The dark took Almond last, the same quiet way it had taken the other three, and when it let him see again he stood in the same small grey room, five tiles glowing at chest height.

He didn't need to weigh it long. Throne of Grimlord's Blade had been his first real weapon-deck, the one that had carried every Grimblade he'd ever forged, and it had also been the exact deck Vherim the Unbound had nearly beaten by refusing to hold one shape long enough for Almond's reading to land.
"Throne," he said, and touched the tile.

The tile crumbled to grey dust, and Almond felt the small, strange absence of the first true weapon he'd ever built for himself, gone now on purpose, for the sake of something sharper.
