3rd POV — The Ember Vow, Inner Sanctum
The sanctum was dark, save for the faint silver-black glow of Shawn's Spirit Projection tracing intricate lines across the floor. Each line formed a circle, every circle an anchor, every anchor a boundary between the Warp outside and the training inside.
Valen stood in the center, stripped of his Inquisitorial regalia, wearing only a simple training suit. His eyes burned with suspicion and anticipation.
Shawn walked around him slowly. "This is not psyker training. You're not shaping the Warp. You're shaping yourself."
"I've spent decades strengthening my mind against daemons," Valen replied.
Shawn smirked. "Good. You'll need all of it."
He stopped in front of Valen, his hands flickering with liquid Haki. "Haki comes in three forms. Observation, to sense intent and presence. Armament, to harden body and spirit. And the third… Conqueror's Haki — the will to dominate the wills of others, bending them without touch. Only those born to rule can awaken it. You're an Inquisitor. You live to bend reality to your purpose. I'd be surprised if you didn't awaken it."
Shawn POV — The Ritual
I pressed my palm against Valen's chest. Liquid Haki flowed into him like molten steel into a mold. His spirit resisted at first — not from weakness, but from decades of conditioning to keep the Warp at bay. I pushed harder, sending my Haki into his core.
The air cracked. Valen's knees buckled. His mind's defenses slammed shut against me, thinking I was a daemon's whisper. I didn't relent.
"Stop holding back!" I barked.
He roared, psychic force lashing out in every direction. My Haki slammed against it, shaping it, forcing it to follow my rhythm. Slowly, his power stopped thrashing and began flowing.
His breathing slowed. His eyes widened. I felt it — the first flicker of Haki. Rough. Unrefined. But there.
3rd POV — The Teaching
They sat together afterwards, sweat steaming off their bodies in the cool air.
"Haki is will made manifest," Shawn explained. "It doesn't burn your mind like the Warp does. It's yours. Even a daemon can't corrupt it unless you let them. And if you master it… it can crush a daemon before it's even fully formed."
Valen's eyes narrowed. "That would make me… an executioner of psykers."
"Exactly," Shawn said. "And if you ever awaken Conqueror's Haki, you won't just be an executioner. You'll be a judge."
3rd POV — The Armour Forging
Eristan, the Magos, worked in a forge-lab deep in the Ember Vow's belly. Ancient STC schematics flickered in noospheric projections. Adamantine plates, silver-black filigree of Spirit Projection, and psychic amplifier nodes lay scattered across the workbenches.
"This is Warpbreaker Armour," Eristan said. "Psyker channels reinforced, neural pathways shielded, and here—" He tapped the gorget, "—a dampening field emitter. Activate it, and you could silence the Warp around you while keeping Haki at full strength."
Shawn traced Haki through the plates, etching flowing silver-black lines into the metal. The armour drank it in like water.
When Valen donned it, the plates settled perfectly. His psychic aura sharpened; his mind felt like a fortress.
Valen POV — The First Spark
The moment the armour locked into place, Valen felt… different. The Warp's whispers were muted, replaced by the steady hum of his own heartbeat.
Shawn stood in front of him. "Try."
Valen extended his hand. Haki — faint, but visible — wrapped around it. He sensed the world differently. Every movement, every heartbeat in the room pulsed in his awareness.
Then something else stirred. A pressure, raw and commanding, rippled from him. Vulkar, Tahak, and Basur stiffened.
"Conqueror's," Shawn said quietly. "I knew it."
3rd POV — The Warning
"This power will make you a beacon," Shawn told him later. "Daemons, rival psykers, even the gods of Chaos — they'll feel it. And they'll come for you."
Valen smirked. "Let them come."
Shawn grinned back. "Spoken like my right hand."
Closing Scene — The Next Flame
The Ember Vow's vox crackled. Coordinates came through — a hive world teetering on the brink of falling to a Tzeentch cult. The perfect test for Valen's new power.
Shawn turned to Vulkar, Tahak, Basur, and Valen. "Ready yourselves. The next fire we light will burn the Warp itself."
They moved as one. The crusade was far from over.
