Li Xinyuan noticed the subtle shift in the air around Bai Huiqi before his smile could fade.
Worry gnawed at him as he shifted from one foot to another and cleared his throat slowly. "Huiqi."
The four-tailed fox's head snapped up, the haze in his eyes clearing slowly. "Huh– yes?"
"Sit still, I do not have the whole day for this. We are applying the salve and changing your bandages."
Bai Huiqi nodded absently, shuffling closer to the edge of the bed, the need to struggle long forgotten. And now without his stubborn refusal to let Li Xinyuan see the scars on his body, the doctor was able to make quick work of undoing the bandages.
As the burn scars came into view slowly, Li Xinyuan fought to keep his composure, hands shaking while rolling up the used bandages. "Do they hurt?"
Bai Huiqi closed his eyes, face buried in his folded arms under his head. "No. They do not."
