The gate alarm went off loud and it rang over and over, and warriors ran past me while people yelled from every side.
“Who hit the alarm?” I called out, and I grabbed the arm of the first guard who rushed by.
“Front gate, something crashed through,” he answered, and he pulled free and kept running.
“Do you think it’s alive or dead?” I pushed, and I kept up with him.
“It should be alive but we have to confirm first,” he threw back, and his face stayed tight.
I picked up speed, and my mind ran fast, and one name kept trying to climb up.
By the time I got there, guards packed the gate, and chains hung loose, and a body dragged over the line and hit the dirt.
“Lock it,” one warrior shouted, and he reached for the chain.
“Hold, he crossed in,” another snapped, and he pointed down.
I pushed through them, and I saw him, and heat rose up my spine.
“Of course it’s you,” I went, and I stepped closer, “out of all people, you show up here for like what?”
