Chapter 70 - Chapter 68: The Titan Sets Sail

Chapter 68: The Titan Sets Sail

Three days.

That was all it took for Winter's Heaven to move.

Not in panic. Not in haste. But with the calm certainty of a power that knew exactly what it was doing.

Three days after the ravens had flown, after the councils had ended, after orders were carved into stone and steel, everything was ready. The banners of Winter's Heaven hung proud from every tower, the great forges cooled, the docks sealed, and the people stood watching—not with fear, but with awe.

Because the Winter's Titan was waking.

I stood on the highest observation deck, the cold wind of the far north cutting against my face, my cloak snapping behind me like a living thing. Below me, the sea stretched endless and dark, but it no longer felt untamed.

It felt… claimed.

The Winter's Titan groaned—not like a dying beast, but like a giant stretching after long rest. Deep within her iron heart, the steam engines roared to life, pistons moving in perfect harmony, gears turning with a rhythm that felt almost… alive.

This ship did not sail.

It moved.

The water parted before her like a kneeling crowd.

When the propellers began to churn, the sea itself seemed to hesitate—then surrender. Waves rolled outward in disciplined arcs, not crashing against her hull, but fleeing from it.

I laughed.

I could not help it.

"Hahahahaha… hahahahahahaha!"

My voice echoed across the deck, swallowed by the wind, carried out over the frozen sea.

We had left Winter's Heaven.

And the world was about to remember my name.

The numbers were absurd.

Even after years of command, after armies and wars and kingdoms built from nothing, I still found myself shaking my head.

Ten thousand soldiers—elite, disciplined, hardened by cold, steel, and silence.

Five thousand crew members—engineers, navigators, mechanics, cooks, medics, signalers, and men whose sole duty was to keep the Titan alive and moving.

Fifteen thousand people.

And yet…

The ship felt empty.

I walked for nearly an hour through corridors wider than Winterfell's Great Hall, passing rows upon rows of doors—unused, silent, waiting. Entire districts of the ship lay dormant, lights dimmed, systems idling.

"More than one hundred and fifty thousand rooms," I muttered to myself.

Just the basics.

Cabins. Barracks. Storage. Medical wards. Training halls. Hydroponic gardens. Libraries. Armories that could equip nations.

And we used barely a fraction.

This ship could house one million people.

More, if we pushed her limits.

I stopped before a massive viewport, staring out at the endless water.

"Only fifteen thousand," I sighed. "And still she looks like a ghost city."

A quiet chuckle escaped me.

"Mad," I whispered. "Absolutely mad."

Tom stood beside me not long after, chewing on a piece of dried fish like it owed him money.

Tom.

A fishman.

A being that should not exist in this world—just like half the things in Winter's Heaven. His blue-gray skin glistened faintly under the lights, gills flexing as he breathed, sharp eyes fixed on the sea.

He grinned, sharp teeth flashing.

"Too big?" he asked.

I snorted. "Too perfect."

Tom laughed, a deep, rolling sound. "I told you. If we build it… build it right."

We had designed the Winter's Titan together.

I brought the vision.

He brought the impossible.

Steam technology far beyond Westerosi understanding. Reinforced hull layers designed to withstand icebergs, krakens, and gods alike. Internal water systems, pressure controls, emergency compartments, and propulsion that made sails look like children's toys.

"This ship moves like something else," I said quietly. "Not wood. Not iron. Something… more."

Tom nodded. "She listens."

That was the thing.

The Titan did not creak like a normal ship. She did not complain under stress. Her engines adjusted automatically, her stabilizers compensating for waves before they struck.

She felt… aware.

And she was fast.

Very fast.

At full cruising speed, we were cutting across the sea at a pace that would make the fastest Westerosi fleet weep. At maximum output, we could cover more than 4,500 kilometers without stopping.

Perhaps more.

No sails. No wind.

Just power.

We could not take the direct route.

The seas between Winter's Heaven and White Harbor were not simple. Ice fields, hostile waters, unpredictable currents, and coastlines that would tear lesser vessels apart.

So we went around.

A full round of the continent.

Any other fleet would have taken months.

We took days.

From the bridge, I watched maps update in real time—another miracle of Tom's madness—our position marked by a moving sigil of a direwolf crowned in frost.

The days blurred together.

Training drills echoed through the lower decks. Soldiers sparred in halls large enough to host tournaments. Engineers monitored gauges and valves, their hands blackened with oil and steam.

At night, I walked alone through empty corridors, listening to the hum of power beneath my feet.

The Titan never slept.

Neither did my thoughts.

White Harbor awaited.

The North awaited.

And they had no idea what was coming.

On the thirteenth day, the air changed.

Even before the scouts confirmed it, I felt it in my bones.

Land.

The scent of salt shifted, carrying hints of soil and pine. The sea grew busier—fishing routes, merchant paths, familiar rhythms of civilization.

I stood on the bridge as the forward observers called out.

"Coastline confirmed!"

"White Harbor direction verified!"

Tom tilted his head, eyes narrowing. "We're close."

"How close?" I asked.

"Twenty kilometers."

I smiled.

"Slow us," I said. "Then stop at fifteen."

The officers hesitated.

"My lord?" one asked carefully. "The port—"

"I know," I said, my smile widening. "That's why."

The Winter's Titan slowed, her engines easing with controlled grace. At fifteen kilometers, I raised my hand.

"Stop."

The sea boiled briefly as the propellers ceased.

And then—

Silence.

From the distance, we could see it.

White Harbor.

The greatest port in the North. The pride of House Manderly. A city of stone, ships, trade, and tradition.

And beside us?

It looked… small.

I leaned against the railing, laughter bubbling up once more.

"Hahahahaha! Hahahahahaha!"

Tom joined in, slapping the rail. "Their port can't handle her."

"Handle her?" I wiped a tear from my eye. "Tom, the Winter's Titan is probably bigger than their entire kingdom."

From this distance alone, the Titan's shadow stretched across the sea like a floating mountain. If we approached closer, the displacement alone would tear their docks apart.

No.

They would come to us.

As intended.

Signal flags were raised—ancient Northern symbols mixed with new designs of Winter's Heaven. Steam whistles sounded, deep and resonant, echoing across the water.

Let them see.

Let them wonder.

Let them fear.

I stood tall, cloak settling around me, eyes fixed on the distant city.

"Send the message," I ordered.

Ravens launched from dedicated bays—steel doors opening briefly before sealing again.

Jon Snow has arrived.

Not as a bastard.

Not as a crow.

Not even as a king begging alliance.

But as something new.

Something the world had never seen.

Behind me, fifteen thousand souls stood ready.

Around me, a ship capable of carrying a million.

Below me, engines that could move mountains.

And ahead of me—

White Harbor.

The North.

And destiny itself.

The Titan waited.

So did I.
