Chapter 668, Minced Meat
Boom~!
Suddenly, a massive explosion erupted from the sea beside the ship, waves blasting upward, sending sprays several meters high.
The ship rocked violently. Inside the cabin, the vampire kin were thrown about, while those on deck panicked, spreading their wings and taking to the air.
A large number of vampires flapped their wings in the air.
They looked down in shock and disbelief at the violently shaking ship below.
Whatever had just been launched caused an enormous splash.
Whoosh, whoosh~!
Two more piercing sounds of something breaking through the air followed.
Boom~!
As everyone looked up, the ship's bow and midsection suddenly exploded.
The massive cargo ship, seemingly sturdy, shattered like fragile sand bricks.
Under their watchful eyes, it disintegrated into pieces.
Debris scattered like bullets in all directions, shooting toward the vampires above.
Spikes pierced through bodies and wings, sending many screaming as they plummeted.
After the deafening explosions ended—
The remaining vampires looked down to see a wrecked sea surface, the sinking hull surrounded by floating debris.
As well as vampire corpses and wounded moaning in the sea.
Only around twenty vampires remained capable of fighting in the sky.
Fortunately for them, the ones on deck had reacted quickly and taken to the air—otherwise, they would've been wiped out.
"My lord, that ship is coming!" someone shouted.
A ship in the distance was speeding toward them.
The vampire leader's eyes flared with rage and killing intent. He growled coldly, "Watch out for heavy weaponry. Attack from the air and avenge the others."
"Yes, my lord!" Everyone drew their weapons.
They ascended rapidly, hidden in the pitch-black night, and once above the ship, dove down en masse.
Charging toward the target.
...…
"They're coming from the air," Phillipa ran back to warn.
Wu Heng immediately ordered, "Set close-in cannons to auto-mode."
Click-clack~!
The skeletons flipped the switches.
The ship's close-in cannons began to rotate rapidly.
Humm~!
A roaring barrage echoed out, and in an instant, the sky was lit up with a curtain of bullets.
The diving vampires instantly turned into a mist of blood.
Tiny bits of flesh and limbs rained down like a downpour, splashing into the sea around the ship.
Within seconds, not a single vampire remained.
Phillipa's eyes widened in shock. Even the parrot on her shoulder shivered.
Terrifying.
It turned people into minced meat.
Phillipa turned to the parrot, "Don't fly. It's scary."
This time, the parrot didn't argue and nodded heavily.
"Shut down the cannons. Deploy the speedboats. Kill all remaining enemies," Wu Heng commanded.
The close-in cannons powered down, their barrels slowly drooping.
In just a few seconds, a considerable number of rounds had been fired.
It was the most extravagant use yet, given they couldn't produce ammunition themselves.
Speedboats were mechanically lowered into the sea from the sides.
Skeletons operated the boats and mounted machine guns, opening fire on the vampires still alive in the water.
Bullets whistled through the air, finishing every last target.
Below the ship, the vampire leader was left with only half his body. He tried to sink himself into the depths.
As he watched bullets slicing through the water and his kin being slaughtered, his eyes filled with fear.
All he felt now was terror.
He had no idea what just happened.
One blink, and his entire force had been turned into meat. If not for his quick reaction and use of a blood mist ability, he'd be dead too.
When did such weapons exist?
Even high-level Professionals were as fragile as ants.
Enduring the pain, he gritted his teeth and slowly tore a scroll open.
A teleportation array began forming beneath his feet.
"Trying to run?"
Suddenly, a ghost appeared before him and plunged into his body. In a split second of distraction, the scroll flew from his hand.
"Damn it! Damn necromancer!" he cursed, swimming toward the scroll.
Then came a series of splashes above.
Skeletons dropped into the sea like dumplings, charging at the man.
Battle erupted.
...…
Soon, a ghost emerged from the depths.
It tried to flee into the distance.
But as soon as it surfaced, Glenda used [Soul Bind] to lock it mid-air.
Wu Heng approached quickly on a speedboat.
The vampire ghost's eyes were filled with terror and despair. It shouted, "Wu Heng! Wu Heng, let's talk! I'm sorry! Please spare me!"
Wu Heng looked at him, "No rush. You'll have time to atone back home."
"No, no, please..."
Wu Heng took out the Soul Jar and sucked the ghost into it, placing it into his spatial ring.
"Clean up the battlefield. Collect the bones. Check the sea for any valuables," Wu Heng ordered again.
The skeletons immediately got to work.
They swam around, loading corpses and valuable items onto speedboats and hauling them back.
Phillipa propped her chin, watching the busy skeletons. She said to the parrot, "Imagine if we had a ship like this back when we were pirates. We could've taken on anyone."
The parrot hopped over and nodded.
...…
Gold-Silver Island.
The streetlights shone brightly.
Armored from head to toe, Sheila Grey led an Adventurer's Guild squad through the streets.
A few drunkards out wandering sobered up instantly when they saw the fierce, killing-intent-filled group, carefully retreating back into taverns.
"Steward, what's going on?"
A patrolling guard asked cautiously.
Sheila Grey tossed over the governor's dispatch.
"All patrols along the way are under my command."
"Yes, ma'am!"
The guards nodded and fell in with the skeletons trailing behind.
...…
A mansion.
"Skeletons are still patrolling the city."
In the courtyard, a ranger used beasts to monitor the skeletons outside.
"Wait a little longer. No rush," Radwan said, though anxiety was creeping in.
At this hour, the vampires still hadn't killed the target.
Could something have gone wrong?
He mentally reviewed both sides' numbers and strength again. By all logic, the vampires couldn't lose—especially outside Gold-Silver Island, where the kid had no advantage.
Was I overthinking?
Bang~!
Suddenly, a loud impact struck the courtyard gate.
Radwan and his attendants, along with the mercenaries, were startled.
Weapons were drawn. All eyes turned to the gate.
Bang~!
Another impact. The gate burst open.
A flood of skeletons surged into the residence, followed by a figure in full armor with a longsword at her waist—
Sheila Grey!
"You... no, Steward, what's the meaning of this?" Radwan realized something was off and tried to deflect.
Sheila Grey drew her sword. White wings burst from her back as she became a streak of light, appearing before him in an instant.
The sword flashed. His head hit the ground.
Clang~!
The mercenaries were stunned. They drew weapons, preparing to fight.
Sheila Grey flicked the blood from her blade, sweeping a cold gaze across them. "Come with us for investigation. Resist and you'll be executed. Flee and you'll be wanted."
...…
Everyone stood frozen, at a loss.
They glanced at the headless corpse on the ground.
With their employer dead, there was no reason to resist.
One by one, they dropped their weapons.
...…
At dawn, the warship returned.
Wu Heng went straight to the Guild.
In the office, Sheila Grey was slouched in her chair yawning. Seeing Wu Heng return, she visibly relaxed.
"Everything okay?"
"All good. How's it going on Gold-Silver Island?" Wu Heng asked.
"The target is dead. The mercenaries and private attendants are being interrogated," she replied.
Wu Heng nodded, "Come on, let's visit the morgue. There's a ghost we can interrogate."
Sheila Grey stood and followed him out.
As they walked toward the morgue, she asked, "Who'd we kill?"
"Vampires."
"Vampires again?"
