Chapter 68: War and Love III

King's Landing

Viserys Targaryen

Daemonhold

Viserys could feel the increasing tension in the Red Keep ever since the night the king dreamed. He had once dreamed that his own son, Aegon, would be king one day, yet he knew now that it had merely been a foolish dream and not a true dragon dream like those of their ancestors, or even the king himself.

The king had departed beyond the Wall the day before yesterday to help the foolish bastards there. The ruling, no, the administration of King's Landing itself was under Viserys's command, and he knew it was a heavy duty, one that could only be accomplished because of the truly marvelous bureaucracy created by the king himself. Of course, there were ways to circumvent the position of Master of King's Landing and go directly to the Small Council or the king, but his own status as Prince of the Blood made such interruptions few.

Viserys had gone to sleep that day praying to the gods for protection for his blood.

Viserys woke to shouting outside his door, and he was glad that his own wife and children stayed in the Red Keep rather than in Daemonhold with him. His hand went to the knife hidden beneath his pillow, but he relaxed when he saw his own personal assistant and student, Rodrick Snow.

The boy had the typical features of a Targaryen rather than a Northman, and Viserys had often wondered who his mother was.

"Rodrick," Viserys called curiously.

"My prince." Rodrick bowed as tradition demanded before answering. "Princess Rhaenys has sent a knight calling for you and your immediate presence in the Red Keep. She said it was of the utmost urgency."

Viserys's muscles tensed as his worry increased, wondering what had happened.

Rodrick seemed to know him pretty well, and to Viserys's relief, even without being asked, Rodrick said, "I am sorry, my prince. The matter is not about your own wife or children. I do not know what it is, and even my own sources do not know what it is about."

Viserys nodded as he got up and dressed immediately to make himself presentable.

========================

Viserys arrived at the Red Keep as soon as possible and was promptly escorted toward the Targaryen family room. It was a large room used by the king to hold meetings with the family regarding official matters. He entered the room and saw the queen, his aunt Gael, and Rhaenys already sitting around the table, consuming Arbor Gold. He also saw Aethan Reed, the unofficial Master of Whisperers, even though both The King and Aethan denied it, both Viserys and Rhaenys had come to the same conclusion.

For a man nearing forty, Lord Reed looked ridiculously young, much like the royal family itself. Viserys knew that Daemon was behind it, with his own blessed healing and cures. It was the benefit of getting Daemon's blessing from a young age, since both were in Winterfell.

"Viserys," Rhaenys immediately called. "Have you heard what happened?"

Viserys shook his head in reply.

"It is the Grand Maester who informed us, even with our own Master of Whisperers having immense networks," Rhaenys snapped while glaring at Aethan Reed.

"Princess Rhaenys, I am not the Master of Whisperers, since Maegors's reign there is no official position as such in small council under King Daemon or even your own grandfather," Aethan said earnestly.

Rhaenys snorted at that. "Do not include me in the list of fools, Lord Reed."

She looked at Viserys.

"Anyway, the Grand Maester received a raven from Dragonstone. Benjen Snow has somehow reached there, claimed Vermithor for himself, and flown southwest.

Viserys had not yet sat down when the question ambushed him immediately after he entered. He had been walking toward the chair and almost lost his step upon hearing it.

"What? That is madness and impossible. The previous rider, King Jaehaerys, has only recently died. It is not enough time for a dragon to accept a new one. Anyone who tried would- no should be dead," Viserys exclaimed in surprise. "How in the world could he have done this? Aunt Gael, what is to be done about this betr—

Viserys stopped immediately, changing what he had been about to say.

-matter." Viserys finished with a grimace knowing that voicing about treason from the king's bastard son would be not good for himself.

Gael, who had been observing the room in silence until then, replied, "For all my benevolence toward the bastards of my husband, I always wondered when one would overstep my husband's indulgences and eccentricity. But I never thought the one actually daring to do it would be Benjen. He has more to lose, and he is the cleverest of Daemon's sons. I guess worry toward their own beloved has a way of making any man and dragon do things not thought possible of them."

Viserys's eyes widened in realization, and he saw Rhaenys also coming to the same conclusion.

"Are you saying Benjen bargained with a still sorrowful Bronze Fury with the danger toward Silverwing?" Viserys asked to confirm, even though he understood it easily. Even if Viserys was only a dragonlord for brief amount of time, his dragon was still Balerion and Viserys had learned all the dragonlore available to his house.

"Aye," Gael said with a shrug. "That should be what happened, and I know that was what Daemon wanted too, but not this soon at all. Also, I know how he got to Dragonstone so quickly. It was my own Sheepstealer who gave him a lift there."

"You supported this farce?" Rhaenys asked in surprise.

Gael shook her head. "Of course not. Sheepstealer is free to what she wants and quite fast. I know her general location at all times through our bond, but I am not Daemon, who could use the bond at all times to indulge in entertainment or watch through it, unless Sheepstealer herself tugs for my attention. Benjen could not have done it alone, for Sheepstealer would not do what he wanted. Other than myself and Daemon, only one other person can make her obey, or at least bribe their way into making Sheepstealer obey."

Viserys's face scrunched in concentration as he tried to guess who it was, but he could find an answer.

"It was my son Gaemon who was responsible, and he will be here shortly," Gael said, to a gasp of surprise from Viserys. "Isn't that right, Aethan? You know what happened and allowed it to happen. I never thought Gaemon would be so reckless when I denied his request for sending a dragonrider to Lyanna. Was this under Daemon's order?"

Aethan merely bowed his head.

"I am a humble servant of the royal family, my queen, but I know Daemon well enough to know what he wants. He has not given any overt order regarding this matter, but everyone here was there when he gave his last command to Benjen. He is a clever boy, and he interpreted it how he wanted."

Rhaenys merely shook her head in slight disbelief. Gael just stared at her husband's closest confidante other than herself with visible frown.

"So you choose Daemon's side as usual, Aethan?" Gael asked exasperatedly, with a disappointed laugh.

"What side are you talking about?" Viserys asked incredulously as the tension in the room vanished when the queen simply laughed at what sounded like an almost betrayal.

"The queen is talking about her bet with the king regarding who will marry Lyanna, or at least who Lyanna will choose. The Rogue Prince or Benjen," Aethan informed them with a slight smile.

Rhaenys's eyes widened in recognition before she scoffed.

"This is ridiculous. The girl is not going to choose anyone. It has been years, and the game is still going on."

"You are correct, Lady Hand," Aethan replied. "But fighting together, surviving a battle or near death together, changes you forever, Princess. I should know, as I did the same with Daemon at the Nightfort. We were almost brothers before that, but that night made us brothers in a way nothing before or after it could."

Viserys almost scoffed and wanted to argue against it, but he could not. He had never been in a life-or-death fight in his life until now. He looked at Rhaenys, and there too he could see the uncertainty in her eyes.

Viserys closed his eyes, and his thoughts suddenly went to why his family was in the Red Keep while he stayed mostly in Daemonhold.

He was afraid of the Faceless Men after what had happened to Daemon and Gael. After realizing that the agreement King Jaehaerys had made with The Assasin Sect was violated by their uncle Baelon in attacking Myr for the death of Prince Aemon, Viserys, who had always wanted to learn about ancient Valyria, had read tomb after tomb from everywhere even before he was informed regarding the tombs in Dragonstone that night. He had suspected that the hands behind the Doom were the Faceless Men or some power like that even before that night, and afterward, he had read the tombs and all but confirmed the fact that the Faceless Men had caused the Doom.

Yet his grandfather, and now the king, had angered the dangerous sect, and who was there to protect his family physically other than the king and his unnatural monsters they called the direwolves?

So Viserys had made sure that his two children and wife stayed in the Red Keep under their protection indirectly. Viserys felt gratefulness as well as respect for Aunt Gael and Daemon for this unintended protection against certain death, and his eyes widened slightly as he understood how actually surviving a life-or-death fight could create unbreakable bonds.

"It doesn't matter what the king intended. As of now, Benjen is in violation of a charter that is supposed to be sacred for the stability of our realm," Rhaenys said with cold calculation. "Should we intervene or not, Aunt Gael? That is the question we must answer. Since the Grand Maester received the raven from the maester in Dragonstone, I am sure that the rumor will be spread by the next day about the new claiming of the previous king's dragon."

Gael remained silent for a moment before answering.

"We are to do nothing for now. We will follow Daemon's order as is because we do not know whether there is any danger coming for us from any other directions or methods. We must be wary and cautious. For what it is worth, I am sure that Benjen is not going to do anything stupid with his newly acquired power. He is going to fight in the Sunset Sea or at least protect our ships there. Let the boy do that and Daemon deal with his trouble when he comes back. Aethan, spread the rumor that Daemon flew off to Dragonstone when he left. The direction he went is not known as of now, and we will use it. No one other than us should know that this violation of the First Rule has occurred."

"So you intend to do what King Jaehaerys did with your elopement with Daemon and marriage, to claim that the child had the support of the king in what he did?" Rhaenys said with a snort.

Gael just shrugged. "If Daemon chose to do so."

Rhaenys opened her mouth to argue, but Aethan interrupted her.

"Peace, Lady Hand," Aethan said in a surprisingly soothing tone. "Let us not worry about the aftermath for now. We do not even know whether Benjen will come back alive to worry about punishment as such. If what Daemon and I fear happens, then it would be pretty hard to punish Benjen after such accomplishments."

"What fear are we talking about?" Viserys asked with a snort. "Daemon doesn't fear anything."

"You are wrong, Viserys," Gael said with a sigh. "Daemon does fear many things, and one of them was ever venturing west of Westeros for now. He had informed me about the uncertainty and lingering malicious presence he felt in those seas. So when Lyanna and Benjen survive such a terror and defeat it, it would be pretty much stupid to punish them."

Rhaenys nodded at that.

"Let's hope Lyanna and Benjen survive whatever the attack is going to be."

Gael agreed with a hopeful smile.

The brief amount of silence was broken by a knock from the Kingsguard.

"Enter," Gael bid permission, and the door opened inward.

Viserys knew it would be Prince Gaemon, the eldest son of the king and queen. He turned the chair he was sitting in to look, and he saw Prince Gaemon accompanied by his direwolf, Lupin. Viserys thought it was a strange name, but from what he had heard from Rhaenyra, it was a name from some story the king had made up and told the children over the years.

Both of them were expected, but what was not expected was Gaemon carrying Daenerys with him, with the puny black direwolf following them, which he had gifted to his sister Daenerys when she was born seven months ago.

It was part of the pair of twin direwolves Daemon had gotten from his companion Fenrir and gifted to Gaemon when he was born. One had grown to the size of a horse, while the other had only grown to the size of a street dog. It was a point of speculation among the court why Daemon and Gael had kept the runt of the litter with Gaemon and why Fenrir had not brought any more direwolves.

The speculation had increased drastically when Fenrir remained absent even when Daenerys was born and when the king allowed Gaemon to gift the runt to his sister.

Viserys had been tempted to ask Daemon to make Fenrir return from the forests where he was living because of the troubled times, even though he was now too big to pass through doors, yet Viserys could not bring himself to do it.

"Gaemon, what are you doing with your sister?" Gael asked, her tone laced with mirth. "Do you believe you could escape punishment or scolding because you are holding the baby?"

Gaemon merely shrugged.

"Well, it was worth a try at least. Anyway, I don't see why you need to scold me when I didn't do anything."

"Don't play the fool, Prince Gaemon," Rhaenys scolded.

"My Lady Hand is correct, son. Only you have the ability to make Sheepstealer take Benjen to Dragonstone without my say-so. You gave him the means to claim a dragon, and more than that, it was you who planted the idea in the first place. Do you want your half-brother dead, Gaemon, whether by Vermithor's fury or by your own father's hand for claiming a dragon?"

Gaemon merely snorted and laughed.

"Please, Mother. Father wouldn't kill Benjen at all. The most he would do is exile Benjen in name to Essos and make him work as his unofficial Hand there to conquer it or execute some clever plans there treating it as a game. I want to make sure my sister Lyanna is safe, and I made my move. It is my duty to make sure my family is safe and make sure of it by any means available to me."

Viserys smiled upon hearing that, as he too wanted his family to be safe above all else, yet he frowned at seeing such rebelliousness in a boy.

Gael's smile vanished into serious contemplation.

"Gaemon, you are to remain in your room till I say otherwise. Your intention was in the right place, but you must think about what it means to allow someone to claim a dragon and how it would affect you."

Gaemon opened his mouth to argue, but with a grimace, he closed it.

"Then here is Daenerys," Gaemon said as he walked forward and gave the baby to Gael.

Viserys almost yelled at the careless way the baby was handed over by Gaemon, but he quickly controlled himself, remembering that the baby was not an ordinary fragile child like other babies.

Viserys watched Gaemon exit and looked at the queen, who was cooing at her daughter as the baby made some sounds while laughing. Viserys smiled as well at the happy sight amid the troubled times and slightly shook his head.

It was then that his eyes caught the black, yet unnamed direwolf lying beside Gael. Viserys saw something unnatural in its eyes as the wolf looked around the room while also eyeing Daenerys.

Viserys almost snorted as he came to the conclusion that he was imagining things.

==================================

3 days after the Battle of Sunset Sea.

Lord Jason Lannister

It did affect his pride as a lord and commander of the Lannister fleet that it had taken them three days to organize what remained of their fleet, make repairs by salvaging parts from the more damaged ships, and finally set sail toward the beach where the warg scouts had seen the kraken carcass as well as the dragons. The scouts had reported their findings to Captain Jorah of the Mormont fleet, who had then informed Jason.

Jason had wanted to use his own new temporary flagship, the Lion's Revenge, but it was slower than Captain Jorah's ship. Therefore, Jason was travelling aboard the same ship so they could reach Lyanna and Benjen as quickly as possible.

Jason stood at the front of the ship, staring at the distant beach. From this distance, he could see only a few hill-like structures along the shore that could possibly be the beasts.

"Lord Jason," Jorah greeted as he came and stood beside him.

"Captain," Jason acknowledged before asking, "Have the scouts seen them?"

Jason saw Jorah grimace at the question.

"The scouts could not see anything clearly, as the animals refused to go near at all. We have to venture there ourselves."

Jason's mouth opened slightly in surprise and shock.

"Are we truly that insane, Captain? Venturing toward dragons without knowing the state of their injuries or whether their riders are even alive?"

"Aye, we are. The king needs to be informed, and even without that, if we can provide any help to my lady Lyanna, we will provide it. Do not worry, Lord Lannister. I have seen Lady Lyanna greeted by all kinds of animals, as well as hanging off the king's erstwhile direwolf, Fenrir. I have been before Silverwing countless times, and I am sure they would not attack us. They are far more intelligent beings than people give them credit for."

Jorah paused for a moment, his expression growing more concerned.

"Even without all that, I am sure that if the riders are injured and unconscious, maybe, just maybe, their own minds would be within the dragons."

Captain Jorah's voice carried clear worry as he spoke.

Jason did not respond at all. Instead, he prepared himself for what awaited them on the beach.

==========================

Jason almost vomited when the smell hit his nose as he and Captain Jorah, along with two other men, landed on the beach from their small sailing boat. The carcass of the kraken was half-eaten and almost entirely burnt, but there was still enough of the kraken remaining for it to be the size of Vhagar.

Jason saw the two men accompanying them almost follow behind in fear at the slightest movement from either of the dragons resting nearby.

Jason was astonished by the sight of the injuries sustained by the Bronze Fury and Silverwing. Their wings had clearly been damaged so badly that they could not even fly, and there was still a great deal of blood seeping from their wounds. However, Jason was sure that they had healed somewhat, as he could see their scales had already begun to grow back in many places.

The Bronze Fury, which was lying on the sand in the heat and seemingly enjoying the sun, suddenly moved his neck. Jason saw his eyes staring directly at the four of them.

Captain Jorah immediately raised his hand and stopped them from walking any closer toward the kraken. He held his breath as Silverwing lifted her head from beside the Bronze Fury and looked at them.

After a moment, she snorted and went back to sleep.

The men sighed in relief, and Jason then walked toward the kraken.

What he saw there shocked him even further.

The sand had been melted into glass. There was no decay on the flesh of the kraken, and yet the smell was still there. The kraken was not rotting, yet it was making a nauseating smell.

"Where are they?" Jorah whispered to himself as he looked around.

Jason heard him and also began looking around, but he could not see princess Lyanna, or the king's bastard son, Benjen. They were nowhere to be seen.

The kraken and the dragons were so enormous that they could not take in the entire area at once. They had to move around the beach to determine where Lyanna and Benjen were.

It took them some time to carefully circle around the dragons without disturbing them before they finally made their way past the kraken.

Jason wondered what kind of apocalyptic battle had taken place here. The various wounds covering the kraken's body told the story of a brutal fight. He could see bite marks, claw marks, and burns from dragonfire covering its tentacles and body.

He was further stunned when they reached the place where he could finally see the ruined eyes of the kraken. The eyes of the kraken were so huge that Jason could hardly believe what he was seeing, and he had to shake his head to make sure he was not hallucinating. The kraken's eyes had been ruined by dragonfire, and he could see what appeared to be sword marks and deep slashes from the swords of the princess and the king's bastard.

Jorah merely noted the clever tactic that had been used by his beloved lady in carving through the eyes to the more vulnerable insides of the beast before moving on toward the other side to search for his Lady Mormont. They continued around the kraken, carefully making their way past its enormous body until they finally reached the other side. There, they saw two bodies lying beside the kraken's corpse.

They immediately stopped.

Both figures appeared to be completely naked, their entire bodies covered in blood. The blood and gore had coated them so thoroughly that they appeared to have bathed in red dye, but Jason knew that it was the kraken's blood.

Both of them also appeared somewhat taller than he remembered. They were embracing each other, with Benjen holding Lyanna close enough that her private parts were completely hidden from view.

Jason had not seen Benjen for some time before he came to aid in their battle, but he still wondered when the bastard had grown so tall and muscular since the last time he had seen him.

Before they could approach any closer, Vermithor suddenly moved his neck and raised himself from the sand. All four of them froze at the same time. Both Jason and Jorah began taking off their cloaks to cover the king's children.

The dragon immediately breathed fire toward Lyanna and Benjen, engulfing them completely. For a moment, Jason and the others panicked before remembering that the current generation of Targaryens was resistant to extreme heat.

Jason and the others stepped back three paces and tried to see through the burning fire at the bodies inside it, but it was impossible.

"How can this be possible?" Jorah murmured in wonder, intriguing Jason.

"What can be possible, Captain?" Jason asked immediately.

"Lord Jason, the dragons came quite near death's door with their injuries. Look at the kraken's state, even with the dragons consuming it. So where are the injuries suffered by Lady Lyanna and Benjen Snow?"

==========================

Benjen Snow

Benjen woke with a startled cry as he suddenly rose into a sitting position from where he had been lying before. He breathed heavily twice and could feel the dreams he had been having vanish as his mind cleared of all fog more quickly than ever before.

He looked around and was happy to see that he was inside a tent, and the bear symbol on it made it clear that it was Lyanna's. Benjen did not know how much time had passed or where he was. His heart started thundering with worry, and he prepared himself for any attack as he looked around for his beloved Lyanna. He quickly sighed upon seeing her in a nearby temporary bed.

He quickly stood up, and the cloak that had been hiding his nudity fell down. He could only take one step before he lost his footing by making a mistake.

Bewildered, he looked down at his legs and his own body.

Benjen almost panicked upon seeing the increased muscles on his body and his taller legs. He quickly found Winter Rose, his Valyrian steel sword, and found that the sword appeared to be smaller in his hands.

"Fucking hell," Benjen muttered as he realized that the ritual of bathing in the kraken's heart's blood, as well as eating it, had consequences beyond merely healing both Benjen and Lyanna.

He looked down at his body and could still see the gore and crusted blood, even though much of it appeared to have been burnt away. He grimaced at the evidence of bathing in brain matter, blood, and all manner of disgusting things that still remained on him. Even dragonfire had not been able to burn away everything.

"That is quite a sight to wake up to, even though I prefer a cleaner body," Lyanna said with a snort from her bed.

Benjen turned around and sat down on the floor to hide his nudity while instinctively taking the cloak to cover his body.

Lyanna started laughing at that.

Benjen froze for a second before he too started laughing at the situation.

"You are also fully healed, right?" Lyanna asked as her laughter came to an end, leaving a mischievous grin on her face.

Benjen grinned and nodded enthusiastically.

"Aye, Lyanna, that it did. Seems like whatever ritual Vermithor showed me worked its magic."

He paused as his mind went to Vermithor for a heartbeat, checking on the dragon quickly. It was very fast, and he immediately grimaced.

"Though it seems our dragons are not at all in any state to fly, they are still healing and in pain. Also, I got to know that it has been three days since the battle, and we have to finish eating the kraken on the seventh day," Benjen said.

Lyanna's grin vanished as her face twisted with slight disgust before she shook her head.

"Well, let's get clean now and then do what is needful."

=======================

There were some men's clothes laid out in the tent, and both Benjen and Lyanna wore them as they got out of the tent. The first thing Benjen saw was that the tent was surrounded by dragons and that their men were nowhere nearby. He saw another tent with a Lannister lion some five hundred meters away.

Benjen looked at Lyanna and shook his head while looking at the slight commotion near the Lannister tent as men stared and pointed toward their tent. Benjen looked toward the ocean, and Lyanna nodded.

Both of them ran toward the water to immediately get clean.

The moment the seawater touched Benjen, he felt a slight jolt of energy, and the bone-deep tiredness he had not even known he had started vanishing. He looked at Lyanna and could see that she was experiencing the same thing.

"That is new," Lyanna whispered in slight wonder before grinning at him and jumping into the water, swimming against the waves toward deeper waters.

Benjen immediately followed, and he felt more satisfaction when the water started cleaning his body of the grime, soot, and blood. He quickly realized that his sense of smell had been so overwhelmed until then that the water seemed to have cleared it.

Since this was a beach where there was no settlement, the waters had plenty of fish, and even while swimming, he could feel them brushing against his body while trying to avoid path.

Finally, he caught up with Lyanna, who was floating while trying to clear her hair of the accumulated filth. Benjen too followed her lead and began trying to get the filth out of his own hair.

======================

Benjen looked at the roasted kraken meat as he sat beside Lyanna, with both of them consuming what their bodies allowed. He smirked slightly at the bewildered expressions of their men—no, he corrected himself, Lyanna's and his father's men.

Benjen's smirk vanished as he wondered what would happen to him now that he had survived the battle and had to face the consequences of going against the Iron Throne's charter.

Benjen smiled as he saw Lyanna laughing while teasing Captain Jorah, whose face curled in disgust as he tasted the kraken meat.

"My lady, why are you consuming this?" Lord Lannister asked from beside them.

Lyanna looked at Benjen for a moment before she started telling them what had happened and how the battle had ended.

"You may be a traitor to our King Daemon, but you have my thanks for helping my Lady Lyanna, Krakenslayer," Jorah said reluctantly, even though there was respect and fear in his eyes.

Benjen merely snorted in derision.

"There is no need for you to worry about me, Captain. Whatever happens, it is between me and my father, not something that is going to affect you or your men. Lyanna and I have to stay here for four more days to finish the ritual that blessed us for slaying such a beast. Only then will our dragons be fully healed and back to flying health."

Captain Jorah nodded at that.

"Enough of this matter," Jason Lannister said. "It does not matter to us what the king will decide later. We have to decide what we should do now that the Ironborn have broken the king's peace. Our fleet cannot be used for our original purpose in the Dornish invasion, and we cannot leave our own shores undefended against any attacks from the rest of the Iron cunts. Lord Benjen, you are the king's right hand, and you came from King's Landing with the latest information. We are yet to receive orders from the king or anyone from the royal family regarding you. What is to be done about the Ironborn?"

Lyanna scoffed from her seat.

"What is there to be done other than the complete subjugation of the Ironborn? It is time they learn the folly of attacking us and end their reaving ways forever."

Benjen nodded with a slightly bloodthirsty grin.

"Fortunately, the king is also of the same thought if the Ironborn get out of line during the current Dornish situation. The king would have actually acknowledged the Hoare bastard as Lord of the Iron Islands if the man had actually gone to attack Dorne as instructed. Now he has tried to attack us, and more than that, he has tried to kill a dragon and the king's own daughter. There is no coming back from this.

"Lyanna and I will use birds to send messages toward Casterly Rock and Bear Island to prepare the second set of ships for an Iron Islands invasion. We will rest for these four days while the surviving ships are repaired further. Then we will attack the islands."

Jason looked intrigued but slightly paled at the thought.

"Isn't it too soon?" Jason asked.

"If it was only ships, it would be," Lyanna interrupted. "Jason, you will have two rejuvenated dragons and their riders on your side then. The kraken's heart did far more than just heal us. We must finish what we started before the Hoare bastard can find another kraken or any monster of the deep oceans."

Benjen nodded in agreement as his eyes wandered toward the setting sun in the distant ocean. His mind, his warg sense, had increased drastically since his awakening, and he could feel the aquatic animals more clearly than earlier. Yet his instincts warned him away from ever venturing deeper into the Sunset Sea, and he could feel that something worse was going to happen.

For a moment, he hoped that his own premonition of danger was because of whatever his father would punish him with rather than what was waiting in the Sunset Sea.

He shook his head to clear his thoughts and looked at Lyanna, who caught his eye and smiled at him.

At least he would not be alone to face whatever was happening, and he would not be dying a virgin.
