The next day, when Si Wen got up, she looked around but couldn't see Xue Xing anywhere. "I don't think I've seen Xue Xing today," she commented.
"Oh, Xing Zai went to school early this morning," Zhong Hailan replied. "He was supposed to go last night but had asked the school for one night's leave."
"I see. Did he say anything this morning?"
"Not really. Anyway, his dad took him to school bright and early."
"Okay, thank you, Auntie Zhong."
Just as she was about to head back to her room, Yang Zhaodi came out, wheeling her bicycle.
"Good morning, Aunt Yang."
"Good morning. Well, I'm heading to work now. You all have a good time here."
After saying that, Yang Zhaodi hurried off, looking as if she didn't want to make small talk with Si Wen.
So, Xue Xing's mother really doesn't like me, Si Wen realized.
Lin Xi didn't know what to say either. It's a bit of a shame. But then again, when you know something won't end well, it's not a bad thing to end it early, she thought.
