In Northern Anhui, the local custom is to visit ancestral graves on the afternoon of the New Year's Eve and the morning of the first day of the New Year.
However, only men can go, regardless of age, women cannot.
A group of people, drunkenly stumbling, head towards the fields, leaving the house suddenly empty, with only a few women left to wash the leftover dishes, pots, and pans, chatting about family matters.
The aunt, already past her fifties, her hair a mix of black and grey, joked as she washed the dishes:
"Xia Qin, your daughter-in-law is really beautiful and has a great presence, maybe in a couple of years, you'll be able to hold a grandson."
Xia Qin chuckled lightly, "She's only just started her first year of university, to get married and have children, at least she needs to graduate first!"
The aunt laughed, "Your family is so wealthy, what's the need for school? Hurry up and get married, have lots of sons, and inherit the family business; that's what truly matters."
