~Amelia~
By dawn, the whole pack was filled with murmurs and whispers that made me feel excluded.
My first clue came from the way two older women in the hall went quiet the second I stepped in, and my second clue came from the way one of the supply boys stopped himself mid-sentence and stared at the floor like he had been caught stealing.
The third clue was worse, because Serena caught my sleeve near the kitchen doorway and leaned in with a face that said the day had already gone to hell before breakfast.
“Amelia,” she called, “people are running their mouths about Lily.”
“What? Why? Who?”
Serena glanced toward the hall, then back at me. “A few of the older pack members, and one of the seniors from storage,” she revealed. “They are saying the Vibrius bloodline is a bad omen, and they are saying Lily’s presence is going to pull trouble straight into the territory.”
My jaw set so hard.
“Who started this nonsense?” I asked.
