Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 - Leaving the Forest

Nathan wandered the cave, occasionally killing a couple of packs of rats. He's already feeling the strong effects of no longer having mana drain on shadow movement. His DPS skyrocketed! The breaks between fighting significantly decreased, with him having a larger mana pool for Dash. Controlling the darkness element seemed to take a little less focus and a little less mana to cast. Even though his status screen isn't showing it, he could feel the difference.

'Maybe because it's only one or two percent, so it's of no value to show it, or there are hidden effects to certain traits or skills! I wish I could continue training, but the rats aren't giving me any more stats.'

Nathan finally decided to leave the cave and head towards civilization! He quickly found the cave's exit and started running. On the way, he fought more rabbits and a couple of packs of wolves. He even encountered a very pretty flower he planned to pick, hoping it would sell for a lot. Unfortunately for him, the flower was carnivorous, and he almost lost his life for his mistake. He averted the situation by swiftly summoning the twin darkness daggers and splitting the flower in half.

"I should really name y'all. Hmm, I think Dark and Darker!"

"NOOOOOOOOO!" Nott appeared in front of him, screaming her head off. "Those daggers already have names, and they are sacred. The one on your left is Mistilteinn, and the one on your right is Carnwennan. Never reveal these daggers unless you know you are the only one walking away alive." Nathan looked down in defeat as he heard what Nott had to say. "What's wrong? If I told anyone else they were getting these daggers, they would've revered me as a god."

"What are those weird-ass names? Like, c'mon, they could've been cool at least. Mistilteinn?! Do I kiss someone under it? And what is Carnwennan even related to?!"

Nott seemed to steam with anger as she stared down Nathan. He instinctively backed away in fear. Even though the contract is in place, he doesn't know if that stops her from hurting him. "The dagger in your left hand, Mistilteinn, was used to kill a god. The dagger in your left, Carnwennan, was used by the legendary hero King Arthur."

Nathan didn't get the confidence to speak till Nott visibly calmed down. "Didn't King Arthur have the Holy Sword Excalibur?"

Nott looked at him suspiciously, "How would you know that when you said you lived very remotely and knew nothing of the outside world?"

Nathan very quickly, while rubbing his head, said, "There was once a wandering traveler who passed by and told us a story about King Arthur. We would use it as a bedtime story for the kids because it always sounded too magical." Nott just nodded as they started running again, Nathan could start to see the edge. He hurriedly started using his Shadow Movement and Dash to reach it faster and escape the Forest. Nathan took a deep breath and screamed. Releasing all his frustration and stress since he entered this world. He then closed his eyes and sat down, letting himself relax a little bit. "So Nott, how far away is the town?"

Nott, finally catching up, returned to her full form and sat next to Nathan. "We need to continue our direction a little more, and we will hit a road. From there, we'll follow the road east until we arrive in the town. It's been hundreds of years since I've visited. I wonder if it still looks the same." Nathan blankly stared at her. "Did you say hundreds of years?! Why are you worrying about it looking the same? You should be wondering if it's still even there!" Nathan lost all hope of finding the town, and something dawned on him. "How long were you imprisoned in that cave?"

Nott tensed up in worry as she slowly swiveled her head toward Nathan. "Uhm, since I was stuck in the cave, I couldn't have really kept time, so I don't really know." She smiled sheepishly and hoped Nathan would let it go with that simple excuse. He replied with a stern stare, which made Nott sigh. "Fine! A few millennia. You happy now?!"

Nathan glowed red with anger. "So my definition of a couple and your definition of a couple are clearly different. A couple to me is only two, yours is THOUSANDS! That town is probably a relic at this point; the roads over the continent have probably changed. You don't have a clue where we are going, do you?! You were gonna have me find a road and follow it till we reach a random town or city!" Nott tried to escape Nathan's beratment by going to his soulspace with the daggers, but he quickly figured out how to pull her out instead of the daggers. She appeared right back in front of him and immediately started running away. Nathan quickly gave chase. "Come back here, you little shit! I'm gonna beat you senseless!"

Nail looked very serious with his chin resting on his hands. He was sitting in his usual chair watching the TV. This time, it wasn't watching Nathan; it was frozen on a single moment in Nott and Nathan's conversation. On his pair of daggers, Nail couldn't get a good look at them back then because the moment Nathan pulled them out, his TV seemed to power off without Nail willing it to. By the time Nail had it back on, Nathan had already put them back up.

"Nathan, I can see why the System needs to protect you. I don't think I'm the only one who has plans for you. Oh, how I wish I could follow alongside you to be a part of the epic." Nail leaned back in his chair, looking up into the white abyss with a devilish smile on his face. "Maybe one day or even soon, depends on that entity's plans."
