Vergil remained seated at the table for a few moments after the conversation ended, silently observing the distant lights of Tokyo reflected in the suite's enormous windows. The weight of that call still lingered somewhere in the back of his mind, not exactly as immediate worry, but as that irritating feeling that something was slowly beginning to go awry in the world again. The Abyss rarely moved without consequences, and the mere fact that Sapphire had personally called before leaving was enough to make him more alert than he let on.
Even so, the atmosphere around him remained absurdly domestic.
Roxanne continued examining the sweets scattered across the table like someone trying to select important magical artifacts. Ada slowly dried her hair while silently organizing her thoughts. And Katharina remained completely naked beside the table, showing no discomfort whatsoever about her lack of clothing as she watched Vergil with increasing attention.
