Chapter: The Second Wave
Six Months After Voss
The first wave had proven one thing—Shawn's Crusade was not just a campaign; it was a phenomenon. Entire sectors were whispering of the Flamebringer, the towering Primarch-like commander whose will alone seemed to ignite resistance against the galaxy's nightmares.
From the bridge of the Ember Vow, Shawn studied the updated star map. Lines of Imperial-controlled systems had doubled since the Crusade began. The void around Terra and Mars was no longer a bleeding wound—it was a fortress. But to reach the scale needed for the final push, they needed more than ships.
They needed soldiers.
Liberated Worlds — New Blood
Each spear of the Crusade brought back not just victories, but warriors who had proven themselves in the fires of liberation.
From Forge Worlds — Knight Houses swore fealty to Shawn, their titanic war machines soon fitted with Armament Haki reinforcement, making them all but immune to small-arms fire and even some heavy weapons.
From Shrine Worlds — fanatical Ecclesiarchy warriors, zeal sharpened by basic Haki training, capable of resisting daemonic fear that would break ordinary men.
From Death Worlds — hardened militias, skilled in jungle and mountain warfare, their Observation Haki instincts honed to detect ambushes before they were sprung.
Shawn's personal training halls aboard the Ember Vow were never empty. Veterans from the Salamanders, Custodes, and Grey Knights rotated as instructors, each teaching their way of applying Haki in combat.
Valen's Project
While the Crusade expanded, Valen oversaw a new kind of unit—mixed formations of psykers and Haki users. These warriors could channel psychic powers while reinforcing their minds with Armament Haki, making them dangerous even to daemons who once feasted on mortal minds.
On Nystra, these hybrid units obliterated a Slaaneshi warband in less than an hour, cutting through both warp illusions and physical defenses with equal ease.
Vulkar's Triumph
Vulkar returned from the Drathis Cluster with an entire Cadian battle group who had fought off Tyranid vanguard swarms using nothing but grit and scavenged weapons. Shawn personally oversaw their awakening to Haki, turning them from survivors into a hammer force capable of repelling xenos boarding actions without loss.
Tahak's Siege Breakers
Tahak brought word of thirty Imperial Guard armored regiments from the fortress world Vortan, now armed with Leman Russ tanks whose crews had been taught to imbue shells with Armament Haki. The effect was devastating—ordnance that could punch through daemon-forged armor as though it were paper.
Basur's Shadow Blades
Basur returned with something different—a network of infiltration specialists from the penal world Erythos, hardened killers who had been spared execution in exchange for serving the Crusade. With Observation Haki, they became perfect assassins, slipping behind enemy lines to remove key targets before battle even began.
Three Years of War
The second wave was not fast. Each campaign took time. Worlds needed not only to be taken, but held, cleansed, and rebuilt.
By the end of the third year, Shawn's personal war council estimated the Crusade's total fighting strength at levels that would have made even the Great Crusade's early days proud:
Custodes — Full strength restored, all trained in Haki.
Grey Knights — One thousand, each now capable of combining psychic mastery with Armament and Observation Haki.
Astartes — Tens of thousands, drawn from wayward Chapters and trained to mastery of Haki.
Imperial Guard — Millions trained in basic Armament Haki, with elite formations at advanced levels.
Knights & Titans — Dozens of Houses aligned with the Crusade, each one enhanced through Haki-channeling technologies.
The Final Meeting Before the Push
In the great strategium of the Ember Vow, Shawn gathered his inner circle—Valen, Vulkar, Tahak, Basur, Valdor, and Eristan. The holo-map of the Segmentum Solar glowed above them.
"All sectors between here and Terra are either ours or burning," Shawn said, his deep voice carrying through the chamber. "The enemy knows we are coming. They've pulled back every daemon fleet, every traitor warband, every scrap of resistance into a single wall."
Valdor's eyes narrowed. "They will throw everything at us. It will be their last stand before Terra."
Shawn's gaze swept across them. "Then we break it. And when we do, there will be nothing left between us and the Emperor's throne."
Valen smiled faintly. "And the galaxy will finally see what happens when willpower becomes an empire."
