Chapter 808 - Chapter 808, Minister of State

Chapter 808, Minister of State

Wu Heng had a sudden idea. Before the other party could speak, he waved his hand behind him. The curtain on the carriage was pulled open, revealing several bags of coins.

The commander's expression softened at the sight of money. He waved a hand, and the soldiers behind him quickly came to collect the money.

After confirming it was correct, the commander no longer scrutinized him.

He said indifferently, "Well done. Keep it up. The Grand Commander said that if you do well, the South District will be handed over to you too."

Wu Heng nodded. "Thank you, Grand Commander, and thank you, Commander, for your promotion."

The commander frowned slightly. "Where'd you learn to talk like that? Doesn't suit you."

"Heard it from a bard."

"Go back. Do your job well."

"Understood." Wu Heng gestured, and the gang members regrouped and started dispersing.

...…

They returned to the gang's headquarters.

Wu Heng addressed a few of the gang members, "You all heard what the Commander said. If we do well, the South District will be ours too. With more manpower, you'll all be the core members—more money, less work."

Their eyes gleamed with fervor. "Don't worry, Boss. We'll do a good job."

"Go on, back to your business. Be more disciplined lately, don't cause trouble. Drop those bad habits."

"Yes, Boss," they responded and scattered.

Wu Heng returned to his room and removed his mask.

Silently, he waited.

After noon, Benny returned first.

"Wu Heng, I found the Minister of State. Level 13 Professional. She's a member of the Secret Cult."

Level 13?

She gets 40% of the gang's profit cut—more than the Grand Commander's 30%.

Only level 13?

"Let me see!" Wu Heng said.

Benny nodded and dove into his body, sharing the recent memory.

After the gang members left...

Around noon, someone came to collect the money. Benny followed and entered a mansion.

Inside, she saw a woman with silver-white hair, adorned with a pearl necklace and dressed lavishly.

The money bags were handed over and taken in by the woman.

She remained at her desk, twirling a gold ring—marked with the Secret Cult insignia.

Benny had been surprised at the sight and flew back immediately.

Memory share ended.

Wu Heng released Benny.

Glenda asked, "She's with the Secret Cult?"

"Wearing the Secret Cult's ring. Judging by her appearance, she's likely a member," Wu Heng said.

Benny added, "She wears it openly. Everyone in the mansion probably knows."

"Looks like the Secret Cult's not content playing merchants. They've begun occupying key roles," Glenda remarked.

"Not surprising. They've invested time and money supporting the Second Prince—they want power in return," Wu Heng said.

"Whatever deal the Secret Cult made with the Second Prince isn't our concern." Glenda glanced over with a sly smile. "Wu Heng, what's your next move?"

"What else? Bring her in and ask the corpse!" Wu Heng replied.

Glenda nodded approvingly. "I thought the same. Dragging this out helps neither us nor Wen Mansa."

"We move tonight."

Both Glenda and Benny nodded.

...…

At dusk, Xiaoxiao returned from outside.

Surprised, she said, "Sister Benny's back? I thought I'd beat you!"

"Got useful intel, so I came back quicker," Benny said.

Wu Heng looked at Xiaoxiao. "Did you find anything?"

"No. The other batch of money was taken by the level 14 commander. He went on a date with some lady, so I came back." She added bashfully, "Uncle, I didn't mess up your plan, did I?"

Seeing her expression, Wu Heng smiled. "No, your sister Benny got the intel—we're moving tonight."

"Oh, thank goodness for Sister Benny." Xiaoxiao smiled again.

"Alright, let's prep for tonight's operation."

"Okay!"

...…

Night fell, casting a shadow over the entire city.

A patrol passed with torches in hand. Darkness returned.

Wu Heng stood in a pitch-black alley, mud and filth at his feet, eyes fixed on the mansion and the guards on the walls.

Soon, the ghost returned.

"She's dead," Benny said.

Wu Heng nodded. "Let me see. I'll teleport in."

Benny dove into him, sharing the mansion's layout.

Once he confirmed the location, he cast [Teleportation]. A magic circle formed, and the next second he appeared in a dim bedroom.

He pulled back the curtains and peeked out. Guards were still patrolling as usual—no signs of alarm.

Benny followed in.

She pointed to the bed. "They're right there. I left Xiaoxiao outside."

Wu Heng looked at the bed—two naked bodies, necks twisted grotesquely.

An elderly woman and a young muscular man.

"Who's the guy?"

"How would I know? They were already together when I arrived," Benny said.

Wu Heng nodded, tossed nearby clothes onto the bed, wrapped the bodies in the blanket, and stuffed them into his spatial ring.

With a snap of his fingers, he cast [Teleportation] again.

...…

The magic circle reappeared. Wu Heng returned to the gang's building.

Glenda was still waiting. "Handled?"

"A level 13? No big deal." Wu Heng said and placed the two corpses down.

Glenda frowned at the naked bodies. "You killed them mid-act?"

"Should I have waited?" Wu Heng said. "Cover them up. Xiaoxiao will be back."

"She's a ghost. She'll have to face this stuff someday," Glenda casually tossed sheets over them.

"She's still young. Give her a few years."

"You think ghosts grow up?"

Wu Heng didn't reply. He pulled out the Minister's spatial ring, wore it, and began taking things out.

Jewels, potions, scrolls, loads of gold and silver coins.

Then the Secret Cult's ring, a few letters, and an appointment document.

He opened the letters.

They detailed plans—including actions against Rentam City and the First Prince.

She was communicating with outsiders?

Was Wu Heng wrong? Maybe the Second Prince really wasn't in the city?

He kept checking the clothes on the floor.

The Minister's outfit also had several defensive trinkets—all discarded in the heat of the moment.

At this point, Benny and Xiaoxiao flew back in.

The corpses were now loosely covered.

Wu Heng cast [Speak with Dead]. The corpse jolted upright.

Wu Heng asked, "Where's the Second Prince?"

The corpse answered, "His Highness was placed in a hidden location by the elders. I don't know where."

Even the Minister didn't know?

Wu Heng paused, then asked, "Is he in this city?"

"Yes, in the city!"
