The lighting in the cabin was too dim to even make out the man's face. Jack squatted down and shoved food inside. The two silently locked eyes, and the man inside the cage moved his fingers, tapping out a Morse code message.
Go!
Jack looked at him indifferently, his gaze unmoved.
His fingers tapped softly.
In what capacity do you ask me to leave? Ex-boyfriend? Or enemy?
Silence.
Jack stood up, his arms crossed behind him.
Without saying a word, he turned and left.
The man inside the cage couldn't move, watching his retreating figure, his expression hollow and lifeless.
This was a submarine.
Trying to leave was easier said than done.
James asked, "How are the hostages in the cage doing?"
"Most of them are on their last legs," Jack said. "Them dying doesn't do us any good."
