Adam introduced Stella to the woman, "Grandmother, this girl will be the new nanny."
The room was calm and orderly, with soft light filtering through the tall windows, giving everything a quiet, composed atmosphere.
Grandmother gave Stella a kind look and then said, "As long as my grandson brought you, then you will be suitable. I am very confident in his opinion."
Adam gave her a brief glance, a silent signal for her to respond.
"Thank you, Mrs."
Adam spoke to the maid, "It's your responsibility now, Hannah."
"Yes, Sir."
She greeted him respectfully and then turned to Stella, "Miss, please follow me."
The two of them walked out of the room.
Hannah walked slightly ahead, guiding Stella through the wide corridors of the mansion. Their footsteps echoed faintly against the polished floors.
They did not speak until they arrived. Hannah then said with a polite smile, "Here, this is your room. You can use it as you like, as long as you work here."
"Thank you."
"Tomorrow I will explain to you the nature of your work as a nanny. Today at dinner, you will meet the little Miss."
She paused for a moment before speaking again, "Right, tell me your name if you please, Miss."
"My name is Alina White."
"Well, Miss Alina. Rest now, and when the time comes, I'll come pick you up."
After Hannah left, Stella went into the room to rest.
"I should take a break, my eyes are swollen from fatigue."
The room was small but comfortable. It was furnished in a simple and practical way, with enough space to move freely.
A modest bed stood near the wall, and a wooden wardrobe was placed neatly in the corner. A few simple decorations softened the atmosphere without making it feel crowded.
The first thing Stella did was lie down on the bed.
She was very tired, but that did not stop her thoughts.
"He looked very respectful and kind in front of his grandmother, even his treatment of the maid was tactful. What an actor."
She turned onto her side, trying to sleep, but as usual, she could not. Thoughts kept running through her mind.
"I have to find out who these people are first. They are very rich. I should go out now and ask someone."
She decided to try to talk to one of the servants rather than wait until evening. Without hesitation, she got up and went to the door.
But the moment she opened it, she found someone already standing there.
It was a young maid with a graceful appearance. Her features were soft, and her expression calm.
Her eyes carried a quiet depth, and her posture reflected discipline. She wore a modest yet neat servant uniform, fitting naturally into the refined environment of the mansion.
She spoke in a gentle and polite voice, "Miss, I was sent to give you this."
She held a neatly folded dress in her hands.
"Oh, thank you."
Stella immediately thought of taking the opportunity to ask her something before she left.
She took the dress and placed it aside, then spoke, "If you'll excuse me, I have a question."
The girl smiled softly, "Yes, Miss, what is it?"
"Where am I now?"
A look of surprise appeared on the girl's face. She hesitated briefly before answering, "Do you not know?"
"If I had known, I wouldn't have asked. I met your master by chance, and he brought me here because I was looking for a job."
After hearing this, the girl stepped closer and lowered her voice.
"This is the House of the 'Loran' family."
The Loran family was one of the most well-known families on the continent, famous for its successful trade and strong connections with the ruling families of the four regions, and their influence extended across multiple territories.
Their current heir held an important position in the eastern region, further strengthening their authority.
Stella stepped closer as well. "Why are you speaking so quietly?"
She replied in the same low tone, "Because it is not allowed to talk freely, especially about them."
"Strictly speaking, even casual conversation can be a problem here."
Stella felt that she needed to know more, so she continued asking.
The maid, Carla, explained briefly.
The family consisted of five members, the grandfather, the grandmother, and three grandchildren.
The only son of Mr. and Mrs. Loran had died five years ago. He had been married twice.
From his first wife, who died shortly after giving birth to their second child, he had two sons.
The youngest daughter was from his second wife, who later divorced him and left, leaving the child behind with the family.
Stella could not learn more, Carla seemed to be in a hurry and avoided going into details. She did not even mention the name of the granddaughter Stella would be caring for.
"Damn, she left before I asked what mattered."
After that, Stella closed the door and returned to rest.
"Too much thinking won't help right now."
