"Really? What are you talking about, what bastard?" Xu Dantong saw him mumbling to himself on the balcony and couldn't help but curiously walk over, holding a bottle of milk tea in her hand.
"Hmm…" Zhang Yang leaned on the balcony railing. Outside was bulletproof glass one and a half centimeters thick, but the window was open because it was winter.
Since the villa was near the sea, the wind was quite strong. Even though there was a wall blocking it, the fourth floor was still pretty chilly.
"I was saying, you always keep the window open. Don't you get cold at night?"
"No, I close it at night." Xu Dantong frowned slightly and walked to his side.
She set the milk tea on the railing, then leaned beside him, crossing her hands on the rail.
Her long white legs bent casually, looking just like a beautiful young wife standing by the window with her husband. The faint girlish fragrance on her body drifted through the air, teasing Zhang Yang's senses and making it hard for him to stay composed.
"I see." Zhang Yang tapped his finger rhythmically on the railing, thinking about how to bring up the peeping incident. Saying it directly felt awkward—she wasn't like Gao Qi.
But being too indirect would seem pretentious.
"Uh, you usually get up pretty early, right?" Zhang Yang thought maybe he should learn Advanced Communication Technique from the system. After asking that, it sounded even weirder.
Sure enough, Xu Dantong's beautiful face now showed a big question mark.
She bit her lower lip, tilted her head, and squinted her big eyes at him curiously. "Brother-in-law, what exactly do you want to know?"
"It's like this, uh, you…" Zhang Yang glanced toward the bathroom window—it was facing that direction, but clearly, it was just a small ventilation window, covered with anti-peeping glass and dark film. Still, she could've opened it.
"Do you usually shower in the morning?"
"Hmm?" Xu Dantong obviously didn't catch that—or maybe she did, but thought she misheard. Why would her brother-in-law ask something like that?
"I mean, do you have the habit of showering early in the morning, say around dawn? It's refreshing, right?" Zhang Yang laughed awkwardly as he spoke quickly, then looked at her. Her straight black hair still carried a faint fragrance—it seemed freshly washed.
"So, Brother-in-law, are you asking if I showered this morning?" Xu Dantong's face flushed slightly. She pulled her hands back from the railing, not knowing where to put them. Why was her brother-in-law asking that?
She'd heard that before doing that kind of thing between a man and a woman, they'd bathe first. Wait—could he… could he be planning something?
Her eyes widened instantly. She waved her hands in a panic and shook her head. "No, no! Even though I wake up early, I don't like morning showers. One, I'd dirty the bed if I sleep without one. Two, I sleep better after showering at night… yeah, that's it."
After speaking, she quickly grabbed the milk tea, opened it, and took a sip to calm her nerves.
"Oh, that's good." Zhang Yang nodded, relieved. If she didn't shower in the morning, then she wasn't completely naked when the peeper struck—maybe just changing clothes early in the morning.
That thought eased his mind a little… but if she liked to sleep naked, that'd be another issue.
"Then… can I ask another question?" Zhang Yang said hesitantly.
Hearing that, Xu Dantong looked at him, bottle in hand. She hesitated, thinking, Oh no, Brother-in-law must've thought I rejected him indirectly earlier, so now he's trying another angle. Brother-in-law, I admire you, but not enough to throw myself at you.
Yet seeing his expression, she couldn't bring herself to refuse. She bit her lip and whispered, "Ask away, Brother-in-law."
"Well, I know it's a strange question, but… do you like sleeping naked?"
"Pfft!" The mouthful of milk tea Xu Dantong had just taken sprayed out, splattering her clothes. She turned to glare at Zhang Yang in shock. "Brother-in-law… why are you asking that?"
Seeing her reaction, Zhang Yang was startled too. Thinking back to what he'd said, he wanted to slap himself. Damn, what kind of question was that?
"Wipe, here, wipe it first." Zhang Yang grabbed a box of tissues from the room and handed it to her, hurriedly explaining, "You've definitely misunderstood. Let me put it this way—you know a bit about that surveillance system Danying built, right?"
"You mean that Magic Eagle Eye Surveillance System?" Xu Dantong asked, starting to think maybe she'd misunderstood him.
"Yeah, that one." Zhang Yang pointed toward the spot outside the balcony where the peeper had been standing. "At 6:38 this morning, the system detected a pervert peeping toward your room. He stayed there for about ten minutes… doing some pretty disgusting stuff."
"Oh? So you were worried I might've been sleeping naked and got seen?" Xu Dantong said.
Suddenly, she understood. She'd totally misunderstood him earlier. He wasn't trying to make a move on her—he was actually worried about her being peeped on.
"Yeah." Zhang Yang nodded. Seeing her expression soften from shock to calm told him just how bad her misunderstanding had been.
"Hehe, thank you, Brother-in-law. Don't worry, I never sleep naked. Plus, this villa's ventilation system works great. I always close the windows and curtains before bed."
"Ah! You're sure?" So she wasn't the one being seen… then what the hell was that guy looking at?
Damn.
Couldn't be that he was just staring at the villa at dawn, jerking off in the freezing cold for nothing.
"Hmm." Xu Dantong tilted her head, thinking. "But, I do wake up early. After getting dressed, I opened the window for some morning air. I wanted to go up to the fifth floor, but it's closed off because of the construction, so I stayed on my balcony."
"As for the peeper, I didn't notice anyone. But yeah, the time I was on the balcony matches what you said—around 6:30."
"That fits. The guy appeared right around when you were outside." Zhang Yang felt relieved. The guy hadn't seen anything, thank god. Still, he was annoyed—just seeing his beautiful sister-in-law from afar had been enough to make that creep jerk off.
That showed how pent-up those construction workers were from nonstop work. If it went on, he worried one of them might do something worse someday.
On the other hand, it also proved his sister-in-law was stunning. As they say, beauty brings trouble—she was just too damn beautiful.
Just then, Old Yi called, saying they'd found the peeper.
Zhang Yang glanced at Xu Dantong while answering. "Got it. Don't touch him yet, just come back."
Since the guy hadn't actually seen anything, he kind of pitied him. Just a word to Zhou Lunfa would do.
"Brother-in-law," Xu Dantong came over after he hung up, "can I ask you something?"
"Hmm?"
"Can you drive me somewhere later?" Xu Dantong looked at him a bit shyly. "I want to buy something."
"Sure, I'm free today anyway. What do you need? I'll get it for you."
"Really? Then… two packs of pads." Xu Dantong bent slightly, embarrassed. "Or maybe… could you also get me some panties? This morning…"
She pointed toward the balcony, embarrassed. "When I went out earlier, I think they got blown away by the wind."
