Chapter 39 - Chapter 38

# STARK MANSION RUINS — MALIBU

Dawn broke over the Pacific like God spilling orange juice on a very expensive tablecloth, which seemed appropriate given what Tony Stark's house currently looked like—namely, a place where a robot had thrown the world's most destructive temper tantrum.

Tony stood at the cliff's edge, hands shoved in his pockets, staring at what used to be his home and was now a very expensive pile of "remember that time we almost died?" The arc reactor in his chest glowed soft blue through his Black Sabbath t-shirt, a constant reminder that his heart was literally a piece of technology that could probably be hacked by a sufficiently motivated teenager with a laptop.

*Cool. Cool cool cool. Not terrifying at all.*

Behind him, Pepper approached wearing his MIT hoodie over pajama pants that had little coffee cups on them, her red hair pulled back in a messy bun that somehow made her look like she'd just walked off a magazine cover instead of surviving a home invasion by enhanced terrorists and their subsequent neutralization by a homicidal robot with anger management issues.

She slipped her hand into his, and Tony felt that familiar combination of "thank god you're alive" and "please don't leave me because I'm a complete disaster of a human being."

"Beautiful morning," Tony said, going for casual and landing somewhere around "guy trying not to have a panic attack about his destroyed house." "Though I gotta say, the whole 'smoking crater where my living room used to be' aesthetic really ties the place together. Very post-apocalyptic chic. HK should do interior design."

Pepper laughed—that soft, exhausted sound of someone who'd burned through their entire year's supply of adrenaline in one night and was now running on fumes and coffee.

"We can't stay here, Tony." Her voice was gentle but firm, like a kindergarten teacher explaining why we don't eat paste. "Even after repairs, this place will always be... that place. Where Killian attacked. Where I almost died. Where your robot friend decided 'protect Pepper' meant 'destroy literally everything in a half-mile radius.'"

She squeezed his hand. "Plus, JARVIS says the cliff itself might be structurally compromised, which is architect-speak for 'this whole thing could slide into the ocean if someone sneezes too hard.'"

Tony nodded slowly, his brain already spinning up like a hard drive, processing implications, calculating logistics, and definitely not thinking about how his home—his *safe place*—had been violated by murderous assholes with glowing orange blood and bad facial hair.

Nope. Not thinking about that at all.

"New York," he heard himself say, surprising himself with how decisive he sounded. "Avengers Tower. Been putting off finishing it because, you know, commuting between coasts seemed inefficient when I could just video conference in my underwear. But recent events have taught me that 'inefficient' ranks significantly lower than 'not dead' on my list of concerns."

He turned to look at her, and god, she was so beautiful it hurt. "Plus New York has better pizza, and if I'm gonna have PTSD-induced panic attacks at 3 AM, I might as well have access to 24-hour Ray's."

Pepper's expression went soft in that way that made Tony's chest tight—the look that said she saw through all his bullshit but loved him anyway, which frankly seemed like a significant character flaw on her part.

"Avengers Tower," she repeated, and he could practically see her mental checklist updating in real-time. "That's... actually perfect. Close to Stark Industries, proper security, and built to withstand considerably more abuse than our former home apparently was."

She paused. "Also, it's not on a cliff that might collapse."

"That's a plus," Tony agreed. "I prefer my real estate with a lower probability of sudden gravitational relocation."

The sound of footsteps made them both turn to find Harry Potter emerging from his spaceship like a sci-fi character who'd wandered into the wrong movie and decided to just roll with it.

At six-foot-two with the kind of build that suggested "works out but doesn't post about it on Instagram," Harry had that whole "dangerous but polite" thing going on that made Tony simultaneously want to be his friend and also maybe learn some self-defense because holy shit, this guy was terrifying.

His dark hair looked like he'd been doing... well, things that required privacy and possibly some clean-up afterward, and his green eyes tracked them with the kind of focus that suggested he could calculate seventeen ways to kill you while maintaining pleasant small talk about the weather.

"Morning," Harry called out in that crisp British accent that made even "good morning" sound like he was inviting you to a very exclusive party where the dress code was "don't be boring." "I trust the sunrise is adequately compensating for the architectural modifications that may require some creative explanations to your insurance company regarding Acts of Homicidal Robot?"

Tony's laugh surprised him—genuine, not his usual defensive humor. "Potter. Your murder toaster turned my house into modern art, but I gotta hand it to you—Pepper's alive, the bad guys are extremely dead, and I learned some valuable lessons about the importance of insurance riders covering 'Robot Goes Absolutely Ham on Terrorists.'"

He ran a hand through his hair, making it stand up in ways that Pepper would definitely fix later. "Also, you were right. About the suits. The compulsive building. The—" He gestured vaguely at his head. "—the everything. JARVIS spent most of last night showing me graphs of my psychological decline since New York, complete with pie charts and what I'm pretty sure was digital judgment about my life choices."

"The data was quite damning, sir," JARVIS confirmed through Tony's phone, sounding apologetic but not sorry enough.

Harry's expression softened into something that looked like actual human concern, which was weird coming from a guy who could probably benchpress a car while solving differential equations.

"I'm glad you're considering therapy, Tony." Harry's voice had that quality of someone who'd been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, and learned some hard lessons about mental health. "And I meant what I said yesterday—trauma doesn't define you. How you respond to it does. Getting help isn't weakness. It's the smartest thing you can do."

He paused, and Tony saw something flicker in those green eyes—pain, maybe, or memory. "Trust me on this. I've been where you are. The nightmares, the hypervigilance, the need to control everything because the universe proved you can't control anything. Therapy helps. It doesn't fix everything overnight, but it helps."

Pepper looked at Harry like he'd just offered her the cure for cancer, which—fair. Getting Tony to admit he needed help was harder than explaining quantum mechanics to a golden retriever.

"Thank you," she said, and her voice did that thing where it got all emotional and Tony had to look away because feelings were hard. "For yesterday. For sending HK despite the property damage. For talking to Tony about his anxiety. For everything."

She smiled, and it was a little watery. "We're moving to New York. Avengers Tower. Fresh start, better security, and hopefully fewer opportunities for enhanced terrorists to invade our home."

Tony straightened up, feeling that familiar buzz of decision-making energy. "Which brings me to my next question, Potter. What are you and your impossibly hot wives doing now that you've saved the President and redecorated my house through aggressive plasma fire?"

Harry's smile was slow and amused. "Originally, we planned an actual vacation. Sightseeing, cultural experiences, recreational activities that don't involve terrorism or robot combat. The ladies have been remarkably patient about my tendency to turn shore leave into combat operations."

He glanced back at the *Marauder*, and Tony could swear he saw affection in that look. Like a guy looking at his really cool car that also happened to be sentient and armed with enough weapons to conquer a small country.

"The AIM situation was unavoidable," Harry continued. "But now that we've prevented a constitutional crisis and terrified Miami's architectural review board, I intend to actually deliver on my promise of a vacation that doesn't involve saving the world."

Tony's grin was probably too enthusiastic, but screw it. "Right. Here's my proposal—Pepper and I need to get to New York. I could take one of my jets, which are perfectly fine aircraft that normal billionaires use for normal billionaire things."

He paused for dramatic effect. "OR, we could travel on the *Marauder*, which I'm assuming is way more comfortable than conventional aircraft given that you've basically built a flying mansion with impossible physics and probably a really nice espresso machine."

"Two espresso machines," the ship's AI chimed in cheerfully. "And a full bar. And a hot tub."

"See?" Tony gestured at the air. "Flying mansion. Plus, traveling with you means if something goes wrong—and let's be real, in my life something *always* goes wrong—I've got backup that includes cosmic-level firepower, magic, and enough general badassery to handle whatever the universe throws at us."

Pepper stepped in, translating Tony-speak to human. "What he means is, he'd like to travel with you because your ship is cooler than his, your wives are more interesting than in-flight movies, and he's hoping your presence will prevent Murphy's Law from turning our relocation into a disaster movie."

She smiled at Tony. "Also, I think he likes you and wants to be friends, but he's emotionally constipated and can't just say that like a normal person."

"Hey," Tony protested weakly. "I can totally express emotions. I'm expressing one right now. This is me expressing... gratitude. And friendship. See?" He pointed at his face. "This is my friendship expression."

"You look constipated," Pepper informed him.

"That's just my face."

Harry's laugh was rich and genuine, the kind that made you want to laugh along even if you didn't get the joke. "Tony, I'm genuinely flattered. And yes, the *Marauder* is more comfortable than commercial aviation, mostly because we've spent considerable time using magic and technology to make her basically a flying five-star hotel that violates several laws of physics."

His eyes sparkled with mischief. "Plus, my wives are indeed more entertaining than movies, though I should warn you their conversation topics include things like 'optimal plasma configurations for urban warfare' and 'the mathematical elegance of dimensional manipulation,' which might make small talk about weather seem quaint."

Tony's grin widened. "Perfect. When can we leave? I need to coordinate with Stark Industries, call my contractors about the Malibu cleanup, and probably have some uncomfortable conversations with insurance investigators about robot damage."

Harry glanced back at his ship. "We can leave whenever you're ready. The *Marauder's* guest quarters are nicer than most hotels, so if you need time to pack or coordinate, we're not in a rush."

He paused. "Also, the flight from Malibu to New York takes about forty-five minutes at cruising speed, which means you'll arrive fresh instead of exhausted from conventional air travel."

Pepper's eyes widened. "Forty-five minutes? That's—that's faster than commercial jets by a considerable margin."

"The *Marauder* doesn't really do things by conventional margins," Harry said with a smile that suggested he enjoyed breaking physics on a regular basis. "But don't worry—you won't feel the speed. Inertial dampeners make the experience more like sitting in a really nice living room that happens to be moving at velocities that would make aerospace engineers cry."

Tony clapped his hands together. "Right! Give us two hours to pack, coordinate with the company, and have one last conversation with JARVIS about whether staying in Malibu would really be that bad despite the whole 'structural integrity' and 'traumatic memories' thing."

"It would be inadvisable, sir," JARVIS said dryly. "Though I appreciate your continued optimism in the face of geological reality."

Pepper squeezed Tony's hand. "Two hours. That's enough time to get organized, brief Happy about the move, and have breakfast that doesn't involve explaining property damage to authorities."

Harry's expression was warm and genuine. "Perfect. Take your time. The *Marauder* will be ready when you are, and I'm sure my wives are already planning entertainment and conversation topics that will make your journey considerably more interesting than conventional air travel."

As Tony and Pepper headed back to what remained of their home, Harry returned to his ship with obvious satisfaction, while the morning sun painted the Pacific in shades of gold and copper, and the ruins of Tony's mansion stood as testament to the fact that sometimes home defense requires plasma cannons and property insurance doesn't always cover "Acts of Enthusiastic Robot."

Just another morning in the lives of extraordinary people whose understanding of crisis management included provisions for relocation, advanced transportation, and the kind of friendship that survived terrorist attacks, property damage, and very awkward insurance claims.

The future was uncertain, the threats were real, but at least they'd face them together—with better technology, good humor, and the kind of backup that made impossible situations look like Tuesday.

# AVENGERS TOWER — NEW YORK CITY

The *Marauder* descended through New York's morning sky like a very polite UFO that had decided to visit but didn't want to cause a panic, her obsidian hull catching the sunrise and looking gorgeous doing it.

Below, Manhattan sprawled out in all its vertical glory—steel and glass towers reaching toward the sky like the world's most expensive game of Jenga. Among them, Stark Tower stood out by virtue of being aggressively Tony Stark about its existence, all sleek lines and ego rendered in architecture.

The renovation into Avengers Tower was clearly still in progress—construction equipment visible on several floors, the distinctive "A" logo only partially installed, and enough work remaining to keep contractors employed until the heat death of the universe or whenever Tony stopped changing his mind about the design, whichever came first.

Harry stood at the observation viewport, hands clasped behind his back, looking like a protagonist from a science fiction film who'd decided to take a brief vacation in a superhero movie.

Behind him, Tony and Pepper stood together near the windows, their expressions suggesting a complex mixture of "new beginnings are exciting" and "oh god we're starting over from scratch."

Tony's arc reactor glowed through his shirt as he surveyed his tower with obvious pride mixed with what looked like genuine nervousness about this whole "being a superhero with headquarters" thing.

Pepper stood close, her hand in his, providing steady support like she'd been doing since forever because managing Tony Stark was apparently her calling in life.

Fleur moved to stand beside Harry with that supernatural grace that made regular human movement look clumsy by comparison.

"Ze city is quite remarkable," she observed in that French accent that could make reading a phone book sound like poetry. "So much energy, so many people, all compressed into zis vertical landscape zat makes me wonder about fire safety codes and evacuation procedures."

Daphne approached with aristocratic bearing. "It's very American. Excessive, dramatic, completely lacking in subtlety, and somehow managing to be both impressive and slightly ridiculous simultaneously. Rather like Tony himself."

Her ice-blue eyes sparkled with affection despite the criticism.

Susan bounced with scientific enthusiasm. "The structural engineering alone must be incredible! Look at those modifications—that's not just renovation, that's comprehensive facility redesign for operational headquarters including what appears to be advanced laboratory spaces and enough security to handle basically anything."

Her voice carried infectious excitement. "Plus the energy systems—those power signatures suggest arc reactor technology integrated throughout the building's infrastructure, which means this tower probably generates more electricity than most small cities!"

The *Marauder's* AI manifested in shimmering holographic form. "Approaching designated landing coordinates. Tony Stark's private landing pad, penthouse level, thirty seconds to touchdown. All systems optimal, no air traffic complications despite our complete lack of proper authorization or any concern whatsoever for FAA regulations."

Her tone was cheerful, like someone pleased about successfully breaking rules without getting caught.

Tony turned from the viewport with obvious appreciation. "Potter, I gotta say, this has been the most comfortable cross-country flight I've ever experienced. No turbulence, no security theater, no cramped seating, and conversation that actually made the time pass quickly instead of feeling like a hostage situation."

He gestured at the ship. "Also, your ride is absolutely spectacular. JARVIS has been analyzing the *Marauder's* systems during the flight, and I'm pretty sure he's experiencing digital jealousy."

"Indeed, sir," JARVIS confirmed. "The *Marauder's* integration of magical enhancement with advanced propulsion systems represents paradigm shifts in multiple engineering disciplines that would require decades of conventional research to achieve."

Harry's laugh was genuine. "Thank you, Tony. Though I should mention the *Marauder's* capabilities are team effort—Fleur's mathematical genius, Susan's engineering innovations, Daphne's aesthetic sensibilities. It takes a village to build a ship that breaks physics this comprehensively."

The *Marauder* touched down with barely a whisper, her landing systems demonstrating precision that made conventional aircraft seem like they were trying to park drunk.

The boarding ramp extended while morning sunlight painted the penthouse level in warm tones that made even construction zones look inviting.

Pepper approached Harry with obvious gratitude. "Harry, thank you. For everything. For sending HK despite the property damage. For talking to Tony about his issues. For the comfortable journey that made relocation feel less like fleeing and more like choosing a fresh start."

She smiled. "Also, for demonstrating that even cosmic-level operatives can make mistakes regarding personnel management—specifically, assuming homicidal robots understand the difference between 'adequate defense' and 'total architectural annihilation.'"

Harry's expression softened. "Pepper, you're very welcome. Though I have to admit, HK's enthusiasm exceeded my expectations regarding property preservation. That's a calibration issue we'll be addressing through enhanced guidelines about proportional response."

His green eyes held genuine regret. "I'm sorry about your home. The destruction, the memories, the insurance complications that will probably require creative explanation involving Acts of Homicidal Robot."

Pepper's laugh was soft. "The home was just architecture. Expensive architecture with excellent ocean views, but ultimately just stuff. What matters is I'm alive, Tony's getting help, and we're moving forward instead of dwelling on what we lost."

Tony approached with obvious emotion and masculine awkwardness about expressing it. "Potter, I'm not great at the whole 'feelings' thing—Pepper can confirm I typically handle emotional situations through sarcasm and building suits that address my psychological issues through mechanical means."

He paused, struggling with words. "But I want you to know that yesterday's conversation about trauma and therapy... that was important. More important than I wanted to admit, and definitely more useful than any amount of suit building could've been."

Tony extended his hand. "Thank you. For being direct about my issues. For sharing your own experiences. For making it clear that getting help isn't weakness but actually the smart play."

Harry accepted the handshake with obvious warmth. "Tony, you're welcome. And I meant it—trauma doesn't define you. How you respond does. Getting therapy, recognizing your patterns, learning to sleep like normal humans—those are signs of intelligence, not weakness."

His eyes held understanding born of experience. "Also, if you need someone to talk to who understands cosmic-level threats and their psychological implications—someone who's been there and learned to manage anxiety without building robot armies at 3 AM—I'm available for consultation."

Tony's expression showed genuine gratitude. "I'll take you up on that. Probably more often than either of us would prefer, given my talent for turning peaceful moments into anxiety-driven strategic planning."

Harry's laugh was warm. "That's what friends do. We provide support, offer honest criticism, and occasionally prevent each other from our worst impulses through superior reasoning and appropriate concern."

Fleur approached, her hand finding Harry's arm with casual possession. "Also, we apparently provide transportation services zat exceed commercial aviation through creative applications of impossible physics, which Tony is clearly calculating as strategic advantage for future travel coordination."

Her blue eyes sparkled with amusement.

Tony's grin suggested he found her observation both accurate and acceptable. "Guilty as charged. Your ship is spectacular, your wives are more interesting than any entertainment system, and I'm definitely hoping for future opportunities to travel at speeds that make conventional aviation look like a historical curiosity."

Pepper squeezed his hand with obvious affection and resignation regarding his tendency to turn every social interaction into networking opportunities.

"Right then," Harry said with satisfaction. "We'll leave you to your tower preparations, contractor coordination, and probably some breakfast that doesn't involve explaining property damage."

His eyes held genuine warmth. "And remember—if you need anything, cosmic-level intervention or just someone to talk to who understands trauma management through experience rather than theory, you know how to contact us."

Tony nodded with obvious gratitude. "Will do. And if you're ever in New York during your vacation—assuming it doesn't somehow transform into another crisis—you're welcome to visit. Full access, amazing guest quarters, and probably some interesting conversations with other Avengers about cosmic threats."

He paused. "Plus, I'd love to show you the tower's defensive systems once they're operational. Arc reactor integration, automated defense protocols that don't require homicidal robots, and maybe some collaborative innovations if you're willing to share insights about magical enhancement."

Harry's smile suggested he found Tony's enthusiasm both touching and predictable. "I'd be delighted. Though I should warn you that explaining magical enhancement to someone with your engineering background usually results in either revolutionary breakthroughs or complete frustration when the math refuses to behave."

"Frustration is my natural state," Tony replied with delight. "And revolutionary breakthroughs are my specialty, assuming I don't get distracted by panic attacks."

Pepper rolled her eyes with affection. "Come on, genius. Let's get inside before you start sketching enhancement schematics on the landing pad."

Tony allowed himself to be guided toward the tower entrance. "Right! Vacation well, Potter! Try not to save the world more than twice during your recreational activities!"

Harry's laugh echoed across the landing pad as Tony and Pepper disappeared into the tower.

"Well," Daphne observed with aristocratic precision, "that was remarkably touching for someone whose emotional range typically spans from 'sarcastic deflection' to 'engineering obsession' with occasional panic attacks."

Her eyes held genuine warmth. "Though Tony's willingness to acknowledge his issues suggests actual personal growth rather than simple crisis management."

Susan bounced with enthusiasm. "The mathematical probability of Tony Stark voluntarily seeking therapy was remarkably low based on his documented personality profile. This represents significant deviation from predicted behavioral trajectories!"

Val's predatory grin suggested satisfaction. "You're good at that. Making people feel understood without being condescending. Sharing your struggles without making it competition. Offering practical solutions that respect their intelligence."

Her blue eyes held warrior appreciation. "It's actually quite attractive—this combination of cosmic-level power and genuine emotional intelligence."

Fleur moved closer to Harry. "Mon chéri, you 'ave a remarkable gift for making people feel both understood and challenged simultaneously. Tony left zat conversation with both 'ope and clear understanding zat 'is current coping mechanisms are inadequate."

Harry's expression softened with affection. "I just told him the truth. That trauma is normal, getting help is smart, and compulsive behavior won't solve problems that require actual emotional processing."

He looked at the tower. "Besides, Tony's a good guy dealing with genuine trauma through the only tools he knows—technology and compulsive productivity. He just needed someone to point out those tools aren't sufficient for psychological healing."

The *Marauder's* AI manifested with satisfaction. "Passenger disembarkation complete. All systems optimal, departure clearance unnecessary given our complete disregard for aviation protocols, and I'm detecting multiple radar systems attempting to acquire targeting solutions that will prove utterly inadequate."

She practically glowed with satisfaction. "Shall we depart before someone decides to scramble fighter jets?"

Harry laughed as he surveyed his wives—extraordinary women who'd chosen to follow him into impossible situations and somehow made them look routine.

"Right then. Time to begin our actual shore leave. Ladies, where would you like to go first? We have an entire planet to explore and apparently a remarkable talent for turning vacations into military operations."

The response was immediate and enthusiastic:

"Paris!"

"London!"

"New York!"

"Wherever has the best combat facilities!"

The conversation devolved into cheerful debate about vacation destinations, each wife advocating for preferences with enthusiasm.

Harry stood at the center with obvious satisfaction about having nine extraordinary women whose idea of perfect vacation somehow included both recreation and probably some comprehensive demonstrations of why underestimating them was generally a bad idea.

"Ladies, I have a revolutionary proposal—we visit everywhere. Paris for culture, London for shopping, New York for science, wherever Val can find people willing to spar with someone whose capabilities exceed human parameters."

His smile held promise. "We have unlimited time, superior transportation, and apparently remarkable talent for finding entertainment that doesn't require saving the world unless absolutely necessary."

The response was enthusiastic satisfaction about having a husband whose vacation planning included everyone's preferences through superior logistics.

As the *Marauder* lifted from Avengers Tower and engaged cloaking systems to disappear like a technological ghost with excellent taste in dramatic exits, Harry stood surrounded by nine extraordinary women whose understanding of perfect vacation somehow included both cultural exploration and comprehensive romantic coordination requiring privacy and soundproofing.

Below, Tony watched from his windows as the mysterious ship vanished into morning sky, already calculating how long before his new friends' vacation transformed into another crisis requiring cosmic intervention.

But that was future Tony's problem.

Present Tony had therapy appointments to schedule, contractors to coordinate, and a tower to finish renovating.

The future was uncertain, threats were real, but at least he'd face them with better mental health support, superior infrastructure, and friends whose capabilities included both overwhelming firepower and genuine concern for his psychological well-being.

Just another morning in the lives of extraordinary people whose crisis management included therapy, relocation planning, and friendships that survived terrorist attacks, property damage, and very awkward insurance claims.

The game continued, stakes remained high, and everyone was learning that surviving cosmic threats required more than technology—it required psychological resilience, genuine friendship, and occasionally honest conversations about trauma that made conventional therapy look amateur.

But they'd face it together—with superior capabilities, good humor, and comprehensive understanding that even genius-level intellect sometimes required help from friends who understood both cosmic threats and the human psychology necessary for surviving them with sanity relatively intact.

# VANAHEIM — NORTHERN MARAUDER ENCAMPMENT

The smoke rose thick over Vanaheim's northern plains, carrying the acrid stench of burning timber and scorched earth that spoke of systematic destruction rather than simple military engagement. What had once been prosperous farmland now resembled a charnel house painted in ash and desperation, while the distant sounds of battle echoed across hills that had known peace for centuries before the Marauders had decided that pillaging was an acceptable career path.

Lady Sif sat astride T'barr with the kind of warrior poise that made even mounted combat look like performance art conducted by someone who'd been born in the saddle and raised on stories of glorious violence against deserving targets. Her dark hair was pulled back for battle, while her armor caught the morning sun in ways that suggested Asgardian metallurgy operated according to principles that made terrestrial blacksmithing look like amateur hour with safety scissors.

Behind her, Asgard's finest warriors assembled in formations that would have made military historians weep with professional appreciation—cavalry arranged for maximum impact, infantry positioned for optimal support, and enough weapons to conduct comprehensive educational demonstrations about why attacking peaceful populations was generally considered a poor life choice requiring immediate correction through overwhelming force.

Beside Sif, the Warriors Three prepared for battle with the kind of practiced efficiency that came from centuries of fighting together through impossible situations and making them look like Tuesday morning exercises.

Fandral the Dashing adjusted his blade with theatrical precision, his blonde hair catching the light while his expression suggested he found imminent violence both professionally necessary and personally satisfying. "Once more unto the breach, dear friends," he announced with obvious relish. "Though I must say, these Marauders have remarkably poor timing. I had plans for lunch that didn't involve systematic pacification of raiders whose understanding of appropriate behavior appears to have been thoroughly corrupted by poor role models and insufficient childhood discipline."

Hogun the Grim's expression suggested he found Fandral's commentary both predictable and slightly tiresome. "Less talking. More fighting. Marauders burn innocent homes while you compose sonnets about missed meals."

His voice carried that particular economy of language which made even complex tactical situations sound like simple problems requiring immediate solution through superior violence and appropriate follow-through.

Volstagg stroked his magnificent beard with obvious satisfaction regarding the upcoming engagement. "Agreed! These raiders have demonstrated remarkable disrespect for both innocent civilians and my afternoon scheduling preferences. Time to remind them why Asgard's response to systematic pillaging involves comprehensive attitude adjustment through practical applications of superior martial capabilities!"

Sif's eyes tracked the Marauder encampment with analytical precision that suggested extensive experience in tactical assessment and the practical applications of overwhelming force against opponents whose poor life choices required immediate educational intervention.

"The encampment's defensive positioning is adequate but unimaginative," she observed with clinical directness. "Standard perimeter protocols, minimal strategic depth, and what appears to be remarkable overconfidence regarding their ability to resist Asgardian military response."

Her voice carried that particular blend of professional competence and barely contained anticipation for demonstrating why underestimating Asgard's warriors was generally considered a terminal mistake. "We strike from multiple vectors—cavalry to overwhelm their flanks, infantry to establish tactical superiority, Warriors Three to neutralize leadership elements while I handle whatever enhanced capabilities they've acquired through theft, conquest, or remarkably poor judgment regarding appropriate power sources."

T'barr shifted beneath her with eager anticipation, the warhorse's movements suggesting he understood exactly what was about to happen and was professionally enthusiastic about participating in comprehensive violence against deserving targets.

"On my signal," Sif continued with tactical precision. "Fast, coordinated, overwhelming. We demonstrate why Asgard's response to systematic pillaging involves permanent correction through superior martial capabilities applied with appropriate enthusiasm and absolutely no mercy for those who threaten innocent populations."

Her blade gleamed in the morning sun as she raised it high, while behind her, Asgard's warriors prepared for the kind of comprehensive military engagement that would be discussed in tactical briefings for centuries regarding optimal response to enhanced raiders whose understanding of appropriate behavior required extensive revision through practical demonstration.

The signal came—clear, decisive, and absolutely final regarding the Marauders' continued operational freedom in Vanaheim's peaceful territories.

"FOR ASGARD!" Sif's voice carried across the assembled warriors like thunder given human form and extremely poor impulse control regarding diplomatic solutions to military problems.

The charge began with mechanical precision that made cavalry operations look like performance art, T'barr surging forward with the kind of enthusiastic speed that suggested warhorses found combat considerably more interesting than peaceful grazing in meadows that lacked opportunities for trampling enemies.

The battle was about to become educational for everyone involved—particularly the Marauders, who were about to discover that pillaging the Nine Realms brought Asgard's finest warriors to your doorstep with comprehensive lessons about appropriate behavior delivered through methods that emphasized both effectiveness and permanent behavioral modification.

Just another morning in the lives of Asgard's defenders whose understanding of peacekeeping included provisions for overwhelming martial response against systematic pillaging conducted by raiders whose poor judgment required immediate correction through superior violence and absolutely no patience for diplomatic alternatives.

The Marauders were about to learn why threatening innocent populations under Asgard's protection was generally considered the last mistake anyone ever made.

Assuming they survived long enough to appreciate the lesson.
