Third-person POV
10:00 a.m.
After clearing another two blocks of the undead zombies, Ichiro's memory of him murdering Shu's Spanish mother and Gen finishing Shu's Japanese father off flashed before his eyes. It happened months ago in Shu's Danchi apartment home in Urayasu within Chiba Prefecture. It burned his retinas like lava. So, after the last flash of PTSD and memory, he stumbled and almost lost his balance on the dust and debris-filled pavement. "I hated myself what Gen-san and I had done to Shu-kun's parents…" he groaned while clutching his temple as if it might explode.
Furthermore, it was also revealed that Shu's father was a former researcher under Gen who disagreed with Gen on the zombie virus, the reason why Gen wanted him gone in the first place. Now both Gen and Ichiro are in guilt towards Shu and became his family to make up for it. This is why Ichiro wanted to be a brother to Shu.
Meanwhile, in the command center of the YKY, Gen burned incense sticks on the butsudan to Shu's parents. He prayed for their souls, asked for forgiveness, and recited his vows to be Shu's family as a lifelong debt to be paid. He also had a weathered photo of his late father and former head of the YKY next to the portraits of Shu's deceased parents: Gīchi Yamashita.
Gīchi was a serious, but kind-hearted man. He, with the same color Gen had inherited from him, was a second-generation yakuza to take the mantle of the YKY, and he was responsible for the present, eccentric red and dark grey camouflage military attire the soldiers of the former bioterrorists-turned-rescue workers now wore. Back then, the YKY were just an eccentric yakuza with strange color palettes and more advanced guns.
But it was revealed that the old man's demise was caused by Gen when the young scientist was greedy for power and to make the zombie virus that still infested the streets of Tokyo. Gīchi didn't like that and demanded Gen to stop that, only to fall for Gen's katana, and Gen took his place as a mad scientist 7 months ago.
Now, Gen regretted it and reflected on his actions greatly. So, he burned 5 incense sticks for his late father, and he bowed his head and did the prayer gesture. "Forgive me, father," he whispered while tearing up badly, "I was foolish to you. You were gone because of me. I had disgraced our family name because of me. I will atone for my sins and clean the biological terror mess I had created myself. And I will be the family Shu had lost because of me.
