Chapter 407: A Conversation Between Diluc and Kaeya

After Stormterror had been driven away by Bai Luo, Mondstadt City seemed to return to its previous peace and quiet.

Thanks to the efforts of the craftsmen, most of the buildings in the city had already been repaired. Only a small portion with more severe damage was still undergoing restoration.

Aside from the increased number of knights on routine patrol, the city itself was no different from before.

The Cat's Tail still had not reopened, so Angel's Share had become the alcoholics' only choice.

Even though Charles' bartending skills were nowhere near as good as Diona's, during special times like these, nobody had the luxury of being picky.

After once again confirming that the young bard still had not awakened, Diluc closed the room's door and walked toward the counter.

In Diluc's impression, this drunken bard who had become rather close to Bai Luo was almost always in this unconscious state.

Sigh~ of all people to associate with, why did he have to get so close to that troublesome guy?

However, as he reached the counter, Diluc paused.

Because someone was sitting there.

"Yo."

With the Ausbilder absent from the city these past few days, Kaeya looked far more relaxed. The tension that normally lingered in his body had once again turned into his usual lazy demeanor.

"If you're here asking for bar snacks again, forget it."

After stepping behind the counter, Diluc casually took away the wine bottle in front of Kaeya and spoke.

Ever since Diluc had once offered him snacks to go with drinks, Kaeya had asked for them every single time he visited.

"This time it's not about snacks. It's about the Ausbilder."

Glancing at the bottle that Diluc had taken away, Kaeya did not complain. Instead, he remained unusually calm.

He was absolutely certain Diluc would return the bottle.

He'd even bet his eyepatch on it.

Sure enough, just as Diluc was about to place the Dandelion Wine back onto the shelf, his movements paused upon hearing Kaeya's words.

"Explain."

The Dandelion Wine was returned to Kaeya, while Diluc handed his work over to Charles.

In this world, there was only one person capable of making him take matters this seriously.

"No snacks with the wine?"

Rarely seeing Diluc like this, Kaeya appropriately made a small joke.

But Diluc was not in the mood to indulge him. Seeing Kaeya's attitude, he immediately reached out as if to take the wine back again.

"Alright, alright. It's news from Dragonspine."

Seeing this, Kaeya instantly tightened his grip on the bottle.

Wine could be found anytime, but wine personally handed to him by Diluc was a rare occasion.

"Something happened on Dragonspine?"

Under normal circumstances, Diluc did not pay much attention to matters on Dragonspine.

But now things were different.

The Ausbilder was currently there.

"I had someone investigating the dragon situation on the mountain before. You remember that, right?"

"Mm. Did your people run into the Ausbilder?"

Diluc knew about this matter already, which was one of the reasons he himself had not focused his investigations on Dragonspine.

Regardless of Kaeya's personality, he was dependable when it came to handling matters.

"I lost contact with her."

Kaeya said this while lifting his wine glass.

He was not especially worried for the other party's safety. As drinking companions, just as she knew some of his trump cards, he also understood part of her capabilities.

"The Ausbilder did it?"

Slightly frowning, Diluc asked.

"That part honestly isn't clear. Following the clues she left behind, I tracked things to a Fatui camp. Logically speaking, Fatui vanguard troops shouldn't have been enough to deal with her, so I suspect there's a high probability the Ausbilder was involved."

Kaeya said this while taking out Rosaria's dagger.

When she had been captured by Bai Luo, she had actually left behind a coded sign.

And that code meant she could handle the current situation herself—which was one of the reasons Kaeya wasn't panicking.

"What else?"

If Kaeya himself wasn't worried, then Diluc had even less reason to be concerned.

Until the barrier surrounding Stormterror's Lair was dealt with, investigations regarding Dvalin had to be temporarily suspended anyway.

Right now, he cared more about information related to the Ausbilder.

"At the temporary location where she had stayed, I found some intel. According to those documents, the Fatui on Dragonspine are all there because of that evil dragon."

Although the Fatui handled classified information very carefully, the dragon's remains were simply too conspicuous.

So as long as one investigated thoroughly enough, uncovering their objective wasn't difficult.

"Hmm... that does sound like their style."

Diluc was already thoroughly accustomed to this kind of behavior from the Fatui.

A few months earlier, someone had excavated a sealed bottle containing a trace of Anemo Archon aura from the Temple of the Four Winds' "East Wind."

In order to compete with the Fatui for that bottle of divine aura, Diluc had even spent a portion of his "pocket money" buying more than two thousand counterfeit bottles of "Anemo Archon aura."

In short, wherever matters involving gods existed, the Fatui's shadow would inevitably appear.

"And then there's the Chief Alchemist who was also sketching on Dragonspine."

"Albedo, huh..."

Diluc wasn't surprised that Albedo had crossed paths with the Fatui.

Both sides were frequent visitors to Dragonspine, so interaction between them was unavoidable.

What did surprise him was that the two parties had managed to coexist peacefully on the mountain.

"Apparently, the Chief Alchemist's camp was completely emptied out. They didn't even leave behind a single roll of toilet paper."

Holding his wine glass, Kaeya wore a rather subtle expression.

Because he already had a rough idea who the culprit was.

There was probably only one person capable of doing something like that.

"The Ausbilder?"

Compared to Kaeya, who still held certain reservations, Diluc was much more straightforward and directly spoke the name aloud.

Then again, Diluc wasn't a member of the Knights of Favonius anymore.

Whatever he said only represented his personal stance.

Unlike Kaeya, whose words could easily be twisted by certain ill-intentioned individuals looking for excuses to stir up trouble.

"All signs point to it being him, nine times out of ten."

Just mentioning the incident made Kaeya want to complain.

Because the matter involved diplomacy between two nations, Albedo had not rashly confronted the Fatui. Instead, he had brought Klee back to Mondstadt City first.

After learning about the situation, Jean personally brought Albedo to the Goth Grand Hotel to demand an explanation.

Unexpectedly, that counselor outright refused to admit anything.

"Our Lord Harbinger hasn't returned since leaving. I have every reason to suspect you have detained our Lord Harbinger. Compared to those so-called notes and books, I care far more about Lord Harbinger's safety."

Those were Anastasia's exact words.

"Absurd and laughable."

After hearing Kaeya's description, Diluc offered his evaluation.

Had that counselor not bothered to think things through?

If they truly possessed the ability to detain that person, would they still have spent so long suffering headaches because of him?

But as the saying goes: if the upper beam is crooked, the lower beams won't be straight either.

With the Ausbilder himself already behaving like that, it wasn't surprising in the slightest that his subordinates would say such things too.
