"Aris, can you come here?" A sophomore, Molly Jackson, calls from the other side of the cafeteria. Aris immediately gets up from her table and rushes to her, worried. " What happened, Molly? Did you get hurt or something?"
Molly chuckles a little and answers, "No, silly. Aris, my new friend here, who just transferred to junior year, JW Brown, wanted to see you after hearing me yap to her about how amazing and cool you are." She gestures at the girl beside her. JW's hair is golden brown, and her face is as pale as the moon. Somehow, she seems familiar. But Aris doesn't investigate; instead, she smiles politely and turns to her," Oh, hey there." JW smiles dimly and nods back. Aris also nods, getting the hint that she won't talk with her. "Okay, then. I'll talk to you later?" JW nods slightly, still eyeing Aris.
Aris returns to her table with her friends. "Why did Molly call you?" Flora nudges her when she sat down. Aris shrugs," I dunno. Wanted me to see her new friend. JW? Do you know her?"
Ashley chomps down her food fast. Of course she knows something about her. Ashley and Stella are the queens of gossip, no matter how fresh it is.
"JW is the orphan kid who just transferred here in sophomore year, right?" Her eyes hungry for gossip.
Aris's eyes, along with the others', go wide. They all practically say at the same time, "Orphan??!"
Ashley leans her head back, all attention to her. "Yup, I overheard Principal Maddox talking about her on the phone while I was walking by his office." She says. The rest rolls their eyes at her. Ashley always hears gossip just by walking by- its starting to sound fake now but Ashley never lies about gossip.
Ashley goes defensive, "Heyy. Ok fine so I mighttt have stopped in front of his door because I heard the word 'orphan' when walking by but same thing nevertheless."
Another round of eye-rolls. Which Ashley ignored with an eye roll of her own before continuing.
"Anyway, so I heard him say something that basically told me that the school is nervous about taking an orphan in but she'll stay if she can afford to, which she can- that rule must be applied for everyone."
