Vera woke up hungry early in the morning, opened her eyes but didn't see Kris Cooper. Puzzled, she got dressed, washed up, and went to the front yard restaurant where Mrs. Feng had already prepared breakfast.
Seeing the steaming breakfast on the table, she immediately grabbed a bun and took a big bite without hesitation.
"Hungry, huh? I'll get you some porridge," Mrs. Feng said, smiling at her appetite. "Pregnant women are always hungry. I remember when I was expecting my son, I would get up in the middle of the night, half-asleep, and open the fridge."
"Really?" Vera swallowed the bun in her mouth. "Did Kris leave?"
"He went out early, said he was going to buy something." Mrs. Feng brought the porridge bowl over and placed it in front of Vera. "It's a bit hot, eat slowly!"
