Chapter 376: A Star That Wasn't Mine

----------

"I think your smell, more than anything, is driving me crazy," he said as he kissed her inner thigh in a few sensitive spots, "But, I'm not cruel, as promised, I won't take things too far, unless you change your mind, my sweet faithful Emina."

The tent was warm, almost hot from their shared body heat alone, the deep kind of warmth that wrapped around you and another loved one like a second skin, not an uncomfortable type of heat, no, a type someone wanted to stay inside, the kind that made the world outside feel like a distant memory of a place you've been to long ago.

The thick blankets trapped the heat between them, a comfort that made sleep feel like a luxury for later rather than a necessity for now.

Emina lay curled beneath the layers, her medium-length black hair somewhat messy and fanned out across the pillow behind her head, her breath growing slower and more even as Malik worked his magic . . . .

This tent was for getting a good amount of sleep and sleeping somewhat well and in peace, peace that only came when you were truly, deeply at rest.

Malik, however, was wide awake, his golden-pink eyes gleaming with mischief as he watched her. The lantern had long since been extinguished, but the moonlight filtered through the thick canvas, painting her skin a pale silver and highlighting the soft curves of her body beneath the blankets. He had spent the better part of the evening kissing her, exploring her, the way her body responded to his touch, the way her breath hitched as his hands found her breasts, the way her fingers tangled in his hair as he worshipped every inch of her. And he would have, but he and she wanted and needed more.

So, Now, he was determined to take things further.

Emina's panties were the first thing to catch his attention as he shifted lower again, his fingers tracing the lace at her waistband.

They were simple but elegant, a soft cream color with delicate pink embroidery along the edges, the kind of underwear that was practical but still undeniably sexy. Her future husband admired her, complimenting her and the lingerie she wore in a soft, hot voice. Then he pulled down, The fabric clung to her hips, the way it framed the curve of her ass, the way it dipped between her thighs, hinting at the treasure beneath.

Malik's lips grew into a smile as he took in the sight of her, the way the fabric stretched over her, the way it hugged her curves. He leaned in, his nose brushing against the damp material, inhaling the scent of her, all of it so very warm, musky, hers.

His fingers hooked deeper into the waistband, dragging the fabric down her thighs in one slow, deliberate motion. Emina's breath came faster, her body arching slightly as she let him explore her, her hands gripping the blankets beneath her, her nails digging into the fabric as he revealed her lower half more fully.

And there it was.

Emina's pussy was a revelation, wild and dense, a thick, untamed bush of dark curls, the kind of natural, unapologetic beauty that made Malik's cock twitch with desire, "Very nice," he said, making sure to look up at her, but she avoided his eyes, her face a blaze of red.

"So shy, I promise, I'm a very gentle man," he said, turning his attention back to her sex, taking it in detail.

Her lips were thick, full, a softness that spoke of warmth, of life. The color was deeper than pink, more a dusky brown, a deep hue that made her look even more real, more hers. Malik's breath came in ragged gasps as he took her in, the way her body trembled with need, with anticipation.

He didn't hesitate.

His lips found her, his tongue dragging along the sensitive skin of her inner thighs, the way her breath shook as he tasted her, the way her body responded to his touch. His tongue flicked out, parting her thick lips, finding the slick, warm heat of her, the way her body clenched around him, the way her breath came in ragged gasps as he explored her, as he worshipped her again and again, "I still want more," was all he could say before getting back to 'work'.

Emina's hands found his hair, her fingers tangling in the dark curls, her grip tightening as his tongue swirled in slow, deliberate circles. He teased her, her body trembled with pleasure, with surrender. His tongue dragged along her clit, the way it tightened beneath his touch, the way her hips bucked up, seeking more, needing more.

"Malik!" Emina gasped, her voice breaking, her body trembling with the effort of holding still, of letting him take what he wanted, what she wanted.

Malik didn't let up. His tongue worked in fast, tight circles, her thighs clenched around his head, her heels digging into his back as she rode his face, her body seeking more, demanding more.

He could feel her getting closer, her pleasure building . . . .

And then, with a final, desperate cry, Emina came apart, her body clenching around his tongue, her release soaking his face, her breath coming in ragged gasps as she rode out the waves of pleasure.

Malik didn't stop. He kept licking, kept tasting, drawing out every last shudder until she was a trembling, boneless mess beneath him, her body sinking into the blankets, her breath slow and even, her eyes fluttering closed as sleep claimed her.

Malik pulled back slowly, his face glistening with her arousal, his breath still steady. He pressed a final, lingering kiss to her inner thigh before sitting back, his golden-pink eyes soft with satisfaction, with affection. He watched her for a moment, the way her chest rose and fell with each breath, the way her black hair fanned out across a few pillows, the way her lips curled into the faintest hint of a smile, even in sleep.

"Guess, I'll go to sleep too, no real need to stay up anymore anyway," he said to himself as Sleep came easily.

It usually did whenever Malik was beside someone he loved and any other time too, but that's besides the point.

The little tent had long since gone quiet. Outside, the traveling caravan had settled in for the night. The occasional crackle of a dying campfire drifted through the canvas walls, followed by distant laughter that slowly faded as one more conversation came to an end. Somewhere farther away, one of the caravan's beasts gave a lazy snort before settling back down.

The whole camp had gone still.

Inside the tent, the thick blankets trapped just enough warmth to keep the late night chill away. Emina slept peacefully beside him, curled beneath the blankets with one hand tucked beneath her cheek. Her black hair had spilled even further across the pillows and covers around them during the night, and a few loose strands rested against her face.

She hadn't moved much. She looked comfortable.

Safe too and Malik always liked seeing that.

People looked different when they slept.

The walls they carried all day disappeared. Pride disappeared. Worry disappeared. Even the strongest people became... quieter somehow, even if it was only for a little while.

Emina had always been gentle while she was awake. Sleeping somehow made her seem even gentler. A tiny smile found its way onto Malik's face before sleep finally claimed him completely.

. . . . . . . . . . . . prthaps a dream . . .

Darkness.

Not ordinary darkness.

Dream darkness.

This darkness wasn't empty, and he could even feel it somewhat moving, the kind that felt like it was waiting.

Malik knew dreams.

He knew them well.

Dreams were one of the oldest pieces of his magic. Some of his strongest spells had been born from dreams. Some of his strangest discoveries had happened while sleeping. Sometimes dreams became conversations. Sometimes they became warnings. Sometimes they became memories that didn't belong to him.

Normally...

Normally he could feel himself inside them, he knew he was dreaming, he could shape them. . . . Normally . . . .

Guide, shape, and control them. Leave them.

This time... Nothing.

There was only silence. Then... A light. Far above him. Small. Purple. It looked almost beautiful at first. Like someone had mistaken a star for a flower and tossed it into the night sky.

It drifted.

Quietly.

Almost peacefully.

Malik frowned. Stars didn't fall like that. Not in dreams.

Or at least Not in his dreams. The purple light grew larger. Then larger again. Its speed changed so suddenly that his stomach tightened before his mind understood why. It wasn't floating anymore. It was falling. Fast. Very fast.

The air screamed around it. Clouds tore apart as the brilliant purple object punched through them, leaving a glowing trail across the heavens. Below... A forest. Massive. Old. Ancient enough that the trees looked like they had watched kingdoms rise and disappear. The branches swayed peacefully. Animals slept beneath them. Nothing knew what was coming.

The purple star hit. The world exploded. The sound reached him a heartbeat after the light did. The impact swallowed everything. Trees that had probably stood for centuries disappeared almost instantly. The earth folded inward.

Roots were ripped from the ground like weeds. Stone shattered into dust and sand. A wall of dirt, fire, splintered wood, and glowing purple energy erupted into the sky so violently that the clouds themselves scattered. Even from where Malik stood, he felt the shockwave.

It rolled across the land with terrifying force, flattening everything that hadn't already been destroyed. The forest... Was gone. Not damaged. Gone.

Where towering trees had stood only moments before... There was only a massive crater. Purple light still pulsed from its center. The light was Slow and Steady.. .Almost...Alive.

Malik stared, "What... the . . ."

The word barely left his mouth. Then every bit of light vanished. The dream ended. His eyes opened immediately.

Malik sat upright in one smooth motion, breathing normally despite the sudden awakening.

"...Huh." His voice stayed quiet. Not because he was frightened. Because he was confused.

Very confused. Moonlight filtered through the canvas overhead, painting pale silver across the inside of the tent. The little lantern they'd blown out hours ago sat exactly where Emina had placed it.

Everything was peaceful. Beside him, Emina hadn't even stirred.

She remained wrapped comfortably beneath the blankets, breathing slowly and evenly, completely unaware that Malik had just experienced one of the strangest dreams of his life.

He looked at her for a long moment. "...Lucky."

She made the tiniest sleepy noise. "...Mm..."

Malik smiled. "I know."

Carefully, so carefully that the blankets barely shifted, he leaned over.

His fingers brushed a loose strand of hair away from her face.

"You sleep through everything, don't you?"

No answer. Only another quiet breath. He couldn't help chuckling. Then he pressed a gentle kiss against her forehead.

"Sleep well."

She smiled in her sleep. Just a little. That tiny unconscious smile made his heart feel strangely full. He stayed there another moment before leaning back against the pillows. Then his smile slowly faded into thought. "...That wasn't my dream."

He spoke quietly to himself. Almost thoughtfully. His magic revolved around emotion, memory, imagination, and dreams. Dreams had always felt... familiar. Like visiting another room in his own house.

No matter the dream, Even the strange ones and Even the nightmares.

This...This had felt different. He hadn't been shaping it. He hadn't even been observing it the way he normally could. It had simply...Happened.

Malik rubbed the back of his neck "...Well..." A slow grin appeared. "...That's actually pretty exciting."

Most people would have been worried. Malik was far more curious. If something had managed to slip past all of his dream magic... Then it was something worth investigating.

Something important maybe, He looked toward the closed flap of the tent.

That strange feeling hadn't gone away. If anything... It had become stronger.

Like someone lightly tapping the edge of his mind.

Not a painful or urgent. . .Just...Persistent.

He stood quietly, making sure not to wake Emina.

With a simple thought, the comfortable clothes he'd slept in shimmered with soft pink and golden magic before changing into his usual traveling outfit. The blankets folded themselves neatly behind him as though thanking him for borrowing them.

Malik smiled at the little spell. "I do appreciate good manners." One last look toward Emina.

Still asleep and smiling faintly. He couldn't resist smiling back.

"I'll see you soon." Then, with barely a whisper of magic, he stepped outside into the cool night air.

The entire caravan slept peacefully beneath the stars. Campfires glowed softly like little orange hearts scattered throughout the valley.

Somewhere in the distance, he could hear Kahiko snoring loudly enough that Malik briefly wondered if wild animals had learned to avoid the caravan entirely. "...Impressive lungs," he whispered with an amused shake of his head.

Then his expression settled. He looked toward the distant horizon. Toward the direction of the Hidden Leaf. The strange feeling in his chest only grew stronger. He couldn't explain it. He didn't have evidence.

He didn't have a prophecy or a message to truly follow, Just a feeling. One that his magic didn't seem interested in letting him ignore.

"...Yeah," Malik murmured to himself. "I think somebody's about to need me."

With that, soft pink and golden light gathered around his feet.

A heartbeat later, he shot into the sleeping sky, leaving the quiet valley behind as he flew toward the Hidden Leaf, while somewhere far ahead of him, in a forest he had never seen...

...something purple waited.
