Chapter 46 - Chapter Fourty Five: Placing the Blame (Part two)

That beast crushed me for the rest of the god damned night, making me relive every pain it could, multiple fucking times.

You know those dreams you have, where your running down a hallway but can never seem to get to the end of it as a scary monster is slowly yet surely getting closer to you?

Yeah well, no matter how hard I tried to escape the fucking ass, constantly attacking me and flooding my mind with every fuck up I had ever done even if it wasn't even my fault, I couldn't escape.

I woke up with a headache, crust in my eyes and a crick in the back that just refused to go away.

It was nearing the afternoon.

Walking into Allen's kitchen, I found a note on the table, I didn't bother reading it.

It was snowing outside.

But I wasn't going to make enough Yul to afford the stuff for a new house just by laying around.

But, then again…

The direbear pelt clothes are pretty much ruined, and I already know how much going out during a storm sucks in only sleeping garments.

I could cast a line of mana string to use as threading for the pelt, at least till I get to Olivai's tailor shop in town, which might be pretty quick if I used the sled?

But then the sled is also damaged beyond repair, and I did leave it uncovered and in the elements for the whole of last night…

Damn.

Do I- ok, so I do have enough Yul for some winter resistant clothes, lucky me, but-

Gah! I gotta just do something, or else I'll just be getting nowhere, and be leeching off Allen even more then I already am.

In the end I just went with the mana string plan, and bolted to the tailor.

After a somewhat shocked reaction from Olivai, I explained the situation to her, and she whipped up some clothes for me.

Of course I had to fight her about keeping it simple, sturdy and warm, but in the end I was left with a very good- if expensive for my budget- outfit.

Finally back in clothes that didn't require constant upkeep, and were actually comfortable in the deep chill of winter, was certainly a relief.

What wasn't as much of one, however, was that creeping feeling in the back of my spine, like I was being watched.

It had been a while, it usually only happens when I'm afraid, or tired, I'd rather not go to bed again though, considering.

Of course, what I was referring to was the ambient feeling I sometimes get, where my sense of whether someone is watching me, just kind of pings -for lack of a better term- for literally no reason.

I typically ignore it.

But I had just recently endured some pretty nasty stuff, so, before I could understand that feeling as a misfire, I whirled around.

As my head caught up with my reaction, I was fully expecting to see a wall, but what I really wasn't expecting, was to s-

As i looked at the slightly dusty wall of Ms. Olivai's shop, I didn't see anything abnormal, so I turned away.

What?

Wait, what?

Before I could think another thought, a wave of exhaustion hit me, and disrupted the thought.

Oh, I'm not feeling well.

The walk back to Allen's house was short and unremarkable.

The kitchen was clean, nothing on the counters as I walked past to my room.

My room, wait but…?

Flopping onto the bed, I fell asleep nearly immediately.
