Chapter 54 - What if Uncle J

The others were curious till I explained everything. They relaxed and I stared as they packed up and left. I stayed as the other left. I saw drones coming and I asked the headmistress if she approved this invasion of privacy. She called the governor and he gave permission to shoot it down. The groundskeeper happily shot it down with a menacing laugh. I was not impressed. I walked back to the dormitory and wondered what Molly was up to. They suspended her after she was caught sneaking into the headmistress's office. Her father was warned. He promised that she will behave properly. I was not convinced. Thankfully neither was she. So she asked security to watch Molly when possible. I had to be careful or I would be exposed too. The others agreed to keep the fun to a minimum. But I still needed to practice so I can help those in need. I went to the library to read a book. Uncle J called to remind me to be careful. He asked me to stay away from the city for a while.

I had to find a way to learn how to use my abilities. Whatever they may be. So I explained that I am staying with a friend during the holidays. He agreed as long as I call him daily so he knows I am safe. If he feels like I am in danger he will send security to take me home to the Citadel. He knew how lonely I was. He was happy with the girls. He decided they should stay with me for the holidays since he was sure trouble was brewing. I asked them if they were interested in a fortress for the holidays away from military harassment. They wanted to agree but they missed their family and Uncle J made it happen. He sent a convoy to take me to his palace. We saw the checkpoints that started from the edge of the city towards the other side where the Citadel resided. The driver gave them a document. They asked him to keep going. The driver didn't budge until the soldier in the checkpoint mention the licence plate and the document to the other checkpoints. When they saw us they opened the path to let us pass without searching.

Uncle J was waiting by the door. The servants were smiling too. I bowed to show my respect and I went upstairs. Uncle J gave me a hug before he kindly welcomed me to his humble abode. We went upstairs Uncle J would join us for dinner. He was happy to see me smile. When it was time to go back to school. The soldiers were informed beforehand the licence plate number so they let us pass without checking anything. They weren't very happy. But they kept their mouths shut. I saw Shaw staring at the manifest and frowning but I was happy. We made it back without any problems. The problem arise when people were demanded to come along as observers. I knew I was cooked. So I told uncle J about the constant harassment from the army. The surprise hosing events. The constant requests to abscond the school as a military base. He made a few phone calls. Then the army came without an observer to check on us one last time. They checked us once and walked away.

The general asked the headmistress to note down the names of the ones leaving the school. She said no. She will check them for bites but she is not noting them down. The old man was told to leave the school alone. His request to get the school as a military fortress was denied. I was sure that they will blow up the wall to let the zombies in. I made the mistake of telling this to Uncle J. He was furious when he heard about the drone. He wasn't pleased about the possibility of zombies attacking us either. He sent a helicopter to collect me. He got me a tutor to homeschool me. He let me call mom everyday so she won't worry. I behave obediently so he was happy. He apologised for taking me away from my friends. He believes that I will find better ones or I will see them when it is safer. I grinned as he left for his meetings. He was so focused. I was sure he won't come for the next hour.

I walked till I found a room filled with medical equipment. I grabbed a few bags of blood. I didn't see any surveillance equipment so I knew I was ok. I walked back to my room and sank my teeth into them and drank all of it. The first blood bag was donated by a paramedic. He had a lot to teach me regarding first aid and saving lives in general. The next was mom's blood donation. She had a rough life till dad came. I learned how to use police equipment. The next one was the mayor's. I learned how he has been embezzling money. I learned all the safe places in the city. The bomb shelters all over the city and how to operate them too. I destroyed the blood bags and went to the garden to play. Uncle J came and asked me to stay away from the medical room. The inside may not have cameras but the outside does. I promised to behave and he took me to a cultural show. I was introduced to Hawaiians. I thought they were coolest. I thanked uncle J for taking me. He drove me home and asked me why I took the blood bags. He promised not to tell anyone.

I promised to tell him when we got home. He grinned, "Come on. We are in the car. There is nobody. I am not going to snitch on you. Did you find a supernatural one? Was the blood bags for them?" I took a deep breath and asked him to tint the window. He did so without batting an eyelash. I explained, "The doctor was done with their tests. I heard them tell mom that I am going to die if this treatment didn't work. I was depressed when I saw a raven haired man in a fur coat talk about a universal cure. He gave it to a nurse and told him hide it. I waited till it was safe and stole it. I used it and within a day it reversed my condition. But I changed into the supernatural. I drink blood once every eight days. I am sorry I didn't tell you. I swear I hurt anyone." He asked me to prove it. I changed my look and his eyes grew wide. He drove us and asked me to change back.

We came indoors and he followed me to my room. He gave me a silver necklace. I held it without pain. He wished me goodnight and left. The next day he took me outside at noon. He was grinning ear to ear as he escorted me back in. I was scared. He promised me to keep me a secret. I had nothing to worry about. He went upstairs and waited till my lessons were over. He then summoned me to his private lab where I had to do a lot of tests. I had to use the treadmill and he kept raising the speed. I passed the test without flinching. He took me to the gym where a punching bag was waiting. He made me hit it as hard as possible. I hit it and he whistled loudly. He was getting happier with each test. Finally I asked him if I could go to the bathroom. He was curious but he let me. After I was done he asked me if I was hungry. I agreed and he asked the butler to bring us lunch. I ate Spaghetti Bolognese, fried chicken and chocolate cake.

Then Uncle J asked me how long I can stay without eating. I explained that I have never tested that. He grinned as he took out a timer. I asked permission to go back to my tutor. He was explaining about Algebra. He grinned as he allowed it. I sat down and finished the lesson. As he left I sat down to do yoga. Then I went for a run. Uncle J sat down with a glass of hot cocoa. I took seven laps and called it quits. He whined like a kid. He requested that I do seven more laps. I politely asked him not to treat me like an experiment. I am feeling uncomfortable. He was kind enough to regard my feelings. We went inside and I took a shower. He took me to the gym and asked me to keep hitting the punching bag till I got bored. He joked, "I could take you to the washing machine." I blushed red as I punched the bag. I kept going till I felt it was enough.

I explained that I am not a violent person. I only get overactive when mom is hurt. Other than that I am docile. He raised an eyebrow. He asked me if I really didn't feel the urge to be violent. I nod my head and he smiled. I asked him if he remembers me being violent. He explained, "I was told that once you changed you become mindless beast. But you are calm, warm and friendly. You don't have the urge to hurt anyone. You are obedient. You are not interested in pushing the limits. You just want to understand yourself so you could blend in?" I nodded to agree. He took a moment before he wished me goodnight. He was grinning ear to ear as I went upstairs. He came to check on me and he was shocked to see that I no longer required sleep. He sat down to stare. I finally asked him for food and he picked up the timer, "Wow! Thirteen hours and twenty five minutes. I am impressed." He asked the butler to bring me dinner. It was a raw steak. I shook my head, "I don't eat raw food. I think I am going to puke"

He waved his hand and the butler came with a blood bag. I just stared from a second before turning away. Uncle J was amused," Humour me" I explained, "I can drink once every eight days. I drank three blood bags. I am not interested any for the next eight days." He raised an eyebrow. He was curious, "How did you managed to do this?" I lowered my head, "I managed it because I didn't want to hurt people I love. I chose the medicine so I could be like everyone else. I was imprisoned in that sick body. I had no friends and I was told I am going to die. Once the change happened I heard the heartbeats of everyone in this building. I appreciated the goodness you have done Uncle J. I didn't want to pay you with back with murder. You are the closest thing I have to a father." He tilted his head with consideration. His smile grew wider. I asked him what prank he was going to pull.

He raised his hand and promised not to expose me. I am safe. He wants to know how the blood bag and syringes fixed me. He asked me to call mom as always. I called mom. She explained, "Sweetie! I am on stakeout. So I will call you later." I wished her luck when there was a knock on her window. She lowered it and I heard a crackling sound like a taser. I yelled at the phone, "Mom! Mom! Please be ok. Mom!" I was hyperventilating when I heard a man answered, "I am sorry but mommy can't answer right now. She is busy. " I warned him, "Touch her and I will hurt you." He hung up and I walked the window. Uncle J came and placed his hand on my shoulder. I was hyperventilating. I extended my senses and I found her without echolocation. I sensed her being dragged into a van. The men were taking her so they can hurt her. Instincts took over. I jumped out the window. I was levitating for a second before I got a bead on them. I flew to the van before they managed to start the engine.

I yanked the door. The kidnapper yelled in fear as I grabbed mom and flew away. I came back a second later. I laid mom down and pressed my ear against her chest. I heard a steady heartbeat. Uncle asked me if everything was ok. I sighed, "Mommy is fine" he asked me if I had done anything to the men who hurt mom. I shrugged, "I didn't think it was necessary to hurt them. They didn't even get to start the engine. I yank the door and brought her here. No security camera in the area will catch it. I was too fast." He grinned, "Interesting." He was like a child with a new toy. I explained, "I am tired. I would like to stay with mom till she wakes up. I hope you're satisfied." Uncle was trying to find the words. He sat down and waited till mom woke up. He came up with a cover story and he took her to the guestroom. I followed her since I was still on high alert. Uncle was amused with my possessiveness. The next morning mom left for work and I extended my senses to make sure she was ok. Uncle J was curious but I had lessons so his curiousity will have to wait till dinner.
