Doing his best to avoid going into detail, Issei shyly explained the incident between him and Sona. He was brief and vague, voiding out the key moment of Sona fully coming onto him and having him flee after she attempted to escalate her seductive flirtations.
He knew that Rias and Sona each wanted him in their peerage, and Ddraig had made it clear that they each could pull devilish tactics to win him over. As much as he trusted Koneko, she was still apart of Rias's faction and the full truth being brought to life could sprout tensions he wished to avoid being the center of.
Caught in a tough spot thanks to his mouth, it was all his dull-witted brain could remedy it by omitting that crucial piece of information. His inability to lie effectively made it seem like he was hiding something - not lost on the young devil at all as her sharp eyes chipped away at his facade. With some interrogating, and maybe some roughhousing, the girl could likely peel the truth out of him.
But it seemed there was no need for that. Though she felt she didn't know everything, Koneko had heard enough of the story to know she must inform Rias. She had already done so earlier that day when the three of them had arrived at school and she had noticed Sona's odd behavior directed at the pervert. That had only been enough to warrant a small tip off to her master. It wasn't a big deal to Koneko, but she had orders to inform the redhead about anything involving Issei whether minor or large.
This development being brought to life opened up a whole new can of worms. It was much more problematic than she anticipated. Not even Rias would've expected this, or she would've given her stricter orders to adhere to.
During one of their conversations awhile back, Koneko recalled Rias making a passing remark that she and the other King had argued over Issei. It was more of a subtle exchange that had laid Rias's intent clear for Sona to back off, letting her feelings known while abstaining from anything too severe. As they parted, Rias got the impression that it wasn't over between them, and that was definitely the case now.
Rias had to know about this, preferably as soon as possible. If the other King was making moves, than she either had to make her own, or interfere so that Sona left Issei alone. As much as Koneko hated getting involved like this, she had to. She was a loyal servant, and she had already pushed it before by not informing Rias immediately about their excursion to save Asia. Maybe it was due to Issei's influence, but she had been acting more disobedient as of late, and had yet to make up for it. This would be a good start.
She could already hear how pissed off Rias would be.
"Y-you okay there, Koneko?" Issei asked anxiously as he stared down at her. It was then the white-haired girl realized she was fuming from her nostrils in silent rage. As she thought over her duties while his story sank in, her anger had slowly bubbled over like a steaming pot barely keeping its lid. She hadn't even realized she had dropped her lollipop awhile ago.
The battle between King's was now getting personal, and Sona's actions had pissed her off just as they would Rias, if not more.
Lady Sitri was apparently a dangerous, no good slut, Koneko realized.
With a quiet sigh that sounded more like a rumbling growl, the young devil answered, "I'm fine. It's cool."
Her words were casual, but they had only made him grow more uneasy. Issei might've been dumb, but he could tell she was anything but cool. She was practically on fire, and he didn't want any part of the blustering inferno sparking within her, fearing she might backhand him high enough to see Heaven's gates.
She probably hated the fact he'd openly admitted to spanking it because of Sona and had gotten pissed, he'd figured, oblivious to what really sparked her anger.
Awkwardly shuffling on his feet, Issei watched her scowl twitch. To the untrained eye, she was still overtly angry, but he could tell she was finally beginning to cool off as she folded her arms. "This is getting annoying. If you're done, I'm going to go throw up now."
She made to leave, but Issei quickly stopped her. "Actually Koneko, that wasn't what I wanted to talk about... I called you out here for a different reason," he called back to why he wanted to step out here with her. His soul had taken a beating, but he had satisfied her own suspicions enough to get to his own questions.
Her response was immediate. "I'm not helping you next time, sick pervert."
"Huh?" He was startled before denying vehemently, "No, that's not what I was gonna ask!"
"I'm not putting on glasses and roleplaying for you either," she glared, arms coming up over her chest defensively as she recoiled in revulsion.
"That's not- well, actually that's kinda hot-" Issei jumped away as she raised up a threatening fist. "Hey, you're the one putting ideas in my head!"
Snorting derisively, Koneko looked down at the discarded lollipop on the ground with regret, saddened that the sweet blue candy had been soiled and was attracting ants. Hands finding her hips, she stared up at the older teen with attitude, daring him to say something stupid and encourage a butt-whooping. "Just spill it."
"Err... how are you?" His delivery was even more awkward than he felt.
She deadpanned, her fingers twitching on her hips as they itched to bop him. "What?"
"I mean- if there's anything you wanna open up about, I'm always willing to lend an ear." He forced himself to smile welcoming, but the tension in his muscles practically bruised his cheekbones.
Disturbed by his random show of supposed kindness, her skin prickled as she glared and turned. "Suck it."
"Wha-? Hey-" It was already too late. The short-haired girl had already entered the house and boldly shut the door on him. His shoulders deflated pathetically. "Damn..."
That whole conversation had been butchered because of his stupid mouth. He should have just been up front, rather than let her ask those questions about what happened back in school. Koneko's mood was defensive and suspicious, which made it impossible to seek out how she was feeling internally.
Her text message was still fresh on his mind.
Taking Asia home. Don't wait up. You don't need me anymore.
She had made it sound like he didn't want her around or something, and then that Quest Alert had appeared. He might've not been able to make any progress right now, but he would find his opportunity and get to the bottom of it.
"You really know how to reel them in..." A deep, sarcastic voice came from his left hand.
"Shut up, man."
