The call came the next morning, before Aaron had finished his coffee. Jessica's voice was different — not the controlled neutrality she wore in difficult meetings, but something closer to the bone.
"They contacted the bank."
Aaron set his mug down. "Which bank?"
"ABC. The branch where you opened the original account. Someone from Greybridge showed up in person, posing as a compliance officer from a federal review board. They had forged credentials — good ones. It took the branch manager an hour to figure out they were fake."
"But they didn't get anything."
"No. The manager called our legal team immediately. But the fact that they went that far — in-person, forged documents — means they're not going to stop. They're escalating."
