Chapter 457 - The People We Used To Be

Gemini walked cautiously through the forest filled with monsters and men.

He did not wish to follow Chase and Equan into the main spectacle, but something had compelled him...

It was as if a greater force had subtly influenced Gemini's direction, and instead of tending to his traps... He felt that a far greater aid could come from this one chance.

"Gemini?" Phillip turned his head, asking as a big fight took place about fifty meters away from the two of them.

Gemini's hands trembled as his warhammer tightened in his grip and his eyes narrowed on a person he had long since known before the events of arriving in Seh Jenah.

"You don't know how to use that, not that you actually think you can... Can you?" Phillip tilted his head, raising an eyebrow and reminding Gemini that he had once known this corrupted man quite well.

"Well? Can you?" Phillip outstretched his arms, a subtle metallic jingling following from the several artifacts carried on his person.

Gemini could not respond, as the man in front of him was only a shell of what he had once been.

"How did you get here?" Gemini asked, his eyes now betraying his unshaken facial expression.

Phillip sighed, planting the pommel of his spear in the ground and leaning upon it.

"The Grand Paladin... I met him on the expedition... He... He saved me, and found a liking to my charm, and in return for using my rare collection of artifacts to expand his riches... He gave me the crown of this kingdom..." He shrugged.

"You were like an older brother to me..." Gemini whispered, looking down at his shaky hands he realized the scale of this madness.

The dots had begun to connect themselves.

"The cult? You wish to follow them? Have you truly gone mad?"

"Mad? I think I've become quite the opposite actually! Think about it Gemini?! Why would I follow such a crude group of people without reason? Why would I take the place of the true king and wear his skin!? Surely you do not admit my merits are falsely?"

Gemini felt hopeless, he felt that this conversation alone had proved that they had long since lost this battle...

"You died on that expedition..." Gemini eventually announced after a long silence only held opposite by the battles that both Equan and Chase had engaged in.

"Finnian... Kill him." Phillip decided, ensnaring Gemini in a trap made of golden strings...

...

Azure hovered for more than a moment, his white hair fluttering with violent gusts of wind from the force of his attack.

But a drum had begun to resound throughout the lands of Vallmora... For a moment Azure had thought that it was merely his heart... But...

No...

"Destro... You do not want to do this..." He whispered, turning his sharp blue gaze as a flash of crimson streaked behind him and hurled him into the sky...

Destro laughed with misery, hurling nearly twenty unique spears of destruction at the opposing lesser god.

Explosions riddled the sky, blinding Gabriel's already shrouded vision from below.

And yet he braced, grabbing Michael out of the waters and straggling to pull him free of the violent tides.

A waterspout had formed nearby, and Azure barely caught them in the corner of his eyes, letting out a roar as he lifted the waterspout from the sea, bending and turning its force towards an ascending Destro... A crimson fury written on the surface of his blackened eyes...

His skin had charred and been littered with bright golden cracks...

"Destro..." Azure whispered, unleashing an onslaught of impossible attacks- Forces of nature upon his once-junior...

...

Destro shook violently... He gazed down at his shattered hands, feeling the torrent of the mighty waters crashing into him, sending him hurling into the continent and demolishing three mile long trail through a swamp...

...

"Hey Destro! Look! It's Lesser Lord Azure!" Valentine pointed with glee, her pink eyes shimmering with admiration.

Sure enough, it was the Sea's guardian who strolled across the marble walkways.

The sun kissed his skin like the god that he was, as his white robe glistened with aquatic gemstones and his two pairs of arms rested aimlessly at his sides.

His four eyes were that of monoliths to the younger generation of gods... For each bared a corner of the world, that stood directly within his jurisdiction...

Destro let out a pained cry, clawing himself out of the crater his body had formed.

"SENIOR!" He screamed with nostalgic glee.

The cracks along his skin had gotten worse... Showing the proof of this battle... While also showing that this battle will have no proof of having existed...

It was all so horrifying to the young lesser god tasked with guarding the mighty weapon that had returned to its rightful owner.

"For what am I to do when faced with an impossible task...?" Destro asked, as to who he was asking...

"More Heres... Fall upon Vallmora... Fall upon the world... Allow me the grace of a single glance, the essence of a single touch... Let it be both my birthplace and my grave... For I was once a human... And will die one by your undoing! MOTHER! GRACE ME ONE LAST TIME WITH THE ESSENCE OF DESTRUCTION!" Destro cried out in pleas, outstretching his arms and allowing the full gaze of a Greater One...

Azure shook in horror... His gaze eyeing up above as golden layers of existence had begun to unravel, dripping and oozing down onto the land as a planet-sized monstrosity had chosen to make its appearance...

A single battle between two mediocre forces...

Had become the demise of an entire continent...
