The light rapidly grew brighter and paler, and in the blink of an eye, it vanished into the air.
But Barty Crouch Jr knew that the spell hadn't truly disappeared. Like the blazing fire of the sun, the searing stream of flame surged forward silently. The door, the walls, the giant serpent, and the figure clutching a bundle—all were swiftly carbonized, reduced to ashes, and then vanished in just a few seconds.
Only the baby Voldemort in the bundle lasted two seconds longer. He let out a heart-wrenching scream as thick smoke spewed from his deformed features, forming a massive, agonized face howling in the air—only to be instantly devoured by the fiery stream.
"No—"
Barty Crouch Jr let out a piercing scream at the same time, and actually forced open a gap in the cloak that was restraining him.
In unbearable agony, he roared, "Aaaah—You bastard! I'm going to kill you! I will kill you!!!"
Amid his furious howls, the cloak that had nearly crushed him suddenly loosened and struck toward Wade like an enraged python.
The firebird, Mikael, suddenly flew out and instantly grew larger, crashing into the cloak and sending it flying. Though Mikael restrained its flames, it still left scorched black marks on the cloak.
As the cloak separated, its blade-like edge was also drawn from Barty Crouch Jr's thigh. The hot blood rushing through his veins was no longer blocked—it sprayed out at once.
The man roared and tried to retaliate, but collapsed to his knees under the unbearable strain. Wade immediately knocked the wand from his hand and stomped it into splinters.
The cloak and the firebird clashed with loud bangs, fighting all the way from inside the room to outside. If Mikael hadn't been trying to avoid destroying the cloak and was only using its physical form to battle, it would've incinerated this Cloak long ago.
Wade glanced over but didn't order Mikael to get serious.
Barty Crouch Jr opened his mouth wide, but his throat was still convulsing from the previous choking. He gasped hoarsely and sporadically, and then finally managed to lift his head only to see the wand pointed right at his forehead.
A dangerous red glow faintly flickered at the wand's tip.
It was that very light that had reduced his master to ash.
Blood dripped steadily from the man's body onto the floor.
Wade's cloak was originally made of metallic threads. When Barty Crouch Jr struggled against it, not only were his neck and thigh injured, his whole body was covered in wounds of all sizes—not to mention the trauma to his internal organs from being crushed.
Yet this man, covered in injuries, seemed completely numb to the pain. He stared into the cold, emotionless eyes of "Harry Potter" and finally realized something.
Barty Crouch Jr swallowed with difficulty several times before croaking out in a hoarse voice, "You're not... not Harry Potter... Who... who are you really…"
Wade blinked and responded with a question instead: "That's your final words?"
Barty Crouch Jr let out a raspy laugh. "You think… you've won? You think it's over? No… The Dark Lord will never die!"
Before he finished speaking, he suddenly slammed his palm on the floor. The floorboards of the room deformed and exploded with a thunderous roar.
As Wade instinctively stepped back, Barty Crouch Jr seized the opportunity to roll over and grab the old kettle that had brought them here. In an instant, he vanished from where he'd been.
Wade remained on guard. A few seconds later, the cloak that had been fiercely clashing midair with the firebird suddenly halted and was smashed into the ground by Mikael.
"Wait! Wait! What's going on?!" the cloak screamed in agony. "Help! Master! Mikael's committing fratricide! You—are you trying to get rid of me, master's right-hand cloak, just because you can't stand me?!"
The firebird abruptly halted its pouncing stance, and hovered above the cloak with its head tilted, scrutinizing it for a moment. Then, it raised a wing and gave the cloak's hood a slap.
"Ah! How could you slap the face? Even though I don't have a face, my hood is so fragile…"
The cloak cried out with exaggerated indignation, then started groaning in exaggerated pain, as if Mikael had gravely injured it.
Wade's strength suddenly gave out. He sat straight down on the floor and then lay back completely.
With a soft "pfft", a small red glow spurted from the tip of his wand—a tiny ball of fire emerged, barely larger than the fireballs Nobeta used to sneeze out when she was a child.
Mikael had already returned to Wade's side. Curious, it looked at the little fireball and gently tapped it with its beak. The fireball gave a soft "pop" and was instantly extinguished.
Mikael: "…"
It stared seriously at the spot where the fireball had vanished, then pawed at it a couple of times with its claws, as if trying to dig it out from under the floorboards.
The cloak slowly drifted back into the room, and whined in a small, aggrieved voice: "Master… Mikael hit me just now…"
"You were hit with a Confundus Charm by that guy and mistook us for enemies."
Wade offered a simple explanation, and then pulled two pieces of chocolate from his pocket, unwrapping them messily and shoving them into his mouth. After lying down for a while longer, he finally began to feel his strength returning.
During that time, he noticed the world in front of him becoming distorted and blurry. Knowing the Polyjuice Potion was wearing off, he took off his glasses and stuffed them back into his pocket—his vision returned to normal.
"Let's go." Wade called the cloak and the firebird back onto himself and said, "With all this commotion, the Ministry of Magic will probably send someone soon. We need to return to the camp quickly."
Mikael chirped twice.
"I know. That guy went back to the camp too."
Wade said coolly, "But right now, what's most important to him is healing his injuries—and then going to search for Voldemort, who's turned into a wandering soul again—not picking fights with others. Besides…"
Wade tapped his own robes with his wand, and their style and color subtly changed.
Wade said, "He got beaten up by Brown, who's associated with the Alliance. What does that have to do with Wade Grey, a student of Hogwarts?"
Mikael tilted its head, and its round eyes seemed to say, "Isn't this all you?"
—Does it really have nothing to do with you?
The cloak really wanted to retort, but considering the mistake it had just made, it cut itself off mid-thought and turned the response into a weird gurgling noise.
Wade put the two little guys away, glanced at the area scorched by the Flame God spell, but didn't bother checking the aftermath, and Apparated away from the spot.
Assuming there were still other subordinates Voldemort had gathered—or dangerous magical creatures—charging into them in his current state would be risky.
He simply left a message for Delaine, asking him to send someone to investigate later, and quickly returned to the camp.
The chaos wasn't entirely over, but most of the cursed leprechauns and Veela had been brought under control. The previously panicked wizards had mostly found safe places, and the camp was now very quiet—only a few smoldering tents still released faint trails of smoke.
Wade let out a breath, found a secluded yet open spot, reopened the wardrobe space, and tapped the bell on top.
Before long, the boys and girls all came out from inside.
"Merlin—" Ron stared at the empty camp in shock, eyes wide as he asked, "Are we the only living people left here?"
"Don't talk nonsense," Ginny rolled her eyes at him and stood on tiptoe to ask, "Where did Bill and the others go?"
"It's over?" Michael asked, while Ryan silently supported Wade and said, "You look exhausted. What happened?"
"Kreacher! Kreacher!" Harry called urgently, "Let's set the tent back up!"
Soon, the tent was once again standing in the camp. Wade lay comfortably on the sofa, resting.
Kreacher brought him roasted meat and hot chocolate. Padma handed him a slice of cake, while Hermione flipped through books, looking for information on why magical creatures had suddenly gone berserk.
Fred, Michael, Harry, and the others kept watch at the door and windows, chatting while staying alert in case the monsters attacked again.
When Lupin returned, he lifted the curtain and was surprised to see such a calm, cozy scene. He asked in astonishment, "You didn't hide in the forest? Wait—didn't you hear all the commotion outside?"
Everyone looked at one another, pretending to be completely confused and innocent, and asked, "Outside? Weren't the celebrations still going on?"
Lupin: "…"
