Chapter 67 - Intent

Elder Han did not speak with a booming roar. His voice was calm, almost a whisper, yet it resonated through the souls of everyone in the plaza as if he were speaking directly into their minds.

"Listen well," he began, his blue eyes sweeping over the group. "If you want to survive the Mortal Core realm and reach for the heights beyond, you must understand two things: Shape and Nature."

He paused, letting the silence emphasize his words. "Shape is your technique, the movements you learn from jade slips. Nature is your heart. Many of you choose weapons because you think they look prestigious, or because a certain sect Elder uses them. This is the path of the mediocre. If you wield a weapon you aren't comfortable with, a weapon you don't find joy in practicing, you will eventually reach a wall you cannot climb. You will never grasp the essence. You will never use Intent."

Hanyuan leaned forward, his heartbeat quickening. This was the first time he had heard a high level master speak of this concept.

"What is Intent?" Elder Han asked rhetorically. "At its core, Intent is the accumulation of a cultivator's total understanding of a specific path. It is not a technique you learn from a manual or a script; it is a spark of enlightenment you achieve through ten thousand repetitions and a deep spiritual connection to your craft. It is the moment your willpower ceases to be internal and begins to project into the world, suppressing your enemies and enhancing your lethality."

Elder Han raised a single finger. A faint, invisible ripple distorted the air around it. Hanyuan felt a cold sweat break out on his neck,it felt as if a physical blade was hovering an inch from his throat.

"There are as many types of Intent as there are paths to the heavens," Elder Han continued. "Sword Intent, Fist Intent, Spear Intent, Axe Intent... each has its own unique advantage. But all share one thing: if you manage to manifest even a sliver of Intent, you will absolute dominate anyone at your same stage who does not possess it. To a master of Intent, a person using only raw Qi is like a child swinging a stick."

Hanyuan listened with a interest he hadn't felt in months, absorbing every syllable.

Intent... the projection of will, Hanyuan mused.

Elder Han spoke for more than two hours, detailing the subtle differences between physical strikes and the manifestation of will. By the time he stood up and vanished in a flicker of silver light, the sun had shifted across the sky.

Hanyuan stood up, stretching his limbs. His joints popped, and a faint crackle of lightning danced between his fingertips. The lecture had given him a map for the future,a goal even more important than his cultivation Stage.

"I think I'll head to the cafeteria to eat something before I go back to train," Hanyuan mumbled, his mind still filled with the image of that distorted air around Elder Han's finger. He looked at his two companions. "Wanna come with me?"

Feng Yue nodded, her expression serious. As a sword user, Elder Han's words had likely struck a deep chord in her. Qin Yu also nodded, though he looked a bit dazed, likely trying to cross reference the lecture with every book he had ever read.

The three of them walked toward the bridge, leaving the Ascension Plaza behind.

The Inner Sect cafeteria was draped in a tranquil atmosphere. The usual clamor of a common mess hall was replaced by the low, dignified murmur of high level cultivators and the gentle clinking of jade chopsticks against porcelain, sounds that echoed softly under the grand, vaulted ceiling. Hanyuan, Feng Yue, and Qin Yu found a secluded table near a wide, open window that overlooked a churning sea of clouds, where spirit cranes occasionally glided by like strokes of white ink.

"The free food in the Inner Sect is still a miracle to me," Qin Yu remarked, his mood significantly lightened by the savory scents wafting from the kitchen. "I keep waiting for someone to hand me a bill for three hundred spirit stones."

They ordered the Braised Spirit-Eel with Sun-Ripened Grains. The eel, a Tier 2 beast harvested from high altitude mountain streams, had been slow cooked in a shimmering glaze made from fermented star berries. When Hanyuan took a bite, he felt a sharp, faint electric tingle dancing across his tongue, the residual lightning energy of the eel reacting with his Qi. The grains served alongside were dense and chewy, releasing a slow, steady stream of Qi into his Dantian that felt like a warm, grounding anchor.

"Phew, I'm so full," Qin Yu said, leaning back and patting his belly in absolute satisfaction.

Feng Yue, who had eaten with delicate precision, only looked at him with a slight frown. "Nerd," she mumbled under her breath.

Qin Yu ignored the jab, his expression turning slightly pale as he remembered something. "Actually, I heard rumors from the mission hall. They say Zhao Yao will break through to the Mortal Core stage next month. She's been in extreme seclusion." He shuddered at the thought. "I hope once she reaches the Inner Sect, she finds something else to do besides trying to duel me every single day. She's relentless."

Hanyuan chuckled, knowing his friend's suffering was far from over.

The three of them eventually separated at the light bridge. While his friends headed back to their respective districts to meditate on Elder Han's words, Hanyuan took a detour to the Inner Sect Shop.

He wasn't searching for pills or weapons this time. He approached the specialized counter for agricultural resources.

"I'd like a seed for a The Azure Sky-Apple Tree," Hanyuan said, placing the mid grade spirit stones on the counter.

The Old Man handed over a small, translucent seed that pulsed with a soft, sky blue light. It cost him 10 Mid-grade Spirit Stones,a high price for a single seed, but the investment was sound. The Azure Sky Apple was a rare Tier 2 Spirit Fruit known not only for its incredible flavor but for its potent ability to calm the mind and soothe agitated meridians.

Hanyuan returned to his estate in the Crest-Cloud District. He bypassed the main pagoda and went to a small, sun drenched backyard that he hadn't used much since moving in. With a few focused movements, he cleared a patch of spirit soil and carefully planted the seed near the center of the yard.

The Azure Sky-Apple didn't require complex watering or fertilization, it was a noble tree that only needed a thick Qi environment and the clean air of the high peaks to grow. Hanyuan stood back, watching as the soil began to glow faintly blue where the seed rested.

As the sun began to set, casting long, orange shadows across his garden, Hanyuan sat cross legged near the newly planted seed. He closed his eyes, his breathing matching the rhythmic pulse of the earth.
