Chapter 758: Obtaining the Intention Demon Heart
Deep within Ten Thousand Demons Abyss, above a bottomless black sea of demonic energy.
Lin Langtian gazed solemnly at the pitch-black demonic sea. Though its surface lay calm, he could clearly sense the raging violence hidden beneath that stillness.
No one knew what terrifying things might be lurking in the lightless depths below.
For this venture into Ten Thousand Demons Abyss, Lin Langtian had declined Jiang Yinlan's offer to accompany him. With the demonic sea so rampant, he had many hidden cards he could play, but if he had to protect her as well, it would be far less convenient.
His body flickered and shot out in a streak of light, diving straight into the dark sea. A demonic spirit barrier blossomed around him, shielding him on all sides.
Splash.
A muted splash rang out across the vast, black waters as Lin Langtian pierced through the surface and vanished into the depths, as if swallowed by a colossal mouth of darkness.
Hiss, hiss, hiss!
The countless demonic pythons coiled above the water's surface reacted like they had just spotted an intruder. Their icy gazes locked onto Lin Langtian, tongues flickering as they lunged at him from all directions.
Even with his confidence, the demonic spirit barrier around him rippled violently under the bombardment.
Blackness filled his vision, and his spiritual sense was heavily suppressed by the dense corruption all around.
Finding the remnant heart of an ancient Intention Demon expert in such a place was like trying to fish a needle from the ocean.
Still, he had already come this far. No matter how difficult it might be, he had to try.
With that thought in mind, Lin Langtian pressed deeper.
Normally, the corpse of an Intention Demon expert would have long since broken down, but there were always exceptions. If a heart remained, it would most likely lie where the demonic energy was thickest.
Hiss, hiss, hiss!
Demonic pythons lunged at him from all directions. Lin Langtian streaked through the dark waters, the demonic spirit barrier shining faintly—the only light in the pitch-black depths.
As he descended further, the pythons grew stronger, forcing him to steadily slow his pace.
Yet despite the time that passed, he still sensed no trace of an Intention Demon heart.
Frowning, Lin Langtian eased back his speed.
It was just as he had suspected—searching this endless abyss for a single heart was a nearly impossible task. No wonder Ten Thousand Demons Gate had failed after so many years.
"This abyss was formed from the bodies of countless Intention Demon experts after they fell," Aunt Ling's voice sounded in his mind. "Some were even Earth Sovereigns. The deeper you go, the more terrifying the corruption will become. Eventually, even you may not be able to endure it."
Lin Langtian nodded slightly. In this boundless, oppressive sea, blindly searching was pointless. He could spend years here and still come up empty.
But what better method was there?
"These demonic pythons are interfering with our senses," Aunt Ling went on. "We can't properly scout the area at all. Unless we can somehow block out their interference, this search will remain almost impossible."
It was more a passing comment than a real suggestion. The pythons were extremely aggressive and rejected all foreign energy. With Lin Langtian's current strength, trying to suppress them all was unrealistic.
His brows knit together. She was right—if he wanted to find the heart, he needed to use the pythons as intermediaries.
But how could creatures driven purely by violent instinct possibly obey him?
Seeing him deep in thought, Aunt Ling fell silent. She had no better ideas herself.
"I'll try using the demonic fetus," Lin Langtian said at last.
The instant he spoke, the demonic spirit barrier faded away. As the pythons struck, the demonic fetus within his body erupted, unleashing a pure and terrifying wave of evil power. His flesh rapidly transformed, pitch-black light flooding over him until he resembled a demonic god.
The moment that dark radiance exploded from him, every charging python froze as if yanked to a stop.
Their scarlet eyes locked onto him. The previous cold malice vanished, replaced by a very human-like fear and reverence.
The tightly packed swarm of pythons retreated like a receding tide, withdrawing from him in all directions. In moments, a hundred-meter circle around Lin Langtian was completely empty—a vast pocket of stillness in the middle of the demonic sea.
Watching them scatter, Lin Langtian raised a brow.
Individually, the pythons might not have reached the Sovereign level, but with so many of them, even a Fifth-Grade Sovereign would have struggled.
Their sudden submission gave him a new understanding of the demonic fetus's power—and raised fresh questions.
He had shaped the demonic fetus using an Otherworldly Demon King's as a base. By rights, the Otherworldly Demons were merely a minor clan among the extraterritorial races and should not command such awe.
Which meant that the true source of this oppressive aura might be the Golden Spirit Mirror.
That artifact was very likely tied to the extraterritorial races in ways he still didn't understand.
Shaking his head, Lin Langtian set the thought aside and steadied his mind.
He carefully spread his will outward, reaching for the countless pythons lurking in the dark sea.
A strange ripple flowed out from the demonic fetus within him.
Wave after wave, it spread through the waters, and an astonishing scene unfolded—every python that felt his presence began to tremble with fear.
It seemed to them that he could decide their life or death with a single thought.
But he did not intend to harm them.
Instead, he began to use the larger ones as conduits, attaching strands of his consciousness to them to search the demonic sea at an incredible pace.
Closing his eyes once more, Lin Langtian sent his will through countless pythons, fanning outward in all directions.
Endless images flickered through his mind, but for a long time, there was only darkness—no sign of anything unusual.
He didn't grow impatient.
Condensing his will, he continued to probe the depths, carefully sifting through every tiny disturbance in search of his target.
The minutes and hours slipped by.
Days followed, one after another.
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
Throughout that time, Lin Langtian remained as still as stone, surrounded by the motionless sea.
At last, his expression shifted. A spark of excitement touched his face.
In the stream of impressions, he had finally sensed something different.
Somewhere out there, in a certain direction, even the pythons did not dare approach, as if something there inspired pure terror.
Bang!
Just as he fixed his attention on that strange region, a ghostly shriek suddenly echoed through his mind.
His body jolted, his brows snapping together in pain as every strand of his extended consciousness shattered at once.
But in that final instant before his awareness broke, he had caught a glimpse—of a single, pitch-black heart pulsing faintly in the darkness.
His eyes flew open, a flicker of joy crossing his features.
He had found the Intention Demon Heart at last.
Scanning his surroundings to confirm his direction, Lin Langtian shot forward like a streak of light through the black sea.
Everywhere he passed, the frenzied pythons scattered in terror, opening a clear path before him.
After three hours of travel, he finally came to a halt, staring solemnly ahead.
Before him lay an area of absolute darkness.
Within that shadow, a faint, grayish light flickered in and out of existence.
The light seemed to hold nothing at all, yet Lin Langtian's heart clenched at the oppressive aura seeping from within it.
The Intention Demon Heart was there—he was certain of it.
It had clearly developed some measure of awareness over the years, and after sensing his probing will, it had retreated into hiding.
As he pondered how to force it out, Lin Langtian's pupils suddenly tightened.
The air twisted within the dim region, and he saw a colossal black serpent—nearly a thousand meters long—coiled in the shadows, its emotionless eyes fixed coldly on him.
Hiss…
It slowly flicked its tongue, emitting a strange sound like a death god's lullaby.
Lin Langtian frowned slightly at the sight, but when his gaze rose to the serpent's forehead, where a black heart pulsed faintly, his pulse quickened.
That was the Intention Demon Heart.
The giant demonic serpent coiled in the gloom, its body wreathed in waves of corrupt energy, its icy eyes enough to chill the blood.
Unlike the mindless pythons that moved on pure instinct, this creature was being driven by the Intention Demon Heart. Its gaze held a beast's cunning rather than true intelligence.
"This thing's strength is at least on par with a Fourth-Grade Sovereign," Aunt Ling murmured. "Fortunately, it's just a shell without real sentience. You still have a chance."
Lin Langtian nodded.
Though the serpent was terrifying, there was no true light in its eyes—only animalistic treachery.
Compared to a genuine Fourth-Grade Sovereign, it was far less dangerous.
With his current Half-Step Third-Grade power, facing such an opponent would be difficult, but not hopeless. And after coming this far, he could not allow himself to leave empty-handed.
Hiss!
The giant serpent suddenly raised its head, maw yawning wide.
What poured out was not a roar, but a barrage of corrosive venom, each drop packed with lethal toxicity.
The venom shot toward Lin Langtian like a storm of black arrows, so dense it resembled a rain of steel.
His power flared. Black light burst from his body, and a towering demonic figure appeared—his Myriad Phenomena Demonic Body.
The avatar's massive hand rose and opened. One of the black demonic drums behind it flew into its palm.
The drum spun rapidly, becoming a devouring vortex that swallowed the screaming torrent of venom whole.
Boom!
He had barely dispersed the first wave when a massive tail suddenly whipped down from above, moving as fast as lightning toward the avatar's crown.
The Ice Drum rushed forward, its freezing aura spreading out to form a thick, gleaming shield of frost.
Bang!
The serpent's tail slammed into the icy barrier, releasing a titanic force that blasted the Myriad Phenomena Demonic Body backward.
The eight drums spun once more, absorbing the impact and steadying the giant form.
Hiss!
The Intention Demon Heart had clearly marked him as an enemy now.
Venom poured from its fanged maw again and again, each wave stronger than the last, battering him in a relentless assault.
Under that ferocious pressure, Lin Langtian found himself forced into a purely defensive stance. For a time, it even looked as though he was being driven back.
"Langtian, this won't work," Aunt Ling warned. "You can't beat it like this. You need to seal it."
Seal it?
Lin Langtian's mind flashed to the Golden Spirit Mirror within his body.
If there was anything suited for this, it was that mysterious artifact—even Aunt Ling could not see through it.
Having decided, he wasted no time.
Dodging between attacks, he brought his hands together, weaving a strange, intricate seal.
Hum.
From the depths of his Sovereign Sea, a streak of black-gold light shot out from the vast demonic ocean, twisting space itself as it emerged in front of him.
He jabbed a finger forward.
The black-gold radiance flared, rising into the air and taking shape as an ancient, mysterious mirror with a dark frame edged in gold.
Lin Langtian drew a deep breath, then poured his demonic energy into it without reservation.
The mirror expanded rapidly.
With a sweep of its aura, it streaked past and hung above the massive serpent, its surface tilting until it faced directly downward.
Hiss, hiss!
The serpent let out an agitated screech, its body writhing violently as a pillar of black-gold light shot from the mirror.
Under that beam, its colossal frame slowly rose from the demonic sea, drawn inexorably upward.
The movement looked sluggish, but there was no resisting it.
Relief flickered across Lin Langtian's face.
He shifted his seals once more, and moments later, the giant serpent was completely drawn into the Golden Spirit Mirror.
