Chapter 630, The Corvette

Guild.

Perhaps due to the expo—

The usually lively guild hall was oddly quiet today.

Most clerks were zoning out, and many internal guards had been assigned elsewhere to help maintain public order.

Sheila Grey and Shiyali had just returned from outside, and as they stepped into the corridor, they saw Deputy Steward Skit pacing in front of the study door.

He heard footsteps approaching.

Skit looked up, bowed slightly. "Steward, Assistant Shiyali."

"You came to see me?" Sheila Grey asked.

"There's something I'd like to report to you," Skit said immediately.

Sheila Grey opened the door. "Come in."

The three of them entered the room together.

Sheila Grey headed for the desk, while Shiyali went to make tea.

"What is it? Sit down and talk."

Skit remained by the door. He took out an ornate wooden box from his space ring, stepped forward, and placed it on the desk. "Steward, two days ago, Magnoro came to see me under the pretense of a visit. He said he wanted to call on the Island Lord and asked about him. This was the gift he gave me."

When Skit arrived at the guild and learned that 'Magnoro' had died, a bad feeling immediately crept over him.

He went to the morgue and asked the coroner about the cause of death. When he heard it was Wu Heng who killed him, cold sweat poured down his back.

He didn't need to analyze it—he already knew what must have happened.

The guy had just asked him the day before about the Island Lord's background, probing for intel about ghosts and identity.

That wasn't prep for a visit—it was prep for an assassination.

Back in his office, the more he thought about it, the more uneasy he felt.

If it were someone else, maybe this could be kept quiet. But this was Wu Heng.

No way this would be overlooked.

After much deliberation, he came to the steward first to report it.

After all, Sheila Grey would be easier to talk to than Wu Heng.

And she was his direct superior.

Hearing this, both Sheila Grey and Shiyali looked up at him.

Killing a Secret Cult member—who would've thought it'd be tied to the guild's own Deputy Steward?

Sheila Grey opened the box on the desk, revealing a gem-embedded ornate dagger.

It was quite beautiful.

To a sword-wielding Professional, it was very enticing.

She closed the box again. "What exactly did he say to you? Tell me everything."

"Yes," Skit replied, recounting the conversation.

He highlighted all the key questions Magnoro had asked.

His tone was serious and sincere.

After hearing everything, Sheila Grey asked, "Anything else? Think carefully—don't leave anything out."

Skit bowed again. "I wouldn't dare, Steward."

Sheila Grey nodded. "When's your patrol shift?"

"I have one more at dusk."

"Hand off that patrol to someone else. Don't speak of this to anyone yet—it might hinder your promotion later," Sheila Grey said.

Skit immediately saluted. "Understood."

"Alright, go back. Don't stress too much."

"Thank you, Steward." Skit saluted again and left the room.

Once the door closed again—

Shiyali brought over the tea she had brewed. "You trust him that much?"

Sheila Grey took a sip and picked up the box. "I'm going to see Wu Heng. You take his place on patrol."

"Why me..." Shiyali complained.

Sheila Grey walked out without answering.

...…

Outside the Island Lord's mansion.

As the carriage neared, noise could be heard.

Pulling aside the curtain, Sheila Grey saw a long line forming at the entrance.

Everyone in line wore fine clothing—clearly nobles or wealthy merchants.

No commoners in sight.

The carriage stopped at the entrance. Sheila Grey stepped down.

Someone greeted her immediately, and she waved back in acknowledgment.

Inside the gates, many skeletons guarded the entrance. Three maids were busy—one receiving gifts and thanking guests, one recording names and merchant affiliations, and one sorting the gifts.

Sheila Grey was speechless.

If she didn't know Wu Heng wasn't hurting for money, she'd think this whole expo was just a gift collection scam.

No one was turned away—every gift was accepted.

Suddenly, she felt that Skit accepting the dagger wasn't such a big deal after all.

"Steward Sheila Grey." Minnie came over and bowed with a smile.

"Miss Minnie, is Wu Heng in?" Sheila Grey asked with a smile.

"Master's not in. I'll have him find you when he returns," Minnie replied.

Sheila Grey frowned slightly. She said in a low voice, "I need to see the Seer about something urgent."

"I'll take you," Minnie responded and led her inside.

They went upstairs and entered the Seer's room.

Even facing the Skeleton Seer, Sheila Grey remained respectful. She took out the gift box and said, "Seer, I need to look into something that happened two days ago."

The Seer turned its head—empty sockets stared at her.

It took the box and hovered one hand over it, the other grabbing Sheila Grey's arm.

In the next second, fragmented scenes flooded her mind.

It was the conversation between Skit and Magnoro in the study.

It confirmed that Skit had told the truth.

It really was just a probing conversation, asking about Wu Heng under the guise of a visit.

The whole thing lasted maybe three or four seconds.

The visions ended.

The Seer released her hand. Sheila Grey bowed and left the room with Minnie.

Then she returned to the guild.

...…

Zombie World.

Roar! Roar! Roar~!

The tide of zombies slammed into the spear phalanx.

Growls and tearing sounds erupted as wave after wave of zombies died under the spears—yet more surged forward.

One by one, ghostly spirits floated up.

Wu Heng turned to the side. "Glenda, Beni, go absorb the lingering souls."

The two ghosts exchanged a glance, then flew off one after the other, devouring the souls.

Only Xiaoxiao remained floating nearby, watching the chaos.

With no claim on the lingering souls, she didn't care at all.

At the rear of the group—

The base veterans remained calm, busy with their assigned tasks.

But the newly arrived Korean survivors had never seen such a sight.

Just hearing the nonstop growls and the sound of slicing bones made their knees weak. Their work was clumsy and slow.

"Stay sharp. We're logistics—we're not in danger," a veteran fluent in Korean shouted.

"Why are you fighting the zombies head-on? That's reckless!" someone yelled.

The veteran shot them a glance. "What's the fuss? You're barely a handful of people. Back in our place, the corpse hordes stretched beyond the horizon. Quit whining."

Others cautiously glanced at the distant battle.

Confirming the horde wasn't breaking through, they resumed work.

Praying silently that nothing would go wrong.

...…

Time passed little by little.

A system notification appeared.

[Ghost has reached Level 16, ...…]

Beni had leveled up again.

Though Glenda had absorbed more, she hadn't leveled yet.

"Full advance!" Wu Heng ordered.

Rumble~!

The skeleton army stood and moved forward in a tight spear formation.

They wiped out the remaining zombies.

Wu Heng began converting special corpses, storing the corpse cores.

He then cast [Battlefield of the Dead] to turn all remaining zombies into skeletons and added them to the ranks.

The skeleton army marched forward.

They stormed the power plant, slaughtering every zombie inside and claiming the facility.

Wu Heng inspected the interior.

It was confirmed—a thermal power plant. His 'Furnace' setup would work here.

He called Qi Hancai on the walkie-talkie.

When she arrived, he said, "Have someone measure the dimensions. I'll restore power afterward."

"Got it!" Qi Hancai nodded.

Survivors jumped off trucks and started scavenging.

As night fell, the convoy headed back.

...…

After returning—

Wu Heng went to his room and returned to Gold-Silver Island via the world gate.

He placed the gate at Port No. 2, setting it within the massive wooden gates already built.

Then he returned to the zombie world and led a large number of skeletons to the port.

After confirming no one was around—

He used the bronze ring to open the prepared gate.

A massive light curtain appeared like a portal.

Wu Heng ordered the skeletons aboard the corvette, "Drive it in!"

Whoosh~!

The corvette activated and sailed into the gate.

Wu Heng, watching the entire ship enter, pulled out the key and headed to bed.
