"Allen, stop it..." I mumbled as I reached his side. The green shields flickered like a dying lamp, reflecting the state of the ability user. It terrified me.
I quickly set Mory down and knelt beside Allen. We weren't affected by Claude's poison mist because of him. Even as he struggled to catch his breath and fell to the floor, he was still protecting us.
I held his hand and squeezed it tightly. "Hang in there. I'll find Etienne quickly and—"
"Don't...bother..." Allen squeezed my hand in return.
I looked at his arm. Now that I was closer, I saw his skin was blackened, not from ashes but from the dark energy within him. His pupils were dilated, and the edges of his green irises were darkened too.
"He...knew...so he stopped...it..." he said, his voice raspy and breathing uneven.
