Chapter 264: Prepare to Die
Zhang Yang glanced at her and shook his head. "No. The more people move, the more noise we make."
Before she could continue, Zhang Yang quickly instructed Lao Yi: "Lao Yi, after I leave, fire one shot toward their hiding spot every minute. Draw their attention. And remember…" Zhang Yang raised the Bluetooth device in his hand, saying, "Unless I give new orders, shoot two rounds every minute."
With that, he swiftly exited the vehicle.
His move was risky—if the enemy discovered him, it would be a death sentence. But staying put meant they wouldn't last until reinforcements arrived. The anti-sniper acoustic system could locate the shooters, but the enemy was not stationary. Stalemate wasn't an option. Worse, if the enemy had a sniper rifle… things would get ugly.
Before Tang Qiqi and the others could react, Zhang Yang disappeared into the fog like a rabbit.
"Boss…" Lao Yi whispered, but it was too late. He cursed under his breath, then fired a shot toward the enemy's hiding place. Immediately, four to five shots were fired back.
"You bastards! Come down here if you've got guts!" Lao Yi shouted from behind the car wheel.
Tang Qiqi frowned slightly but said nothing. She knew Lao Yi was deliberately drawing enemy fire to buy Zhang Yang time. Staring into the direction where Zhang Yang vanished, she suddenly felt uneasy. He was skilled, yes—but he only had a dagger, and Spade Eight likely had three or four guns. Could he succeed?
"Bang! Bang!"
Time passed slowly. Lao Yi fired two more shots.
The enemy, likely unsettled by Lao Yi's accuracy, fired a few shots back—then silence fell again. Neither side made another move.
Both sides were waiting. Lao Yi waited for Zhang Yang. The enemy…
At this moment—
Less than forty meters from the Land Rover, three men in black jackets lay hidden behind a large boulder. Their faces were grim. The man in the middle checked his pistol, his expression darkening. The other two watched him anxiously.
"Boss, damn it… looks like they were prepared."
Before the words faded, another gunshot rang out, striking the boulder and sending dust into their mouths. They nearly coughed out loud but held it in. A cough would reveal their position.
"Shit!" All three cursed silently. Lao Yi was terrifying—this blind firing was more accurate each time. Without the boulder's cover, one of them would already be dead.
Before they could finish cursing—another gunshot. Then a scream.
"That was Old Four…" the leader's face tightened. "How the hell is that guy so good? We've already changed positions several times. How does he track us? It's like he's watching from the sky! We hide—his bullets follow! Fuck! FUCK!"
Another gunshot cut him off. The bullet slammed into the stone above their heads, rattling their skulls as they flattened themselves to the ground.
Who was ambushing whom? The man with one handgun was hunting five men with guns.
Another gunshot. Another scream.
"Old Seven?" The leader stared at his remaining two men in disbelief. "How the hell are we supposed to fight this? Did Old Four and Old Seven both get killed?!"
What kind of marksmanship was this? Damn!
"Old Five, go check on Four and Seven." The leader couldn't sit still anymore. If the shooter could hit them behind cover, the next bullet might go through the rock.
Old Five crawled away. The leader and the last man immediately moved to a new position.
They barely settled when another crisp gunshot rang out.
"Bang!"
Old Five screamed—and then silence.
"This is wrong. Boss, this is seriously wrong." The man beside the leader finally panicked. The fog was thinning but visibility was still terrible. How was the enemy pinpointing their exact locations?
"I know!" the leader hissed. "Some masters can judge direction from gunshots and flashes—but no one is THIS accurate! And Old Five didn't even fire! How did he know—damn…" His expression changed. "Zhang Yang must have closed in!"
"A bit clever… but you realized too late."
The moment he finished speaking, a cold voice sounded behind them.
"Zhang Yang?" The leader instinctively raised his gun—but before he could aim—
"Bang!"
A gunshot.
Pain exploded in his wrist—Zhang Yang had blown apart his gun hand. And the gun Zhang Yang used?
Anyone with half a brain could guess.
Old Eight, beside him, tried to react—but froze when a black muzzle pointed straight at his head.
"You're from the Green Group?"
The leader, clutching his destroyed hand, grimaced in pain. But hearing Zhang Yang's words made him pale. "How… how do you know?"
"You're Shaoying, right?" Zhang Yang said, staring at him. Years ago, of the four who accompanied Tang Duan to Green Peach Hotpot, two images were captured on surveillance—the Yellow Group leader, You Long, and the Green Group leader, Shaoying. The footage was clear. Now, seeing the skinny man with the hooked nose, Zhang Yang recognized him instantly.
The moment Shaoying heard this, he completely lost his composure. How did Zhang Yang know more than even he should?
"How do you know?!"
"Doesn't matter how. The question is—do you want to live or die?"
"Hah… joke. You know our rules. A killer who fails a mission and reveals his identity already knows his fate. What's the point of talking?"
"So you choose death?" Zhang Yang's eyes turned razor sharp.
"Fuck you. Who do you think you are—" Old Eight suddenly snapped.
Before he finished—Zhang Yang raised his gun and shot him in the throat. Then fired two more shots into his chest.
"Too much nonsense."
"You…" Shaoying stared at Old Eight, who was kicking and choking on the ground. His own hand throbbed, and his chest tightened. He had brought half the Green Group's elites to execute a perfect ambush—kill Zhang Yang, remove Spade Eight's thorn, and eliminate the troublesome Tang Qiqi. But in less than thirty minutes, five men—four dead, one injured. Their "perfect ambush" was obliterated.
Completely annihilated.
Months of planning. All Green Group's manpower. Countless resources. And now—the worst possible outcome. It was unreal.
It was a disaster.
Zhang Yang pointed his gun downhill, where the slope led off the mountain. "Move. Or do you want me to kick you off?"
"Zhang Yang!" Shaoying, despite the ruined hand and blood dripping down, still held himself like a man. He stared coldly. "My brothers all died by your hand. One more won't matter. Give me a quick death. But don't think you've won. Even if I die here today—you'll accompany me soon enough!"
"Oh right—I nearly forgot. There are three more waiting for me ahead, aren't there?"
Shaoying snorted. Which meant: yes.
"I know. I heard your Green Group has a top sniper—Green Scorpion. Ranked second in the group. A woman. Supposedly beautiful." Zhang Yang smiled. "How about I fuck her before killing her?"
Shaoying's expression changed instantly.
