Lu Chengran looked at Liang Wei and Ma Shun, and Tang Li Yue saw the difficulty in his eyes.
He had killed before. His men had killed before. But those deaths belonged to operations, criminals, enemies who had crossed lines written in blood long before the trigger was pulled.
These two were not high-profile criminals. They were weak men.
Greedy and cowardly men coddled by the peace of their former world.
Dangerous because of weakness, not power.
That made killing them uglier. Tang Li Yue clicked her tongue.
"Do not look so constipated," she said softly.
Lu Chengran glanced at her.
She continued, "If you cannot kill them, then do not. But do not pretend sparing them is harmless. Mercy always has a cost. The question is who's going to pay for it."
His gaze deepened.
Lu Chengran asked, "And what would you do?"
Tang Li Yue smiled.
"Me?"
Her eyes moved to Liang Wei and Ma Shun.
They both trembled.
"I would kill them."
