Vera looked at her bare feet and smiled shyly, stepping back to put on her shoes.
"Grandpa, I'm heading down first!"
She called out to Henry Cooper in a hurry, immediately walking quickly out of the room and down the stairs, crossing the hall and heading straight out the front door.
Outside, the night was deep and dark.
She stopped and looked toward the entrance to the community.
Henry Cooper followed her out as well, seeing the excitement and urgency on the girl's face. He didn't say anything, just stood by her side, waiting with her.
He understood her feelings, which was why he came over to wake her up as soon as he received the call.
Not long after, a car drove into the community. As the car lights approached, Vera immediately stepped down the stairs. The car stopped slowly at the bottom of the steps, and Vera opened the car door, immediately seeing Grandma Wave sitting in the passenger seat.
"Grandma..."
