Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya
Chapter 409: Bai "Musical Genius" Luo
Rosaria had also heard that strange sound.
As a drunkard long influenced by the bards in taverns, Rosaria sharply realized that this soul-piercing noise seemed to come from some kind of musical instrument.
She had no idea what kind of instrument could make people instinctively blurt out, "Shit! A monster's nearby!"
But she understood that this sound would be her best chance to escape her predicament.
Bzzzz—
The strange noise did not disappoint Rosaria.
Just after the guards lit the lamps inside the tent, an extremely shrill sound echoed throughout the snowy mountain.
Fortunately, because of certain mysterious forces surrounding the mountain, avalanches were difficult to trigger naturally.
Otherwise... sooner or later, they would all end up buried beneath the snow.
"It's happening again..."
Outside the tent, the Fatui had already become alert because of the noise.
But the guards responsible for watching Rosaria remained standing firmly in place without moving an inch.
As soldiers, their duty was to guard this prisoner.
Until their superiors issued new orders, even if a dragon truly revived and attacked them, they would not abandon their post.
Rosaria was not disappointed, because from the beginning, she had never expected the sound to lure the guards away.
She merely wanted to use it as cover to do something else.
Knives, gauntlets, spikes—anything on her body that could be used as a weapon had already been confiscated by the Cryo Cicin Mage. And with the Cryo Gunner, who was highly sensitive to Cryo elemental energy, nearby, she could not even condense an ice blade with her powers.
Under normal circumstances, she should have had no way to break out of the wooden cage.
But the Fatui had overlooked one other place.
Placing her hands before her chest in a praying posture—no matter how rude she usually appeared while smoking during ceremonies, at this moment, the pose surprisingly did not look out of place on her.
Of course, she was not actually praying to the Anemo Archon.
Because she understood clearly that in this situation, rather than asking Barbatos for protection, it was better to save herself.
Her hand lightly brushed the valley between her breasts, and she pulled out a sharp little knife.
The knife was only about the length of a palm, but in these circumstances... it could serve an excellent purpose.
It wasn't that the Cryo Cicin Mage had neglected to search her chest area. She simply had never imagined that someone would hide such a dangerous weapon in a place so soft and vulnerable.
It really depended on the person.
For example, Hu Tao—forget a palm-length knife, she probably couldn't even hold a sewing needle there.
However, the knife was not meant for breaking the cage. While destroying the cage would not have been difficult, it would certainly alert the guards.
Her hand reached toward her chest again. Using the knife, she sliced open something hidden inside her clothing and pulled out a thin object resembling a wire.
As someone who had grown up among thieves, unless the Fatui used one of those lockhole-less locks produced in Fontaine... they could never truly keep her confined.
After disguising the bedding to resemble a sleeping person, Rosaria quietly unlocked the cage door under the cover of the noise and slipped out.
However, she did not attempt to attack the guards, because she knew that would only result in her being captured again.
Her somewhat intimidating eyes swept across the tent. She took the knife and carefully cut open the weakest part of the fabric, creating an opening just large enough for her to pass through.
The sudden rush of cold air sent a chill through Rosaria's entire body.
Fortunately, the Fatui guards were distracted by the noise and failed to notice what was happening.
And so, she quietly slipped outside and vanished into the forest beneath the cover of night.
Only when one of the guards noticed that the temperature inside the tent was steadily dropping did they realize the prisoner had escaped.
But by then, trying to find someone highly skilled at hiding in the vast snowy mountains was no easy task.
"A single tune rends the soul apart; beneath the same moon, we share this distant night."
After stopping his movements, Bai Luo slowly let out a breath and, as usual, recited his "incantation."
You could criticize his erhu playing all you wanted, but you could always trust his talent for matching it with five-character poetry. Across all seven nations, there probably wasn't another genius like him. Even the Heavenly Principles themselves would have to say only one thing—
"Indeed."
He always managed to combine two completely unrelated lines of poetry without the slightest sense of awkwardness.
Actually, Bai Luo had not intended to play the erhu in the first place.
"A scholar dies for one who understands him; a tune is played for one who truly listens."
Other than a few people who had gone through life-and-death experiences with him, very few had ever been fortunate enough to hear him perform.
The only reason he played today was because of something Silver had said.
"It's a little cold in the cave. I want to go outside and bask in the sun."
Silver's meaning was simple enough—he merely wanted an excuse to step outside and look at the scenery.
No matter how much of an artificial human he was, and no matter how impossible nearsightedness might be for him, staying in a cave reading books all day would still become stifling.
But Bai Luo completely misunderstood him.
Blessed by the Anemo Archon, Bai Luo was constantly protected by the wind while on Dragonspine.
So while everyone else felt cold, he himself noticed nothing unusual.
To keep Silver from feeling cold, to warm his heart, Bai Luo decided to bring out the erhu blessed by the Anemo Archon and use it to drive away the chill inside the cave.
And thus... the previous scene came to be.
The amplification effect from the Anemo Archon's blessing, combined with the echoes inside the cave, made the already... "beautiful" sound even louder.
It even directly wiped out the entire camp where Vadim was stationed.
And Silver, beneath the winding, age-worn melody of the erhu, drifted peacefully to sleep.
Other than after eating Bai Luo's Sunsettias, he had never slept so soundly before. Even now, he still has not woken up.
The erhu always made people think of sad things. Having already played one song earlier, Bai Luo could not help feeling sentimental after seeing the moon rise into the sky.
So while his hands were still warmed up, he played another tune.
Standing at the cave entrance, looking at the clouds in the sky being swept apart by the sound of his erhu, Bai Luo could not help but sigh:
"Damn, I play really well!"
At the same time, he grew even fonder of the erhu in his hands.
No one could resist an instrument that was loud, lightweight, and also allowed him to control the wind.
This also reminded him of the old man who had originally given him the erhu.
Unfortunately, he had failed to save the old man back then. Otherwise... he could probably have found an excuse to claim the suona from the man's cart as well.
Although he had absolutely no idea how to play the suona, Bai Luo was very aware of his own "musical talent."
He firmly believed that if he devoted himself to learning it, then just like alchemy, he would eventually master it too.
In short, Bai Luo was a once-in-a-generation musical prodigy!
