Chapter 36 - SEASON 1 CHAPTER 36 (SIO JUN ARC-THE CURSE OF A LONELY HEART)

Chapter VI — The Curse of a Lonely Heart

Sio Jun Arc

The smoke had long faded.

Where fire once devoured the village, life had begun again.

Not the same.

Never the same.

But alive.

The land still carried scars—charred wood, blackened earth, broken structures—but hands worked tirelessly to rebuild. New huts rose where ashes once lay. Fields were cleared again. Fires were lit once more—not for destruction, but for warmth.

And at the center of it all—

Was Sio Jun.

A New Beginning

She stayed.

At first, she hadn't meant to.

She told herself it was temporary—just until they were safe, just until the fear settled, just until the shadows no longer lingered.

But days became weeks.

Weeks became months.

And slowly…

The village became something she had never had before.

A place.

Each morning, she woke before the others, patrolling the outskirts, ensuring no danger crept close. She hunted for them—not out of instinct alone, but purpose—bringing back food when supplies ran thin.

At first, they feared her.

Watched her.

Whispered.

But she never raised her voice.

Never lost control.

Never gave them a reason to doubt her again.

And slowly—

They began to trust.

The Life She Never Knew

She learned their ways.

How to build.

How to prepare food the human way.

How to sit among others without scanning for threats every second.

She laughed.

At first, it felt strange—unnatural even—but it came easier with time.

Children followed her around, fascinated by her strength, her speed, the way she could hear things long before anyone else.

"Teach me that!" one would say.

"Can you run faster than the wind?" another would ask.

Sio Jun would smile faintly.

"Not faster than the wind," she'd reply. "But faster than you."

They'd laugh.

And for a moment—

She forgot she didn't belong.

Him

It started quietly.

Like most important things do.

His name was Kael.

Not a warrior.

Not the strongest.

But steady.

Kind.

The kind of man who spoke little—but listened deeply.

He had been one of the first to stand his ground the night she warned them. One of the few who believed her before the shadows came.

He didn't fear her.

Didn't idolize her either.

He treated her like…

A person.

"You're always watching the horizon," he said one evening as they sat near the fire.

Sio Jun glanced at him. "Habit."

"You think something else is coming?"

"…No," she said after a pause. "I think I'm just not used to peace."

Kael smiled slightly. "Then maybe it's time you learn."

She didn't respond.

But she didn't look away either.

The Slow Fall

Days passed.

Then more.

They spent more time together—working, talking, sharing quiet moments beneath the fading light of dusk.

He taught her patience.

She taught him awareness.

He showed her how to live.

She showed him how to survive.

And somewhere between those moments—

Something changed.

Something deeper than trust.

Something softer than strength.

Something dangerous.

The Feeling She Was Never Meant to Have

One night, beneath the single moon of Azura, Kael spoke the truth she had been avoiding.

"You don't have to leave," he said quietly.

Sio Jun looked at him.

"I was never meant to stay," she replied.

"Who says that?"

She hesitated.

"…My world."

Kael shook his head slightly. "Then maybe your world was wrong."

Silence stretched between them.

Then—

"I want you to stay," he said.

Her heart skipped.

That word again.

Want.

Not need.

Not fear.

Something real.

She looked away.

"I don't belong anywhere," she whispered.

Kael stepped closer.

"Then stay somewhere that wants you anyway."

Her breath caught.

And for the first time since her exile—

Sio Jun allowed herself to believe it.

The Promise

The village celebrated.

It had been a long time since they had something worth celebrating.

Laughter filled the air.

Music echoed.

Firelight danced across smiling faces.

Sio Jun stood at the center of it all.

Not as an outsider.

Not as a protector.

But as one of them.

Kael stood beside her, his hand gently holding hers.

"We'll build something," he said softly. "Here."

She nodded.

"…Together."

The word felt fragile.

But real.

Plans were made.

A future imagined.

A life she had never dared to dream of.

They were to be married.

The Curse Awakens

That night—

Everything broke.

It started as a whisper beneath her skin.

A tremor.

A shift.

Sio Jun woke suddenly, her body burning, her breath uneven.

Something was wrong.

Very wrong.

Her heart pounded violently.

Her senses exploded.

The wolf—

Was not listening.

"No…" she whispered, clutching her chest.

This wasn't like before.

This wasn't instinct.

This was—

Forcing.

Her body twisted as pain shot through her limbs. Her vision blurred. Her claws extended without control.

Her voice broke into a growl she couldn't suppress.

Kael stirred beside her.

"Sio Jun…?"

He reached out—

"Don't!" she tried to say.

But it was too late.

The wolf surged forward.

Not as a part of her—

But against her.

Her scream turned into a howl.

And then—

Silence.

The Aftermath

When she opened her eyes—

It was morning.

The village was quiet.

Too quiet.

Her body felt heavy.

Her hands—

Covered in blood.

Her breath caught.

"No…"

She turned slowly.

And saw him.

Kael.

Still.

Cold.

Gone.

Her world shattered.

The Fear Returns

The scream that left her was not human.

Villagers rushed in.

Stopped.

Stared.

Horror spread instantly.

"She killed him…"

"No…"

"She's a monster—"

Sio Jun shook her head violently.

"No! It wasn't me—I didn't—"

But her words meant nothing.

Fear had already decided.

The same fear.

The same judgment.

Again.

The One Who Stayed

Only one person stepped forward.

Mama Agatha.

Old.

Wise.

Unshaken.

She looked at Sio Jun—not with fear.

With understanding.

"…A curse," she said quietly.

Sio Jun froze.

"What?"

Agatha nodded slowly. "Placed on you. Hidden deep. Triggered by attachment… by love."

Sio Jun's breath trembled.

"…Why?"

Agatha's eyes darkened.

"To remind you," she said, "that you were never meant to belong."

The Final Choice

Sio Jun closed her eyes.

Tears fell silently.

"I can't stay," she whispered.

"No," Agatha agreed. "But you don't have to run either."

Sio Jun looked at her.

"…What do I do?"

Agatha turned toward the distant mountains.

"There is a cave," she said. "Old. Sealed. It can hold what you cannot control."

Sio Jun understood immediately.

Not a prison.

A choice.

The Cage She Chose

Days later—

She stood at the mouth of the cave.

The same place fate would one day bring her back to.

She turned once—

Not to the village.

But to Agatha.

"Thank you," she said softly.

Agatha nodded.

"I'll wait," she replied.

Sio Jun stepped inside.

Darkness swallowed her.

Chains were placed.

Seals were drawn.

And the cave closed.

Closing Line

Sio Jun had survived judgment.

She had survived exile.

She had even found love.

But fate had taken that from her too.

And so—

The lone wolf chose her own prison.

Not because she was weak.

But because she refused to hurt anyone again.
