At the very last second of the game's countdown, Damian arrived at the Wayne Manor base. But standing at the entrance, he hesitated for a long time, not daring to go in. This Wayne Manor was completely different from the one in his memory.
It's not that it was different from the Prime Universe's Wayne Manor. Damian had a great memory. Even though he was very young the last time he came to this universe, just having returned to Batman's side, he remembered that this universe's Wayne Manor was a grand and luxurious estate, unlike this illegal building before him.
The outside of the manor was lined with horse barricades, which was fine. The doors and windows were nailed shut, not surprising given the defensive needs. But what was the point of stacking two matchboxes on top of the Gothic spire? It made Wayne Manor look less like an estate and more like a fort.
And there were several hilltop kings leaning on the edge of the matchboxes, waving at him with laughter. Damian flicked his cape, his claw hook gun grabbing the edge of the wall as he leaped up.
"What are you guys doing?" he said, "Is this right?"
"Of course," Nightwing nodded and said, "The high ground tactic is universal. Knowing this day would come, we should have built Wayne Manor up to twenty stories."
"That would be the Wayne building!" Damian rolled his eyes.
During the time Damian hadn't arrived, his three brothers moved quickly, not only setting up simple defensive facilities but also adding height to Wayne Manor using copied blueprints, building walls and a Watchtower above to deal with the incoming monsters.
As Damian exchanged these few words with them, vague figures began appearing in the fog. Red Hood immediately pulled out his gun, "Prepare to open fire!"
Several people immediately ascended to the Watchtower above. Nightwing used binoculars to look closer, revealing humanoid monsters with bat wings approaching in the fog, similar to Man-Bats but more terrifying.
These monsters had huge bat wings, bulging muscles, and grotesque fangs. More absurdly, they wore Bat Equipment imprinted with the Batman logo. Besides armor, they were equipped with long-range weapons, including guns and Batman darts.
"Hiss..." Red Robin inhaled sharply. They had just discovered that the Southern District's leader was a mutated version of Batman. But the problem was, in this universe, would Batman make Bat Equipment?
"Brainiac!" Red Hood also shouted, "Batman doesn't even have a Batcave, where did he get machines to make these? Does this make sense?!"
"I have my own background setting," Brainiac said nonchalantly, "You'll know once you complete the missions and push the storyline."
Red Hood secretly gritted his teeth. But Red Robin quickly adjusted his mindset and shouted to his companions, "Relax, at least the ones coming aren't angels..."
"Just shut up!" Damian couldn't hold back anymore, because from his angle, behind the group of monsters with bat wings, there seemed to be a group with angel wings. Then beyond them, there seemed to be a group resembling Dark Dragon Barbatos.
"Enemy attack!!!" Nightwing put away the binoculars, raised a sniper rifle, and directly aimed at the bat monsters firing against the horse barricades.
"Bang!"
A shot. The large-caliber sniper bullet pierced through the chest. The bat monster indeed retreated, struggling painfully, but was not dead yet. Nightwing immediately followed with another shot to the head; with a bang, the head exploded into a spray of blood before finally hitting the ground.
"Aim for the head! Aim for the head!" he shouted.
Red Robin also held a sniper rifle, but its caliber wasn't as large. He initially shot the chest too, but it only caused a stopping effect. He also switched to headshots, but some monsters wore helmets. He shot at the head, breaking the helmet, but the monster was still alive, forcing him to take another shot.
Red Hood, holding an ordinary rifle, saw this scene and directly abandoned his gun, tossing out a grenade that exploded with a bang, blowing at least three or four monsters away.
"Use explosive devices!" he shouted, "First push them back!"
Various explosives began to be thrown down. Damian and Red Hood were the main force, while the remaining two used sniper rifles for cover, quickly repelling the first wave of assault. But the troublesome thing was that this attack was far from over. By looking at their personal terminals, they could see a progress bar. Judging by the progress, this attack consisted of at least five waves, and their explosives were already running low.
"Let's go down," Nightwing gritted his teeth and said, "We have more shotgun shells, use the shotguns."
The ability to gain the upper hand and repel the first wave was already a pleasant surprise; they hadn't intended to keep sniping up there all the time. The group began to move behind the horse barricades.
Getting down made the monsters appear even bulkier, each over two meters tall, with wings spreading about the same. Fortunately, their Bat Equipment was scattered, some wearing helmets, others wearing chest armor, but not fully equipped.
"Wait a minute!" Red Hood suddenly shouted, "This equipment can be picked up!!!"
"Quick, quick, quick, attack the one with armor!" Red Robin shouted, "Over there, that one in Metal Armor, make his armor explode!"
When it was discovered that monsters could drop equipment, the nature of the game changed. Those troublesome armors instantly became gold-glowing treasures. Those fully armed tough bones, which everyone was reluctant to tackle, became the focus of concentrated fire.
Red Hood rolled over, picking up the helmet armor that had fallen earlier. As soon as he had it in his hand, the terminal popped up the equipment data. Unfortunately, after being hit by a sniper bullet, this helmet was already in a damaged condition. Although it could be repaired, it seemed they needed to build a repair station or something. Red Hood took a look and saw it could be dismantled, so he dismantled it directly.
"Smoke bomb, Damian!" Red Robin shouted. Damian crouched behind cover, blindly throwing a smoke bomb, but he threw it very accurately, enveloping the monster that had a complete chest plate and helmet.
Nightwing hid behind a wall, poking his head out to give the monster a shot. Taking advantage of the smoke bomb interfering with the monster's sight and preventing them from firing, Red Robin rolled and approached, firing a shotgun blast at the monster's wing.
He also realized that if the equipment was damaged in the attack, the dropped equipment was also damaged. So they had to adopt a strategy that attacked the monsters without damaging the equipment.
Red Robin carefully observed that although the monsters' limbs were thick, their structure was completely unsuitable for walking. All their mobility depended on their wings, which had no protective equipment. As long as they were shot down from the sky, their movement speed would become very slow.
Exactly as expected. The shotgun completely ripped the monster's wing on one side, causing it to crash to the ground crookedly. It propped itself up with its limbs, but its robust lower limbs had claw-like feet that were unstable for walking. Its relatively weak upper limbs couldn't support its body, forcing it to move like a gorilla, with rear limbs for power and forearms for support, yet it still couldn't run fast.
"Biological construction, kid." Red Robin laughed, "When they created these monsters, they were probably just focused on being cool, right?"
Brainiac didn't answer. At this moment, Nightwing poked his head out and shouted, "Gunline!"
Red Robin crouched down, a sniper bullet flew past his head straight into the monster's neck, perfectly avoiding the chest plate and helmet, but tearing open half of its neck. Red Robin rushed up and fired another shot at its jaw.
"Bang!"
"Ding! Ding!"
The sound of equipment popping out was so beautiful. Red Robin didn't even have time to look carefully, grabbing two pieces of equipment and running back. Throwing the equipment into the hall, the group then continued to deal with the upcoming attack.
Fortunately, it was the beginning of the game, so their various resources were abundant. Although traps like animal traps couldn't be used since monsters didn't touch the ground, obstacles like chevaux-de-frise served as great cover. Additionally, the monsters' weapons and bullets were ordinary, unable to breach the walls of Wayne Manor. They held the fort and repelled the few remaining waves of attacks.
During the process, a total of five or six pieces of equipment popped out. But unfortunately, the game's realism was high; the equipment dropped from monsters matched their original molds, causing the sizes to be unsuited for the Human race. Only the helmet could be used; the chest plate, leg armor, and boots couldn't be worn.
"Oh!" Nightwing sighed, looking at the chest plate with the best attributes, "Even Batman probably couldn't wear this, Superman would have to train chest muscles for two months first."
Indeed, the chest plate was very large, especially the chest circumference. The Robins all had slender physiques, weren't heavily built, so none of them could wear it. However, considering the chest circumference, someone from their cosmos able to wear it without technology might only be Bane. There seems to be a large-built Batman from other universes who might be able to wear it too.
They dismantled the unfit equipment, yielding some decent materials. And after repelling the attack, the base gained experience. After the base upgraded, Brainiac provided some system blueprints, including bullet workstations, repair workstations, gun workstations, etc., eliminating the need to manually craft them.
However, these workstations needed to be purchased. They had just dropped some money from the monsters, but it wasn't much. Red Robin contemplated and said, "Let's first buy a bullet workstation; I'll figure out how to make the rest myself."
He looked towards the other side of Wayne Manor, then said, "There's a lathe in the laboratory over there, which can complete basic repair tasks. It might be slightly difficult to make guns, but I can first make some homemade explosives..."
Then they picked some gear they could use. There were two helmets and a hand armor piece that were good, and after wearing them, the panel attributes increased quite a bit. Just then, the tasks refreshed.
All the attacks started simultaneously. Meanwhile, at Viscount Manor, there was a different scene. Harley's little brain sparkled again, and upon learning the opponent was Batman, she rallied the others to create a big weapon ahead of time—a Molotov cocktail.
The method for making Molotov cocktails was far simpler than many imagined. It could be said as long as there were bottles and gasoline, the rest was merely straightforward mechanical labor.
Among them were some powerful superpower users, like Pamela with The Green's power and Blue Beetle Ted with holographic projection mimicry power. However, Harley's suggestion received unanimous approval.
Although superpowers were good, they should be saved for crucial moments. In gaming, no one uses their ultimate move right away. Playing this base management game means consuming minimal resources for maximum returns. As long as it's a carbon-based creature, none can fear the Molotov cocktail. No need for further discussion, they made them.
