Massive craters dotted the once-featureless plain, flames still licked across the cracked ground, and powerful residual winds howled through the air. Mega Shiny Rayquaza hovered high above, its divine metallic emerald-and-gold form radiating overwhelming pressure. Its crown-like crest pulsed with raw energy, and its eyes burned with unyielding focus as it stared down at its opponent.
Ash's partner, still in his base form, stood tall despite the accumulating damage. Burns and gashes covered his orange scales, but his tail flame roared defiantly with that signature crimson-purple glow. Ash continued channeling his advanced Aura, blue energy flowing steadily into Charizard to keep him in the fight.
"Charizard, we're not done yet!" Ash shouted, his voice filled with determination. "Give it everything you have!"
Mega Shiny Rayquaza struck first with terrifying speed. It activated Dragon Ascent, its entire body glowing like a falling star as it spiraled downward with meteoric force. The impact was devastating. Charizard tried to brace himself, crossing his arms, but the force was too great. He was slammed violently into the ground, creating a new crater as dust and debris exploded outward in a massive cloud. The shockwave rippled across the barren landscape.
Charizard roared in pain and pushed himself up, wings flaring. Ash poured more Aura into him. "Shake it off! Hit back with Flare Blitz right now!"
Charizard cloaked himself in roaring flames and launched forward like a fiery missile. The Flare Blitz connected solidly against Mega Rayquaza's side. Superheated flames exploded on impact, scorching the legendary's armored scales and forcing a pained hiss from the serpent. The force of the collision pushed Rayquaza back several dozen meters through the air.
Rayquaza countered instantly. It twisted its massive body and unleashed Hyper Beam, charging a thick, devastating orange laser in its mouth before firing it at near point-blank range. The beam struck Charizard's left shoulder, burning deeply and sending him spiraling toward the ground. Charizard crashed hard, skidding across the dirt and leaving a long trench behind him.
"Charizard!" Ash called out, concern clear in his voice but refusing to waver. "Use Roost to recover, then come back with Dragon Claw!"
Charizard spread his wings and glowed with restorative energy, healing some of the worst damage while Mega Rayquaza circled above, preparing its next assault. The moment the recovery finished, Charizard shot upward with renewed strength and slashed with Dragon Claw. His glowing claws raked across Rayquaza's underbelly, drawing sparks and angry roars as deep gouges appeared on the legendary's scales.
The fight grew fiercer by the second. Mega Rayquaza retaliated with Outrage, entering a frenzied state. Its claws, tail, and body became weapons of pure destruction. It slammed into Charizard repeatedly a brutal physical barrage that sent the Fire-type crashing from one side of the battlefield to the other. Each hit landed with bone-rattling force, creating shockwaves that cracked the ground below.
Charizard refused to stay down. He used Air Slash to create razor-sharp blades of wind that cut into Rayquaza's wings, disrupting its flight pattern. Then he closed the distance and unleashed Inferno a swirling vortex of intense blue flames that engulfed the legendary Pokémon. Rayquaza roared in fury as the flames burned across its body, but it broke free with sheer power and countered with Dragon Pulse. Multiple rings of concentrated draconic energy slammed into Charizard, exploding on impact and sending him tumbling through the air.
Ash kept his Aura flowing stronger, the blue energy mixing with Charizard's fighting spirit. "You're matching its power! Use Flame Vortex to trap it!"
Charizard created a massive swirling tornado of fire with Flame Vortex, trapping Mega Rayquaza inside the burning prison. While the legendary was contained, Charizard charged with Dragon Rush, cloaked in draconic aura, and slammed into the vortex with full force. The resulting explosion was spectacular, flames and energy bursting outward as Rayquaza was driven back hard.
But Mega Rayquaza was far from finished. It used Extreme Speed to blur around the battlefield, landing rapid, punishing strikes from multiple angles. One particularly heavy hit caught Charizard in the chest, knocking the wind out of him and sending him crashing down again.
The exchanges became increasingly brutal and fiery. Charizard unleashed Flamethrower in a wide arc, forcing Rayquaza to dodge repeatedly. When the legendary tried to counter with Twister, Charizard met it with his own Hurricane, the two powerful storms colliding in a chaotic explosion of wind and fire that lit up the entire sky. Debris flew everywhere as the ground below shattered further.
Rayquaza broke through the storm and used Dragon Ascent once more. The diving attack connected with devastating accuracy, driving Charizard into the ground with so much force that a new, massive crater formed around him. Dust clouds billowed high into the air.
Ash's face was tense with concentration as he maintained the Aura boost. "Get up, Charizard! We're pushing it to the edge! Use Seismic Toss!"
Charizard rose with a powerful roar. He grabbed Mega Rayquaza mid-charge, spun rapidly in the air, and slammed the legendary down with Seismic Toss. The impact was earth-shaking. Rayquaza crashed heavily, creating another huge crater. For a moment, the legendary struggled to rise, its breathing heavier and its scales visibly damaged.
Ash saw the opening. "Now! Hit it with everything Fire Blast!"
Charizard opened his maw and unleashed a gigantic kanji-shaped Fire Blast. The superheated flames roared forward and exploded against Mega Rayquaza, engulfing it in a massive fiery inferno. The legendary roared in pain as the flames burned deeply.
But then, Mega Shiny Rayquaza's eyes flashed with renewed power. It broke free from the flames with a furious roar and began gathering even more energy.
Ash realized they needed a decisive shift.
"This is it… we need more power!" He gripped the Universal Mega Evolution Keystone hanging around his neck.
"Charizard! Mega Evolve!"
A brilliant, explosive light erupted from both the keystone and Charizard's body. The transformation was dramatic. Charizard's body grew larger and more imposing, his scales turning tough black with blue accents, his wings sharpening into powerful membranes, and two massive fiery horns protruding from his head. Mega Charizard X had awakened a form of pure physical dominance and overwhelming fire power.
With the Mega Evolution complete and Ash's Aura still boosting him, Mega Charizard X let out a thunderous roar that rivaled even Mega Rayquaza's. His tail flame exploded in size, the purple energy of Holy Blaze burning brightly.
The battle between Mega Charizard X and Mega Shiny Rayquaza reached its true peak.
Mega Rayquaza immediately tested the new form with Hyper Beam. The thick orange laser fired straight ahead, but Mega Charizard X powered through it with Flare Blitz, his black-and-blue body cloaked in intense flames as he charged directly into the beam. The collision created a blinding explosion.
Charizard emerged on the other side, slightly scorched but determined, and countered with a powerful Dragon Claw slash that left deep marks on Rayquaza's side.
Rayquaza responded with Dragon Ascent, diving with meteoric force. Mega Charizard X met it head-on with Dragon Rush. The two colossal attacks collided in mid-air with a cataclysmic boom. The shockwave nearly knocked Ash off his feet. Both Mega legendaries were thrown back, but they recovered almost instantly and clashed again claws against claws, flames against wind, roars against roars.
The fight became a fiery, devastating spectacle. Mega Charizard X used Inferno to create a massive burning vortex, then followed with Seismic Toss to slam Rayquaza into the ground. Rayquaza broke free and used Outrage, landing a series of brutal physical strikes that pushed Charizard across the battlefield.
Charizard answered with Hurricane mixed with Fire Blast, creating a storm of fire that engulfed the legendary.
