Though she was calmly asleep now, something told White she would not remain in that state for long before she began convulsing again.

They needed the Penoly flowers if they wanted any chance of her survival at all and couldn't afford to wait until the snowstorm thawed.

That birthed the question of...what to do?

'You can choose to leave. None of this has to have anything to do with you.'

The thought occurred to White.

Indeed, he could leave them alone, the old woman and her granddaughter.

They had somehow been doing just fine before his arrival.

Perhaps they still could, and even if they didn't, whatever happened in the end would have nothing to do with him.

But...that felt wrong.

She had invited him into her home when he was freezing from the cold.

She had every right not to even allow him in simply based on how he looked, yet she had helped him, allowing him by the fireside and even brewing him a cup of coffee.
