With great difficulty, Midgar managed to survive Adam's attack, which was filled with Dark Energy. Midgar expended a great deal of energy in the process and was seriously wounded, but Adam was in the same situation.
Midgar was physically far superior to him, as they were on different levels. Thus, every wound, every cut Adam received from Midgar, was a serious problem for Adam.
Now that Midgar understood Adam's strengths and weaknesses and had outmaneuvered his trump card, he finally had a real chance to win.

A stream of blood spurted upward as the wide blade plunged straight into Adam's shoulder.
His eyes widened in searing pain as Midgar pressed down harder on his poleaxe.
