Kenneth observed the checkpoint. "That's only the other road," he commented after a minute.
Claude followed his gaze. Beyond the barricades, the empty city continued. He scanned the fence as far as his sight could reach. Of course, watchtowers were built. Just like the articles said, the city was indeed heavily guarded.
"We've seen enough here," Claude stated calmly as he whirled around toward the parked car.
Kenneth raised an eyebrow as he turned to follow. "I thought you said you'd do it."
Claude replied, "Not here."
They could not afford to make their presence memorable. If they planned to infiltrate the city later, attracting the attention of the military during their first visit would be unnecessary.
So, the two left the checkpoint behind. They returned to the vehicle and continued driving, this time following the road along the outer edge of the perimeter.
