I had left Dove in the villa.
It was hard. Fuck, it was hard. He was standing in our bedroom doorway with Piquito asleep in her stupid little embroidered bed, his hair messy from the humidity, his t-shirt sticking to his back, looking up at me with those big eyes like 'don't go'. And I had to go, because my phone was buzzing nonstop in my pocket.

Pai: Traz o Daniel. [Bring Daniel.]
Daniel was already waiting for me at the end of the stone path, leaning against one of the palm trees with a cigarette he wasn't actually smoking, just holding. He looked at me and sighed.
"Ele tá puto?" [Is he pissed?] I asked.
"Ele tá no modo Pai." [He's in Dad mode.] Daniel said, and we both knew what that meant.
