said to Bulbasaur, "Bulbasaur, can I ask you to do something?"

"Bulbasaur."

Bulbasaur nodded.

"Bulbasaur, take Squirtle and Mudkip for a walk around the Farm and help them get familiar with the place."

"Bulbasaur~"

Bulbasaur greeted Squirtle and Mudkip, then motioned for them to follow.

"Squirtle."

Squirtle and Mudkip looked at Natsume.

Natsume said, "Go ahead. On my Farm, you can live freely."

"So first, get familiar with the place where you'll be living from now on."

"Squirtle~"

Squirtle answered, then followed Bulbasaur with Mudkip toward the bamboo grove behind the cottage.

"Lopunny~"

Lopunny said it wanted to watch a movie.

Natsume smiled.

"Sure."

"Lopunny~"

Lopunny was delighted.

Natsume hugged Lopunny and said to Misaki and Gardevoir, "Let's go in."

Inside the cottage.

"Lopunny~"

Natsume squeezed in on the sofa with everyone.

The two Lopunny sat in Natsume's lap.

Holding them, Natsume felt like he was hugging two soft twin-tailed lolis.

Lopunny's ears were very long, long enough to even cover their perky butts.

But because their ears were too sensitive, you still had to be careful with how much force you used when handling them.

Misaki looked a little tired.

After all, she had been busy all day.

She yawned and leaned against Natsume's shoulder.

Gardevoir leaned against Natsume's other shoulder, nervously watching the movie playing on screen.

It was a horror movie.

The scary scenes inside made the Lopunny cry out from time to time, their hands clutching Natsume's clothes tightly.

"Don't be scared, don't be scared."

Natsume comforted them softly.

"Everything in the movie is fake."

"Real Ghost type Pokémon... uh..."

Natsume suddenly realized that real Ghost type Pokémon really could, in fact, suck in a person's life force like in the movies.

This world really did have a Ghost World.

"Lopunny?"

"Cough, cough."

Natsume said, "I mean, if it's the Ghost type Pokémon in our Farm, they'd definitely get along nicely with everyone too."

Misaki asked curiously, "Is Natsume planning to adopt Ghost type Pokémon on the Farm?"

"There are a lot of Pokémon I want to keep."

Natsume smiled.

"But if we're talking about Ghost type Pokémon, I think watching a ghost movie while holding a big purple fatty would be pretty funny."

Misaki sat up.

"The big purple fatty is Gengar, right?"

"It really is cute."

"What about you? What kind of Ghost type Pokémon do you like?"

Misaki gathered her hair to one side and thought for a moment.

"I don't think I have any particular favorite Ghost type Pokémon."

"But if I had to pick one, a Drifblim would probably be pretty interesting."

"Drifblim?"

"Yes."

"Drifblim can carry people on its back."

"Since it drifts along with the wind, it makes you feel like there's a lot to look forward to."

Natsume smiled at Misaki's words.

"Looks like you've got quite the adventurous streak."

The night grew deeper and deeper.

The light inside the cottage was still on.

The Farm gradually grew quiet.

The beginning was indeed pretty scary.

But later on, once the main character uncovered the truth, it gradually turned into a emotional drama.

The Lopunny were getting a little sleepy watching it.

They yawned, then curled up on the sofa and fell into a deep sleep.

Natsume carried Misaki to the bed.

They undressed and spent the night together.

...

"Pidgeotto."

Pidgeotto and Pidgey were up very early.

The sky had only just begun to brighten.

Birdsong already rang out across the Farm.

Natsume sat up in bed and looked out the window helplessly.

"These guys really do get up early."

Natsume had been woken by Pidgeotto and Pidgey's cries.

But Misaki had gotten up even earlier.

Natsume looked at Misaki, who had just come out of the bathroom.

"Why are you up so early too?"

Misaki tied up her hair.

"Because I need to milk the Miltank."

"The food on the Farm is really rich, so the Miltank produce a lot of milk."

"At this hour, the Miltank should already be starting to feel uncomfortable."

Natsume gave a thumbs-up.

"As expected of a kid who grew up on a ranch."

Misaki smiled faintly.

"Then I'll head down first."

"Alright."

Ding-dong~

Farm Story sent a notification.

[Your Eevee (Level 30), with the help of the Ice Rock, has evolved into Glaceon.]

[The special energy within the Ice Rock has increased Eevee's HP by 15–17.]

Natsume looked at the phone notification in surprise.

"It evolved?"

Natsume put on his clothes, then used Teleport.

Inside the underground ice cave.

"Glaceon~"

Glaceon looked happily at the newly evolved Glaceon.

There were a lot of Eevee on the Farm.

However, not every Eevee wanted to evolve into Glaceon.

Rotom had told the Eevee about all eight of Eevee's evolutionary paths.

So the Eevee weren't in a hurry to evolve right away, which was why they usually didn't come down here.

Glaceon was very happy to see a companion willing to evolve into the same type.

"Glaceon?"

The Glaceon in front of it reverted back into Eevee.

"Eevee?"

Eevee was confused.

"Eevee."

Eevee explained its own special condition to it.

While they were talking, Natsume's figure suddenly appeared.

Natsume looked at the current Eevee.

[Name: Eevee]

[Type: Normal]

[Level: 30]

[Ability: Adaptability]

[Individual Values: HP 17, Attack 31, Defense 31, pecial Attack 31, Special Defense 31, peed 31]

[Moves: Tackle, Tail Whip, Growl, Helping Hand, Covet, Baby-Doll Eyes, Swift.]

[Egg Move: Wish]

[Potential: Champion]

(Note: This is a special Eevee whose genes can't stay stable for long. It has even more evolutionary possibilities.)

(Note: Current evolvable attributes: Water, Fire, Electric, Ice.)

Natsume crouched down and looked at Eevee.

"Eevee, how do you feel?"

"Eevee."

Eevee felt pretty good, and it had also gained new power.

"I see."

Natsume looked at Eevee and thought, "Looks like as long as it has the evolution item, Eevee can keep evolving."

"If its Friendship gets raised, Eevee should also be able to freely switch between Espeon and Umbreon."

"Once it evolves, I'll give it the corresponding type treasure too."

Thinking about this Eevee's future, Natsume couldn't help but say, "Eevee, how about I call you Arcevee-bu from now on?"

"Eevee?"

Eevee was confused.
