The prize vault of the Imperial Dungeon Games is a secured stores room on the fifth sublevel, nine metres by four. It has a steel door, a ledger desk, a lighting circuit off the building's ordinary supply, plus four rows of shelving bolted to the wall.
Nobody who has read the account since has been able to get past the shelving. A room built to hold an object of that kind is worse than a chamber built to honour it, since the shelving means somebody counted it every quarter.
Vell came down the service stair at the fourth hour of round four with the relay shut behind him. He went alone, which the round conditions permit below the fourth sublevel, plus which the standings clerk priced within the hour.
